What I’m talking about has nothing to do with DLC. Technically speaking, us uploading any videos of the the game at all is on iffy legal grounds. If Capcom for some reason or other wants to take down my combo video made of my unhacked, vanilla SFxT game, they do have the rights to do that.

Using methods like repitching the audio, reversing the image, etc. to “protect” the video from being taken down is not a form of legal protection, it’s a method of avoiding detection by the automated system. Again, don’t assume that just because you’re getting away with it makes it legal.

Awesome, so you agree that if you upload videos you cross a noticeable and enforceable line. That was the only point in my very brief comment.

The images are copyright Capcom. Anything they let us do with them is by their grace and kindness. If you do not like this world’s reality, that sounds like something you should take up with the courts and/or YouTube, who will generally shut your video down upon request so fast it’ll make your clueless head spin. Been there, done that, bought the t-shirt (for both sides of that equation).

If you do not believe that this is the case, then you have the option of you yourself putting up content and then challenging the takedown request. Put your money where your mouth is. Report back on how that goes.

Yeah, probably not. Probably I have not been highly involved with music and copyright law in the past decade I’ve worked professionally on tools to rip music and video. I’m sure your unfounded opinions better my own direct conversations with lawyers upon the subject. :tup:

You don’t have the rights to make a profit off of it but yes you do own the content within the disc because it is a matter of physical property (you physically own the digital property if that makes sense). With computer programs you sign a user agreement (generally) that limits your use of your property. However, the last time I checked, upon entering the disc into your console you aren’t asked to accept any terms. As a matter of fact this also is why having a modded console is legal as well. The issue has been discussed with sony and geohot. Geohot got fined because he distributed console hacks that essentially broke the system. Last time I checked these guys aren’t distributing keys for the disc locked content. What they are doing is legal, end of story. Bringing characters onto xbl or psn is a different issue because you have an agreement with xbl and psn to use content properly (as intended).
