I don’t have frame data, but I do know that Rashid is negative if all of the EX. whirlwind shots doesn’t connect after the roll.
The Rashid should be slightly delaying the roll time so the opponent is blocking all of wws.

So, over the past year, I think Rashid turned out to be quite an exceptional character. A week ago I went through the entire Rashid discord from beginning to present. I saw the discussions about how just a few tweaks to his damage and he’d end up a top tier contender. I read the complaining about people falling out of HP mixer and how it should hit on both sides. I saw some of my own stuff in there. Right before 2.0 hit, I said I wanted, for one year, for Rashid to be a problem. Capcom basically obliged me. For the first year quite a few people likened Rashid to Dan. As a Rashid main, it really did hurt to see that as their impression of him. I love Dan. SF Alpha Dan has special place in my heart. I hope he makes it into the game. But Rashid is in no way shape or form a derivative of Dan. Not in character, not in playstyle. No similarities. He’s his own character with his own virtues and vices. In season 2 perceptions of him changed. He became a threat. And at one point, for reasons because there is something there to question or it was out of malice, there was a campaign to get the character nerfed. There was also quite a few less instances of “lol Rashid damage” appearing in Twitch chat. Quite a few heads have turned on Rashid in the end. I guess that’s good…
Things didn’t exactly pan out how I wanted them to, though. His adjustments were exactly that, adjustments. What facilitated Rashid becoming a threat did not come free. The techniques that fostered my attachment to the character (the angles of his safe dive kicks, cr.hp’s shifting hurtbox, riding the wind from EX WWS to cross up) were either thrown out or severely revamped. A good chunk of his technique was eschewed to make his existing arsenal stronger. And for the past year I soaked myself in disappointment to his changes. I was not able to appreciate season 2 Rashid as one should. He’s very strong and he’s fun, but he’s not as fun as I would have liked him to be, I think. Season 2 was not as enjoyable at it could have been. The safe dive kick angles are difficult and the reward for success aren’t good. I did gain some insight into how balancing a character works. Nothing comes free (unless you’re Akuma or Cammy). In order to gain, some things have to be given up. And when what’s given up is something you value, it kind of hurts. It irks me to no end to read people say “he’s good, now.” “He’s viable now.” With comments like those, I really feel Capcom catered to people of “that crowd.” Where it’s the damage a character does is all that matters. I’ve complained about Rashid’s damage. Prior to 2.0 I complained about how much effort it took to win. It’s a bit easier now, yes. But if I knew what the costs would be, I would have kept my mouth shut.
I should be happy for how our boy has turned out this season. I am happy to see how he has advanced, how perceptions of him have change. But those feelings are drowned out by my sadness at what I’ve lost. It’s all quite selfishness, really. “For the greater good” - bah. I’m not looking forward to the future. I’m (somewhat) enjoying “now”. I’m not letting the fear of imminent nerfs shape my thinking. Rashid has a lot of depth - there’s always something new to be discovered. I’m still finding new things. Maybe it’s stuff I’ve should have known at Gold, but regardless, it still brings a smile to my face when I discover it. And there are no thoughts of switching to another character. East coasters will suffer my Rashid for many more nights! I have been toying Ryu, though. I’ve gotten over my fear of the motion for dragon punch. One of the reasons I went with Rashid was because I felt I did not have the fingers for DP on reaction to someone jumping. But I started with Ryu last week and now I’m silver with him. DPing people from the air hasn’t been a problem, although I do have to give up my super - trying to DP from down-back, super always comes out. This got me thinking. Someone in the Rashid discord brought up changing mixer inputs to DP motion. At first I balked at it, but now I’m not so adverse to the idea. The mixers are intentionally faulty because they’re hqc motions. With a DP motion DP, we’d gain all the “rights and privileges” associated with them. No more falling out of HP or EX mixer, or jump-ins blatantly ignoring our anti-air attempts (Necalli). What do you think?
So that’s been my year, how’s your year been? Thoughts on the future.
