Results of major Japanese tournaments across time?

EVERDRED: Great idea! I’ll do that for the Remy players in Coop 1 and 2, and Kyushu Taikai…

OK, in Coop Cup 1 there were only two Remy players in the top 12 teams: Ryo-chin and Remio. Here are their wins and losses in this portion of the tournament…

RYO-CHIN:

vs. team 5c - Lost to Remio

vs. team 3a - Did not play

vs. 1st place team - Lost to JOE

REMIO:

vs. team 9d - Defeated Choko (which gave his team the win)

vs. 2nd place team - Defeated Ryo-chin, lost to Hitotsume

As for the 2nd Coop Cup, Ryo-chin is the only Remy player to be seen, and his only match on the DVD is a loss to Hitotsume.

In Kyushu Taikai the only Remy player shown is Tsumun, in the team tournament. In the pool highlights he wins a match against Ocha’s Yun, but in the top 10 portion his only match is a loss to Kenji (Chun on the 1st place team).

Will do more complete stuff like this later…

-Josh

yeah i thought the other remy player (remio) played better when looking back on that vid, i think ppl overhype ryo-chin he was good at first but there are a handful of better remy players now in japan.

Dred: Y’know, you might be right. Ryo-chin has tried to qualify for SBO2 before and didn’t…

BillyKane: Of course I use DC, that’s where I get most of my stuff from! =) Would definitely appreciate it if you could send those videos…

Oh, and you’re probably right about Jima. The other red Dudley I was referring to is a different guy, they were both in Coop3.

OK, next up we have: The G-Up “Best 12” singles tournament.

Tournament: “Best 12” G-Up Cup

Style: Singles tournament

Date: November 25, 2001

Location: Game Newton

Turnout: 12 people (plus a bunch more in featured casual matches)

RESULTS:

  1. Ochibi (Yun)
    -Defeated Mester 2-1, K.O 2-1

  2. K.O (Yun)
-Defeated Mester 2-0, lost to Ochibi 2-1

  3. Mester (Yun)
    -Lost to Ochibi 2-1, K.O 2-0

4a. 2 ??? (Urien)
-Lost to Mester

4b. Rakira (Chun)
-Lost to K.O

4c. Aniki (Necro)
-Lost to Ochibi

7a. Raoh (Chun)
-Lost to Mester

7b. ??? (Urien)
-Lost to 2 ???

7c. AFM (Chun)
-Lost to Rakira

7d. J (Makoto)
-Lost to K.O

7e. Ice (Hugo)
-Lost to Ochibi

7f. SSL1 ??? (Alex)
-Lost to Aniki

NOTES & HIGHLIGHTS:

  • There were three single-elimination brackets, each containing 4 players. The winners of each bracket played each other in a round-robin finals.

  • Aniki is a pretty solid Necro, as you can see he was on one of the top 16 teams in Coop 3. Here he played quite a bit more defensively than the current top Necros…he used SA3 against Alex and SA1 against Yun.

  • Rakira vs. AFM = WORST MATCH EVER. OK, that’s exaggeration, but this was, like, 10x more boring than any other Japanese Chun mirror match I’ve seen.

  • None of the Uriens here seemed to compare with the best in Coop 1. The 2 ??? guy was pretty solid though, his match with Mester was kinda close.

  • The SSL1 dude also was pretty solid but not an elite Alex from what little I saw. He picked Hyper Bomb, used EX moves heavily in the first round (which he won), but stopped doing so in the next two (which he lost). Right before he died he tried whiffed DDT into Hyper Bomb, which didn’t even come close to working. =P

  • Ice is, or at least was, a very impressive SA1 Hugo. I have NEVER seen him outside of G-Up videos (this one and Shirube), though. shrug

  • Mester picked SA2 in both finals matches. Yes, you read that right. Not surprisingly, he lost both. I’ve searched long and hard for a reason, and about the only thing I can come up with is that maybe he didn’t want to win the tournament and be accused of corruption (he was the one who organized the whole thing). Then again, I’ve seen him play SA2 in Zenkoku as well, so who knows…

  • Ochibi and K.O were there usual selves here. Their match was very close, Ochibi won the last round by landing anti-air s.strong while in Genei Jin mode and comboing off of it.

  • And one more thing. In one of the casual matches, there was an SA1 Urien named Oni. Isn’t there someone on here named “japanese oni” who plays Urien…?

That’s all…

-Josh

OK, to continue with the G-Up theme, here is the Shirube tournament!

  3. Onanism (Urien)
    -Lost to K.O 2-1, Match 2-0

4a. Chikyuu (Necro, maybe Twelve too?)
-Lost to K.O

-Lost to Onanism

7a. Erotic Teacher (Dudley)
-Lost to K.O

7b. Ice (Hugo)

-Lost to Ice

9d. Mester (Yun)
-Lost to Match

9e. Riki (Q)
-Lost to Danna

9f. YSB (Hugo)
-Lost to Xiao

9g. Kanimajin (Alex)
-Lost to Chongu

9h. Tama (Oro)
-Lost to J

9i. Hitotsume (Ken)
-Lost to TK

9j. Ryo-chin (Remy)
-Lost to Nuki

9k. KSK (Alex)
-Lost to Onanism

NOTES & HIGHLIGHTS:

  • This was like the Best 12, except this time there were 23 players. Two of the brackets had 8 players, the third had 7; in the latter, K.O was given a first-round bye.

  • This video is a combination of pure awesomeness and pure suckitude. It’s awesome because you get to see top players of every character except Sean (duh) and Ryu (!), and there are loads upon loads of casual matches which are just as good as tournament stuff. The sucky part is that they skip over a LOT of the tournament; you never even get to know who wins between Chongu and Xiao, as seen in my results, and only one Chikyuu tourney match is shown (hence, why I don’t know if he used Twelve or not), for instance… Also, the videos that I downloaded are extremely choppy…is there a better quality version out there?

  • There are WAY too many good matches to make note of here, seriously. One funny one was when Chikyuu beat Ice in the tournament with SA2 (yes, not a typo) Necro. He actually landed it to win the match…he did a drill, then Ice parried it and tried to punish with SA3, but Necro landed and grabbed him out of the super with his own.

  • Oh yes, Riki used SA1 Ryu in a casual match, and SA3 Necro in another. Was pretty solid with both, lost with Necro but won with Ryu.

  • Ice (playing SA1 Hugo as usual) beat Boss in a casual match with the single most ghetto super setup I have ever seen. He knocked him down in the corner with c.forward, then did a whiffed c.forward (while Boss was still down) and supered immediately after the recovery (just as Boss had gotten up). This won him the second round, and basically led to him winning the third as well. See, he once again got Boss in the corner with full meter. This time, after the c.forward, he anticipated that Boss would jump out of the super and responded by smacking him down with s.fierce to win.

  • Quite a few surprises among the 9th placers, you’ll notice…like I said, Ice is really fucking good and I don’t know why he never seems to compete outside of G-Up.

  • Not really much else to say, go download this off DC or something! The choppiness is worth it…

'Tis all,
Josh.

Great to see a tournament with such varied character usage. Go TK!

By the way, where are you getting these vids from? I’d really like to see them.

Hitotsume vs TK was just the best Q match I’ve ever seen!

UltraDavid: I got just about all of my stuff from Direct Connect. Look for GoForBroke on the public hubs list…

I have just about all my 3s stuff (as well as all my other videos) burned onto CDs and deleted in order to save space. If you’ve got a specific request, I can send it to you over DC or AIM or something…

Hol Horse: W3rd. Check out Riki vs. YSB and Ryo-chin, too.

-Josh

Off topic: You’re a punk

For downloading all that stuff on dc++ and burn it all for yourself while tons of people are trying to squeeze into the few slots the ops have. Plain selfish, at least let it sit for a while. Leecher. Good to know you got all the files all tucked away while I can’t find anyone with the files except the ops.

EDIT: And I look at what you’re sharing, a bunch of roms. Good going.

Off topic: You’re a punk

Just curious, do you happen to be StrongBad on Goforbroke? I’ve heard that exact same whining from him before…

I’ll say it again, I WAS RUNNING OUT OF DISK SPACE. I HAVE OTHER SHIT ON MY COMPUTER THAT DOESN’T RELATE TO VIDEO GAMES. THAT’S WHY I HAD TO BURN STUFF.

And guess what, now that I’ve freed up enough space, I have 1st and 2nd Coop Cups, G-Up Best 12, Shirube, and various other matches back up. So you had no right to bitch in the first place (not that you do anyway).

Man, trolls like you make me NOT want to do all of this…

-Josh

This is the last time I’m posting on this thread…

Since I have nothing against what you’re doing here. It just annoys me that having seen the vids, you brag about having them all burned onto disks. It does boggle the mind why you would try to download ALL that stuff and then suddenly discover you have no space for it. I think any reasonable person would agree that you should share some of the stuff you download as a member of the hub community. As of today, before my post, all you had was a buncha roms that could have been burned to disks instead. I thought posting here would get you to act, and you know what, it worked. Now, I’ll leave you to your informative thread.

u asked about better quality G-Up vids i re-ripped all 3 g-ups a while back ago u can find them in the hub i post filenames soon

peace

Dr. Funk, thanks for the heads up, as you can see I’ve started to download them. =)

Now, back to the topic at hand…does anyone have full SBO results from last year?

Thanks,
Josh.

This thread is awsome. I’ve been wandering for the longest time who that Makoto was from the 2nd Coop Cup. Some of the hottest aggro I’ve ever seen… ever.

Thanks, and yes Chemuru was awesome. He was kinda unique in that he ONLY used SA1…

I’m saying “was” because he’s apparently disappeared into VF land along with Ohnuki and Yukino. He plays Wolf and was on the winning team in a recent 47-team 3on3 tournament; his partners were Hideo (another Wolf) and Chibita (the crazy Lion who won Evo last year).

-Josh

Added some more funny moments to the Kyushu Taikai 3on3 and Shirube writeups.

-Josh

Nice!

I’m also pretty sure Shirube was between April (Coop-1) and August 2002 since I remember Team Japan gave Team USA copies of the tape at Evo2K2. I don’t know the real date though.

You could try translating Zenkoku (3-on-3 national tourney from way back) if you’re really bored. I remember the winning team was Hikone (Ken), Deku (Yun), ??? (Makoto). Hikone’s Ken was a beast.

Actually, I’m going to do Zenkoku after I watch all of it. I’m trying to get the higher quality versions of both that and Shirube from Dr. Funk in the hub right now…could be awhile. =/

The cool thing is, the lower-quality Zenkoku rips actually give the names of all the players. I believe the Makoto on Hikone’s team was Shiroitachi, he was the one who beat all of Mester’s team right?

And a question, was this that “World Team Tournament” that you were referring to awhile back?

Thanks,
Josh.

yeah there as 3 G-up tourneys:

  1. 12-Best Pick Up (or something like that)
  2. Shirube
  3. Zenkoku

i re-ripped all of them just have to get a slot nd get them maybe able to help u guys out after a while

peace

The rip I have of Zenkoku is also quite bad so I can’t read all the names. I believe you’re right though, the Makoto was Shiroitachi. He even picked SA3 against a Yang in the finals.

I don’t remember mentioning of a 3s “World Team Tournament”, do you know which forum (or sub-forum) it was on so I can try to look back and clear it up? I probably meant something else, but sometimes I mess up without realizing it -I’m not a native speaker. Maybe I meant the SC2 World Tournament which took place in Cannes in February? I remember talking about it on one of the forums with Hol Horse.

btw, I haven’t forgotten about the Dudley vs Ryu vids on DC! I’ll send them to you whenever I can connect and get a decent speed, but I’ve been downloading other stuff non-stop for the past few days so I haven’t been on at all recently.

OMG, I haven’t seen that matchup…that’s even funnier than SA2 Mester and that one SA1 Urien.

What I meant was that the lower-quality videos have all the players involved in the filenames. Quite handy, methinks. =)

**

I think it was this forum, actually. Death By Aegis was talking about Hikone and how he won this 200-team “World Team Tournament” or something. I asked for more details about it and you said I could find videos of it. Zenkoku being the only team tourney won by Hikone that I’ve seen, I was wondering if that was it…

And BTW, your foreign language tech is SERIOUS. =P Honestly, if you didn’t say so in your profile, I would never guess you’re from a foreign country.

**

Hehe, don’t worry about it man, I know where you’re coming from. Hell, I need to reply to that last PM you sent me awhile ago, got a couple things to say…
