Retro Gaming Thread

hagane is pretty good, its a shame the fat nerd syndrome happend to it, just over a year or so ago it was all over ebay, for 15 quid a pop which i think is fair its good, then out of nowhere bang 70 bang 200.

You know another thing sort of cheeses me off, how badly psx games have aged, with the exception of the ones that are in 2d i find them almost unplayable half the time, will you look back in 15 years time and play mgs or gran turismo again, probably not

Gunner’s Heaven is pretty good. Never managed to beat it because I get bored and start playing Gunstar Heroes.

One thing I’ve learned, if a game has a SNES and Genesis version, the SNES version is going to be the better one 99% of the time, but those 1% for the genesis are almost all significant games. Games like Out of This World which has less game lag, Strider that was so close to the arcade version on the gensis it’s insane. But then there’s whatever games like Power rangers movie game where the Genesis version literally just used the Ron Wasserman TV show tracks while the SNES had it’s own interpretation of the music similar to the Aladdin game.

I am annoyed that bomb as fuck Alien vs Predator beat’em up was never ported to any console ever.

I don’t know. Earthworm Jim was better on Genesis (music and sound effects were better plus a hidden sub-level), I kinda’ preferred Zombies Ate My Neighbors on Genesis because it lacked some of the annoying sound effects like that laugh at the end of every level. I had no problems with the controls and I used a 3 button controller and I liked that the radar was on the screen all the time. There’s other examples but I can’t think of any more.

And yeah, Capcom AVP not getting ported was a huge crime. I even had a 32X too and would have shit bricks if the port was completed.

*Out of This World is kind of an anomaly. The music (some of it being new to the game) and sound effects were way better on the SNES but like you said the Genesis had no lag. I swear I died so many times because of lag in the SNES version.

Gotta emulate that shit on MAME or get @rciado and his rich wife to buy you the arcade cab.

I would love for Battletoads arcade game to be ported. Looks so gud.

The only other arcade only game I wanted to be ported was Megaman:The Power Fighters. That and the second one are on the Anniversary Collection for last gen consoles. Speaking of which, both the Megaman 20th and the Megaman X 15th anniversary collections are full of win.

played mgs last week so uh…yes.

No wonder I didnt concern myself with the NES version

also… that game wtf

Jesus…

What’s a better game objectively?

Sonic+K or Mario world?

Not true. Plenty of games the Genesis counterparts were better.

Mortal Kombat 1
Samurai Shodown
Captain America and the Avengers
Aladdin
Batman & Robin
Robocop Vs the Terminator
Earthworm Jim
Joe & Mac Caveman Ninja
Cool Spot
WWF Wrestlemania Arcade
etc

Even obscure crap like Deadly moves managed to be better on Genesis.

Mario World. This coming from a Sega fan BTW.

Though i wasn’t crazy about Sonic & Knuckles. Its Sonic 1 and CD that i liked the most.

Another vote for Mario World from a Sega fan. S3K is good and great in places, but I still think it’s overrated by Sonic or Sega fans. Not even in my Genesis top 10 list. (it’s in my top 15)

I’m debating it…both have great OSTs, level designs, pushed their respective franchises further…hmmmmm

MK 1 was better on the Genesis solely because of the fatalities? Because the Genesis version looked and sounded like crap…

Mario, Zelda, Metroid, and the Square RPG games are the primary reason that the SNES is superior to the Genesis IMO…
Sonic games are great and all… But I swear, I pumped more hours into Chrono Trigger, FF3/6, Mario World, Mario RPG, and Super Metroid EACH than I did into my Genesis collectively.

Fatalities for one, absolutely. A censored MK is not a proper MK experience at all. GTFO here with that crap. And the 2nd reason is: Control. Genesis version controlled GREAT! While the SNES counterpart was laggy as hell. After pressing in a direction there was a good 1/21th of a second delay before responding. WTF sculptured software?

Yeah the graphics & music weren’t the greatest but were still decent enough. Mainly its for the reasons above why the Genesis version was the better port, and outsold the SNES version dramatically.

I hate RPG’s so… Comix Zone FTW!

~~ "While the SNES version’s visuals and audio were more accurate than the Genesis/Mega Drive version, it features changes to the gameplay and due to Nintendo’s “Family Friendly” policy, replaced the blood with sweat and most of the fatalities with less violent “finishing moves”. - Wikipedia.

Sega Genesis wins!
FLAWLESS VICTORY

Lol, I still have MK1 for the SNES. Cage’s and Kano’s fatalities are dry as hell. I do like Subz flip back-freeze-flip foward-uppacutz though. Nintendo was real quick to change their family friendly policies when they saw those Genesis MK1 numbers. Just in time for MK2.

Comix Zone rocked. You never see creative games like that anymore.
