Unlocking characters has always sucked and always will suck. The worst offender being timed unlocks that force you to play for hours or just leave the console going.
Hated unlocking characters in Smash Bros., hated unlocking characters in Street Fighter 4, unlocking characters needs to die.
I think you misunderstand. I didn’t feel like upgrading my console with some magic cartridge that I have to hunt down all over town and then some because the normal consumer doesn’t need that thing for Madden. Does the Saturn LOOK like a PC? Is that Windows I see when I push the power button? Are me and my very best friends gonna LAN some Warcraft II on it? Fuck no. Put that shit in the console to begin with, since it’s, shocker, a fucking console. Hated that cart, hated the RAM cart for the N64, hated GBC-only Game Boy carts, hate anything devs do to make console games incompatible with the consoles they’re designed for. “Sorry, your Saturn game doesn’t work with your Saturn, your Game Boy game doesn’t work on your Game Boy, and your N64 game doesn’t work on your N64.” Faaaaack that.
Not me , we did not own consoles that was for pussy’s whos mom would not let them go to the arcades, everything was already unlocked before consoles so that trumps the remember my consoles day bullshit daydreams of enchanted days alone in your bedroom unlocking shit like it was og
plus Sf and mk did not come to the sega or snes tell years after both had been out for A LONG ASS TIME in arcades… i blame you weird kids not allowed to play out side for unlocks ruining my future games for years…Can you feel my rage…lol luckly most moved away from that shit these days
Yeah for fighting games, unlocking characters for competitive play is unnecessary and outdated as fuck. Hidden bosses to fight against are fine (e.g. shin gouken, etc. since they were made to be broken and a challenge to beat), but the trend of locking characters that are meant to be balanced for tournaments needs to be put to rest. It’s just an annoying waste of time.
And God forbid you ever lose your save of that shit. Remember that shit? Omg wtfgfgsdgfdbvcg:annoy:
99.9% are lazy and bitching at having to do actual work. Sad the human race is these days. Just want everything handed to them with no work.
And not everyone cares about tournaments. Thats all your arguments keep going back to. Get over yourself! Most people do other things with their lives then trying to go to tournaments like raising families or working for a living or having a GIRLFRIEND.
Unlocking was great. How are you gonna complain when games have timed unlocks? Its called keep you playing instead of being the ADHD generation that you are now playing a game for 1 month then crapping all over it and leaving it for the next thing. You all sound like children. No commitment skills whatsoever. Unlocking things actually cause you to become better as a player and growing as a person, doing things you might not otherwise do, like actually playing with characters you otherwise wouldn’t.
Kids these days are pansies and don’t appreciate the satisfaction of HARD WORK and EARNING things in life.
I liked unlocks I feel even as an adult with SF4 it brings that hunger out in you. When SF4 first dropped I was horrible with Chun I couldnt beat the game with her for shit but I HAD to unlock Seth i mean hes a whole character I got to unlock him right. So I spent hours and hours playing and even if I necessarily didnt get better/ competetive with her or it wasnt against a human it was time in game it drove me to spend that time in game. As we all know now that time in game warrants more time in game etc etc. But just imagine for a minute a world where new players or kids as we were didnt have that drive on their own didnt get that pulled out of them didnt get to experience that pain of loosing against a boss for 4 hours straight and finally experiencing that click. Or knowing what its like to better your self outside of going to a meetup or whatever which is a whole seperate huge ass step in and of itself. Theres a certain magic in character unlocks that we all experienced and regardless of whether you remember it or not or whether it had the same impact on you as it had on someone else it happened. As far as TO’s and all that go we have shit like cloud saves and transferrable saves via usb so multiple unlocks should be lees of an issue today. If it were put to a vote thered be no talking me out of character unlocks.
Funnily enough, I know of older tournament veterans in their 30s who, when given the option to either unlock or just pay for a character (when given the option to) just forked out the $$$ and basically said “fuck having to play singleplayer content to unlock something purely for multiplay/versus play.”
On the same note, I know of more than a few players who not only have girlfriends, but have actual families and/or are also running successful businesses. If anyone needs to get over themselves, it’s you.
Someone told me that they had to spend 3 hours just flicking the coin switch on an MvC2 cab just to unlock everyone for a tournament.
Remember how I mentioned that 2/3s of my KOF isn’t unlocked by default, we had a small local tournament this week and I go to the to pick my team for my first match and there were no characters unlocked on that PS3.
In other news, I won a small local tournament with one character and two placeholders
Its not three hours ,but I’ve done this multiple times at UP and I think partially at The Break once, (switching out people when your fingers got tired)
I used to love it when I was younger, and wouldn’t mind getting costumes or stages rather than paying for them nowadays. Would I do it now to unlock normal characters? If it was like Skullgirls where you couldn’t play story with Valentine until you beat it with the others, then not with Double til you beat it with Valentine, that’s ok I suppose. But they weren’t locked for regular play
