just play online for fun. its easy to drive yourself nuts if you take it too seriously. cheers.

also just find people on here to play if you want consistency instead of just playing randoms.

I just see online as recreation. Offline’s where it’s at.

It’s not even the scrubs though, or being overmatched, that’ll happen anytime you decide to pick up a stick, online or off, but when you can’t be sure if your moves will come out when you want them, its hard to take the match seriously.

Yep, that’s really it… especially when you consistently rely on 1f links. I like playing with random chars online though, it helps me enjoy it more.

If you really want to get better, you have to take matches seriously. Just don’t let losses affect you (easier said than done).

Also, I really disagree with the ā€œjust play for funā€ advice. That’s a great motto in theory, but in reality it’s not fun to lose. You can have plenty of fun even if you play dead serious every game. But you have to have the right attitude. Don’t make excuses for your losses saying crap like you weren’t trying, or that you’re just practicing, or some other BS about not being serious. I made that mistake for a long time and it holds you back a lot. When you lose, just take a breath and tell yourself you were outplayed. Then move on and keep getting better.

Why does this discussion have to get so aggressive? Let’s take the heat down a notch

BTW Jawang, I’m still waiting on a few of your matches. You make a lot of good points but slow people (like me) need to see to learn.
Thanks.

IT’s not bullshit about not being serious, despite popular belief some people only really do play for fun. That is their sole purpose. I like to get better but I’m not even going to touch the amount of time needed to really get into it and to me thats ok. I can still go out and have a good time IRL with friends playing games not not worry about it. Not everyone is trying to a get a sponsor or blow up, which also blows my mind, but that’s a whole nother can of worms. Cheers’

i honestly take it as it is…a pale comparison to the real deal. there’s a thread on the boards asking about if online skill equates to offline skill, and i say it doesn’t. there will always be factors that you cannot account for, like lag spikes and your roommate downloading porno, and those are things you can never 100% control. they’re not the same as the variables during a real match, like audience noise or an obnoxious opponent who is 1 inch from your face.

with that being said, it’s hard to take a match seriously when i probably win matches due to lag as much as i lose to it. it doesn’t happen all the time, but in it’s inconsistency, there’s still the consistency of it inevitably happening. because i know this, i can admit that there were wins i didn’t deserve, and losses i didn’t deserve. for that matter, online can’t be taken too seriously as an accurate barometer of skill.

true, it can give you an intermediate lesson on how to play a match-up, but even then, your perspective will be skewed, because people play differently online than they do offline. i don’t think any respectable ken player would follow up a whiffed jab dp with an ex one…but you know what, online, it actually gets folks…A LOT. by the same token, i rarely go for the tricky/technical stuff online because i know it’s hit or miss. despite my execution being better than average, there will still be moments where inopportune lag plays a role and i miss a link. i know, i know, if you’re good, you’ll hit the link more often than not, but even the best players can’t hit links underwater.

No PSN only XBOX LIVE.

Right the Sakura AE video matchup thread is up and running.

There isn’t too many Sakura AE videos from what I can see, they’re probably hidden in those like 50 minute long videos from Acho or SMAOI. I added in some for tonight and will add some more tomorrow.

You could probably find a few more digging through the other video thread if you haven’t already.

So I told myself right after getting Bison to A+, I would aim for A+ Sakura. Got her to A in like, six days.
Finally got her up there yesterday morning. Just in time for it to not matter at all!

Friends. I have acquired a 360 to play on now. Add my GT = BASED Wanton. Want to play some of the 360 sakura users.

D:
Very nice, what do you mean it doesn’t matter at all? I’m sure you will be up on the leaderboard pretty high for that so its still a nice achievement.

Who cares about the leaderboard or rank, the only thing that matters is how much you learned from playing those matches.

It doesn’t matter because I’ll be back at zero for AE lol.

after playing a bit the last 2 days i can say online really is trash and as bad as i remember it… donno why they even bother to rank people on it because it’s nothing like real SF. (not that sf4 is like real sf) cheers!

Today was actually a good day for me. I was hitting my links online more often than not. I also love when someone tries to throw a meaty fireball when I have meter.

However, I’m having problems against T. Hawk. His Condor Dive shenanigans really messed with me. It has a height restriction, doesn’t it? Is the bar just set really low?

edit: AE question for anyone who played it: does the cr. HP tech throw option select work against Yun and Yang’s dive kicks?

I got 4th place at a tournament today, and man am I rusty. At least I lost to the guy who took 1st place.

So a small part of me wants to get back into SF4, whenever I think about Sakura my heart skips a beat, and it makes me miss my scrub combo of j.HK > c.HP > EX Tatsu > Shinku Tengyo Hadoken.

With the hype of Marvel dying down, I find myself playing SF a lot more now because of the BS range Dante has in Marvel…
My style of play has changed quite a bit, as I’m thinking a lot more and actually reading my opponent… but I’m still a reaction/defensive for tte most part because I still get rushed down.
