Well shucks, that’s all you had to say!
Ah, but remember, he don’t take handouts.
This coming from you makes this the most ironic post of the day.
This
I liked it when there was a cheat code to unlock characters, and it was hinted or hidden somewhere in the game for you to find and figure out. You would then input the code, something strange or unusual happened, and then you got access to all this cool stuff that wasn’t there before.
My fondest memories of Tekken 3 was unlocking everything (play Jin and Xiayou 50 times each for their alts, anyone?). The absolute best was when your younger brother deleted your memory card to make space for more Gran Turismo saves at least once a month. Fun times.
Finding Guile in Alpha 3 was a nice surprise though.
What I find absolutely retarded in SSFIV is how if you play an extended session on a fresh install, you have to spend 10 minutes closing pointless “New Taunt/Colour unlocked for XXXX!” dialogs.
haha that is ridiculously stupid, isn’t it? If anything, they could just say, “You’ve unlocked new content,” even though you won’t know exactly what it is til you find it.
Unlocking stuff makes games way more interesting and addictive. Some ppl nowadays may feel like its just annoying and not necessary. But some of my fondest memories as a fighting gamer was the experience of unlocking secrets and codes.
The mystery of Reptile in Mortal Kombat was wild and made us play the game just to figure it out.
When Super Turbo came out, doing the Akuma code on some unsuspecting person was a great feeling. With everybody behind you like, “Who the F**K is that?!?!”
…when X-Men Children of the Atom came out, same thing.
When Marvel vs Capcom 2 came out, we made it our business to grind those extra characters out as a community at my Arcade.
When Tekken 4 came out, everybody was like where’s Jin? And then one day you come to Arcade and see Jin hooded up! Epic
Of course things are way different now, but I wish developers would do more unlockables & secret characters/events but in a different way to accommodate the tournament scene. Its just hard to keep secrets in videogames nowadays and ppl are more impatient than ever due to our new found technological advancements.
Real talk, I paid to download Mu in BBCS1, rather than playing through the story to unlock her.
I figured those hours of my sparse free time are worth 5 bucks.
I believe I’ve heard other notable players say the exact same thing as well.
The biggest problem that I have with DLC in fighters is just when they make you pay for shit that could help you get better at the game. The biggest offender with this, being actual characters. I feel like I shouldn’t have to pay money just to learn the ins and outs of the entire cast.
I remember just getting into Blazblue, and I hadn’t really kept up with the news surrounding it. So when all of a sudden I hopped online and start getting bodied by Platinum’s fucking heart car, it was infuriating. There was no way I could really practice against the character until I paid seven fucking dollars for her.
I thought this thread was dead.
ill never forget seeing the different chars unlocked in marvel, so fun. Unlocking stuff in fg’'s is honored and welcomed tradition. I guess just give people the options to buy ‘unlocks’ to please both sides.
Thats a perfect example of why i hate dlc
No it’s not, at least when it comes to the important things like CHARACTERS. You’ll hear a lot more rage from people having to unlock shit than those who love it.
Leave the unlocks to the purely aesthetic things.
Sorry man i disagree
That’s fair, but don’t say it’s a time honored and welcomed tradition when it clearly isn’t.
It’s fine if you want unlocks though, I’m not gonna hate on you for that at least. Respect for voicing your opinion.
Yea because it’s so fun having to play a mode of the game I don’t care for and fulfill some condition to get a character or stage.
Maybe they make you play through the game to unlock characters less often because people organize tournaments these days? Ever thought of that? If you play a game with requirements for unlocked characters, you have to unlock every single one because you don’t know who will come and you don’t know who they use. Making it so that everyone is available from the start takes a huge load off of the tourney holder’s shoulders.
