Replacing Hori Fighting Stick 3 PCB for PC use?

Ok great! I’ve successfully removed the buttons! and i only broke one clip on one button. So now the Joystick, it has wires running from the Joystick into the PCB and then they are soldered on the other side. I was thinking that i would just clip the wires only loosing a few mm in wire length. At first i thought that the wires were already too short and i should avoid cutting them at all, but it seems that the only place for the new PCB is right next to the joystick anyways. Im just wondering how other people got the joystick out of the PCB and if cutting the wires is ok. Pics up when my battery is done carging, thanks everyone so for for helping me out.

I guess the next step is soldering the new PCB on. Ill check the essential theead for some info on that task.

yes you can cut all the wires you want… as long as you keep the wires on the microswitches, just cut the side thats wires to the pcb…

as for the smaller pcb on top linked to the start and select and all that jazz…you can just desolder those…and use other wires… if you notice on the pcb… it wud be in this order… Ground, Start, then select, so you dont have to worry about soldering the rest of the buttons if you;re not gonna use it… so just solder those 3 with different wires back on…and then those wires onto your pad pcb you’re using… if you got further questions… just ask

kool, thanks so much. I’ll get to it as soon as i get home. I’m gonna need some clarifation on some small stuff during the process, so don’t abandon me just yet! :lovin:

welcome to shoryuken

lol thanks. I just ran into a problem. Seeing as many of the wires coming out of the stick were too shory, i stripped some old phone wire and was soldering it on as extentions but in the process, some of the original wires coming out of the stick came off. (Warning, very crappy pictures)

How it looks connected:

can i remove them like this:

and buy new ones with wires already attached?

its no problem…you dont have to buy anything new… just desolder all those wires… and go buy some new wires and solder those on… that way it will be longer… and quick disconnectors for the microswitches on te joystick is a pain…but findable… i just soldered them. made my job easier

I auctually tried to solder the wire back on as soon as it came off and i just made a nice hole in the microswitch with the soldering iron, but ill try again, it didnt get too badly mangled. can you reccomend some good wire to use? I cut open an apple USB cord but the wires are really thin, I think they would work well, if im able to strip them though. I was using a telephone cord and the shielding on the body (i only stripped the tips) was thick and rigid and probably caused the connections to come off of the microswitches. Anyway, some good wire, i wouldnt mind going to the home depot or radio shack and getting some wire for a few bucks, or cutting something open. Suggestions?

Edit: i just removed all of the wires and i see taht the microswitches auctaully have holes in them and its just filled with solder, so thats what happened before heh.
