You forgot the joy of coming out of a cutscene and getting hit/killed before you can even react.
This game… honestly, if I wasn’t a Resident Evil fan, I would have stopped playing before even finishing Leon’s campaign. The controls feel clunky, and definitely not as responsive as RE4 and RE5. Those weren’t the smoothest games on the market, but compared to RE6, they were silk. I’m pretty confident, if this was not an RE game, but instead, some 3rd party release under a different name, most of the people supporting/defending this game would be calling it a piece of shit.
Only thing scary about this game is the realization that Capcom thought this was a legit product. Seems like they really has lost their vision, and no longer believe in quality.

ummm this game was actually pretty fun so mission accomplished for Capcom.
Obviously not for a lot of people who all seem to have pretty legit complaints that weren’t present in past REs.
I actually agree with the fact that if this was not an RE game, everyone would be shitting on it. The only reason it is getting protected is due to fanboyism which is actually normal.
I think the only reason people were disappointed with the game is the lack of dramatically villains
Once they killed Wesker, you couldn’t really go bigger than that with villians.
Seriously you guys have got to stop saying weskers dead, I’m willing to bet my shoryuken account that he’s still alive
jake vs wesker next time on resident evil 7 :).
I guess we can all agree trying to appeal to everyone ultimately hurts the creative vision of a game. Fans seem to be totally split on this game aka you either love it or hate it. Props to the peeps enjoying the game though and I hope you do have fun. Man if Shenmue 3 came out and got 0 out of 10 I’d still play it so who am I to judge? RE6 continues the cannon an d the game did get good scores from a few sites so I can’t fault people playing it. I also can’t fault people let down by the game but one must understand both sides are valid. I’m sure we will see similar conversations in the DmC thread once it drops and you best believe I got my popcorn ready.
As much as I like to think DmC would have this kind of discussion…I don’t think it will considering everyone pretty much wrote that game off. Hell, I think if given the opportunity people would actually spit in Tam’s face for what he did with the franchise.
I’m just going to bitch out loud for a moment. I think a lot of people know they hate this game but the problem is they aren’t articulating their grievances properly and all that comes out is “THIS GAME IS ASS!!!” some people have got defensive as a knee-jerk defence. It all comes down to one thing: Resident Evil was never that good. In terms of story and gameplay RE is generally laughable. People have always had problems, whether it’s with the controls or overly cryptic puzzles all the way down to the terrible voice acting and ham-fisted writing. Despite those faults it did deliver a solid horror experience and made you feel isolated and vulnerable in a hostile environment. The puzzles, inventory management and ammo restrictions as well as the challenging enemies are what made RE such a huge hit. RE4 was the exception to that rule but it have the benefit of being an innovator in other departments, it was fresh and exciting at the time.
RE6 is what you get when you strip the atmosphere, environment and horror from the original games and don’t innovate in the same way RE4 did. When you leave the story and action to stand on it’s on feet, it makes you realise just how retarded the whole franchise is. After playing through the game I’m amazed at how rarely people mention how idiotic the story and writing is, it reads like fan-fiction even by RE standards.
But do you really have to innovate with every game though?
See that is what I originally thought but now I am not so sure. The reception on all major gaming websites seem to be favourable towards the reboot. Not the hardcore fans of course but new players who have never touched a DMC game before. There are other long time fans who seem to be warming up to the game. Even the most recent DmC videos don’t go fully red anymore lol. If you look at the sales of every DMC game they are good but nothing compared to the heavy hitters of today. Part of that is because the original DMC games were on PS2. GC and XBOX were left out and from what I know the PC ports were terrible up till 4 anyway. DmC is a mediocre game to me but it actually has a shot as disturbing as that sounds.
There are people who couldn’t care less about the finesse of the combat in the old DMC franchise, they want narrative more than anything. Gaming has transformed and there are people who literally feel that a game can focus more on narrative at the expense of gameplay and be fine with it. Asura’s wrath was widely accepted by fans, regardless of the true ending dlc. People like us who post on these forums are the minority, there are peeps who literally do no research on a game and pick it up for the logo. Capcom apparently broke records for initial RE6 copies shipped, this is even after fan outrage of the demos released. I mean who do we blame? Tammy boy for accepting the project? Keiji Inafune for influencing this decision? Or Capcom as a whole? They all played a part in this but clearly they felt Kobayashi wasn’t going anywhere with DMC4. Capcom recently announced they were done with foreign developers and new IP’s. Yet Remember Me is coming out next year, guess we will see but I think DmC will do better than Dark Void and Bionic Commando. Disclaimer: Not picking up DmC but I’m over it and I have no issue with people playing the game and enjoying it. Platinum games got my back with MGS:Rising
It’s MGR, not MGS. I normally wouldn’t be a stickler on this but in this case I think it’s important[/details]
[details=Spoiler]
Man I thought I’d never make that mistake, man my brain is asleep tonight lol.
Whats the deal with the merc maps? Did they say when the others were going to be released? I got catacombs bc of the preorder. Maybe we’ll hear something in the next couple of weeks
I’m not saying they have to be original and shatter the mould with each new release but if they wanted to eject the survival horror elements and focus on action and story then they executed it the worst way possible, from a storytelling perspective the game is a complete joke and as an action game it can’t even compete with the gameplay laid down by RE4. It’s a clunky co-op shooter and the few changes they did make were either pointless or annoying.
This is a love/hate game. I personally love certain parts of it, such as mercs, the combat, the intersection points, and agent hunt mode. I also love the fact that health and ammo actually need to be rationed (I started playing on pro though, so normal might be really easy), which makes it really survival based compared to other games. My brother actually decided to play Chris’ campaign with me, and we had to share and swap around ammo a lot. It ended up being that I started carrying around a lot of the close quarter weapons/ artillery ammo for guns like the shotgun and grenade launcher, while he was on sniping duty.
The enemies are actually something I surprisingly like. There’s a lot of transformations and they are really aggressive. People say you can just run up and melee through the game, but some of them can prevent themselves from melee stagger and you can get surrounded easily trying to run in gung ho. Though there are some pretty neat things you can do right back to them, such as an easy way of dealing with nagpas is to wait on a counter to their charge, which means if you are playing a MAN MODE character they will knee bash the fuck out of them breaking the shell.
On the flipside, there’s shit in this game that shouldn’t have passed testing, and some ideas shouldn’t have left the drawing board. The cutscenes interrupting you but giving your enemy free reign to run around is huge, especially since it can cause death easily. Some of the spontaneous sequences that you run into the first time, you probably would die the first time since you have no clue of what’s going on (one example is Chris chapter 2 where you crawl up a bridge and dodge objects. Suddenly changing your control and camera while putting you in a instant death scenario is BS). Jake’s chapter 2 deserves a mention as being total BS and I will save people some grief and spoil them by saying, fuck killing anything, just run and get the damn chapter over with. You can’t see shit in the blizzard and there’s a shitload of enemies.
I’m gonna hold off on saying that the campaign totally pissed me off though (I genuinely had fun for a good amount of it, aside from some really badly designed sequences) , because I still need to see how Ada’s holds up and the end of Leon’s campaign.
Mercs is great and Captain Morgan Leon is my favorite atm. Also in multiplayer if you both time bonus, it does not stack and the time bonus only effects the character that has it equipped. I had my brother run around picking up the time bonus, while I worked on starting combos and padding the time. I took limit breaker so that once we broke a 50 combo, we got more points.
I will admit that even though the mass amount of zombies add a nice feeling of difficulty to the game, I also find it rather outlandish. I comprehend that everything is the city has gone to hell, but the gameplay appears rather stressful. In my opinion, the sense of horror in this game comes from just that, which is the consistent onslaughts of the undead as you must stay on your toes and conserve your items wisely while combating enemies in a dark and eerie atmosphere.
What I want to know from the people who disliked the game is what they expected from it. It appears that the majority of consumers find it terrible, but that’s about it. What did they want from it?
A side note: RE4 and 5 weren’t that bad, but now thinking about it, I can see why people had some problems with it. Take the villagers for example from both games; realistically one or two gun shots to the head would have killed them, even a couple more to the chest. When you think about it, the virus couldn’t have made them that physically resistant, even the chainsaw wielders. Even setting them ablaze will barely inflict harm and you still have to proceed to waste with whatever you have at your disposal. I know realistic elements would take the fun out of it, but you have to agree that the chainsaw enemies were ridiculously aggravating.
Ashley’s character just seems random now that I look back, and I can’t believe in the ending she had asked Leon if they wanted to go back to her place for “some overtime”. For one, that was out of nowhere, and secondly, in the looks department, she could barely hold a candle to Ada, not even a match. Plus, she’s rather irritating, and would be the last person Leon would bang, especially seeing Ada left him with emotional blue balls minutes before Leon and Ashley escaped.
Sheva and Josh, however, were beasts.
