Real Urien Unblockables/combos

a lil. question. When I do the midscreen against Chun Li (c.Fierce, short/forward tackle xx Fierce aegis, RH tackle, RH kneedrop) sometimes the RH kneedrop doesn’t cross over.
I couldn’t test it much, I suppose it’s a timing issue but I’d like to know for sure, since it’s bad when it happens in a close match.
Or perhaps I should just master the dash headbutt, but since I’m still not consistent with it I still go for the kneedrop

Other questions:
about forward tackle * 2: the uneasy part for me is getting the first tackle to hit early enough, if I manage to do that, the second tackle and the headbutt succeed almost always. Is there a “trick” to make the timing of the 1st tackle easier, or it’s just a lot of practice?
Also, on Chun in the corner: c. Fierce, short tackle, strong sphere, forward tackle, short tackle xx Aegis (and unblockable).
I find this to be quite hard, not impossible of course but I can’t execute it consistently. Should I really force myself to master it (is it really worth the effort in your opinion), or stick to the way easier short tackle, jab sphere, short tackle?

thanks

It’s a timing issue. Dash headbutt won’t help you.

On which character are you trying the 2 fk tackles? If it is on Chun Li, stick to c. Fierce, short tackle, jab (or strong) sphere…

ok but… where’s is my mistiming? what am I doing too early/too late? that was my question, lol

One or both of your 2 tackles are done too early (short or roundhouse). For instance, if you do the first tackle too early, chun li will hit the aegis a bit too high and the next tackle could pop her up a bit too high again. It is more likely to happen if you parry a jump in attack.

Actually:

It DOES involve your timing. However, not in the way you guys are originally thinking of. If timed wrong, the aegis will hit chun one extra time, pushing chun further.

Also, try rh tackle instead of forward for the 2nd tackle in your chun corner combo. It gives more time to charge/do the 2nd short tackle. The hard part is getting the strong sphere. You can only get it if you hit chun in the back kinda, with the 1st short tackle. BASICALLY, the earliest you can.

thanks.
Now I have to get better with dash-headbutt.
I can do with a good success rate when facing right, but somehow I suck doing it when facing left

Emphy, any tips on the timing of the 2nd charge on the c. FP, RH charge xx FP reflector, RH charge UNDER Remy/Dudley/whomever? I don’t have any videos of this so I haven’t been able to figure out the time on it. I was able to get the partition headbutt over my friend today playing dudley, but he gets up a little after the first dash back to the reflector, and as a result, isn’t eating it unless he decides to block :xeye:

Any vids or timing comments on if the second charge is earlier, or later than the usual setup would be appreciated.

is there a way to visually understand if I hit with the short tackle early enough so I can decide which sphere to use depending on it?

if you know you can build up a meter from a jab sphere combo, just do that.

it should FEEL pretty obvious if you hit with your short tackle early enough or not once you try the strong sphere combo a few times.

k thanks, I’ll work on that
(not going to try it in tournament/serious matches until I get to grasp it perfectly though)

I still suck doing dash headbutt when facing left.
Whatever

After seeing the last Gamer’s Vision Tournament though, I wonder if I even should bother learning all those unblockables setups lol, they escaped the midscreens most of the time, and out of 3 Urien players no one did ever try to do the corner unblockable even when they could clearyl set it up, I guess high level japanese players can escape corner unblockables with 100% success rate nowadays  :wow:

EDIT: nevermind, I watched the footage again and RX did the corner unblockable against Senaka once. I’m relieved that it’s not still useless

Hmmm

Well, first off, that first rh tackle isn’t realiable. It’s possible, but needs strict timing. Stick with lk or mk tackle.

Second, I mentioned in the very first post my own personal timing method. Basically, you start charging a little after the “gis” in “aegis reflector!”. Also, make sure you tackle under, meaning if you think tackling immediately after dashing will hit, don’t. Partition is lenient enough to wait a LITTLE while. Otherwise, the tackle hits with aegis, which ruins your unblockable.

(cornered opponent)
Jump HP, c.HP (1st hit) xx HK tackle(1) xx LP Aegis, MK/HK tackle(2), c.HP (1st hit) xx HK tackle(3) xx LP Aegis, MK/HK tackle(4), c.HP, MK tackle(5), EX tackle(6), MK/HK tackle(7)

25 hits, big damage (though there’s better meter usage with unblockables of course).

:razzy: :razzy: :razzy: :razzy:

Thanks Emphy,

Error on my part for the RK tackle error – I’m using MK – woops. I think the timing error on my part is slightly due to the dreamcast that I practice on, and a conception error put in by the wording of tackle under the opponent. With you saying you start CHARGING after “gis”, I take it that what I was originally trying was not possible, which was:

c. FP, MK tackle xx FP reflector, RK tackle UNDER the player on their way to the reflector, player hits reflector, lands on ground, dash towards, f. MK.

If you start charging at the time given, doing the above doesn’t seem possible, which leads me to think you’re suppose to go under the player after they hit the reflector? I dunno. I’m reaching here since I haven’t seen it. :xeye:

You’re missing dash after fp reflector? Maybe that’s it?

This unblockable setup requires partition, hence why you asked when you should start charging, right?

Yeah, that’s it.

I got to see it upon further review on one of the videos with RX in it. I haven’t been able to get it off yet, due to the fact I’m fairly comfortable with partitioning DOWN, and not back/down. Guess that’s next on my plate to practice with.

Much thanks!

What’s a good corner combo for…Ken? Let’s say crouching fp, lp tackle, into aegis…what’s next? (he bounces off the aegis towards urien btw)

The ‘standard’ corner unblockable uses fp, lk/mk tackle xx lp aegis, walk or dash back, rk tackle to push him back into range of the reflector, and then mk kneedrop to cross him up and break guard. Another FP should follow it up where you can repeat it.

This is in the ken_unwanted video from RX, and there’s a link to it on the first page. I find these combos quite tricky, as there’s a lot of problems if you get the distance to walk back wrong, or you kneedrop at the wrong time. Check the video out for more information.

Just off the top of my head… someone tell me if this works.

Let’s say I’m going for the c.HP, MK tackle x2 in the corner… Couldn’t I optimize the combo for my crappy execution? lemme explain:

c.HP, charge back, towards, back+MK for tackle (hold MK!), press toward+let go of MK, immediately hit s.HP after letting go of MK.

Negative edge works in this game right? So if I do this, I’ll get my 2nd tackle if I buffered correctly… however, if I scrub it up (and NOT get my 2nd Tackle) I will instead knock them down with s.HP (or whatever else I decide to stick in there).

In any case, no more shitty whiffed LK’s or towards+MK after the first tackle.

Good idea?
