Rant about the quality of online kof players

yes u certainly do

I can’t see why anyone would disagree with this post. Let’s be honest; there’s hardly any/accessible comp for KOF in the US so logically, the fastest way to get better would be through playing online which is more accessible. I don’t know what the fame part has to do with anything, but I guess you can interpret that as just knowing other players and getting known yourself, which isn’t bad at all. People like to make excuses and say that 2k2 and/or 98 are outdated and no one plays them but that’s a joke and a lie since it’s the most accessible KOF game.

Can people please just shut up and play the game? Everyone talks about tournament this and tournament that. It’s all talk, but how many of you are actually ready for a tournament and play the game at a tournament level? The reason why Melty Blood got to where it is is because the people that played the game were actually GOOD at the game.

No one was saying that it simply takes a good netcode for the game to get somewhere, but a game does have to have a good netcode to even get anywhere.

I’m not really taking this out of context, but if you think I am please tell me. Why does Daigo play online? Why do any top players play online? Pretty sure everyone knows why. Now, why do scrubs play offline with the same 3 people all the time? Playing online is still playing the game. You always get something back when you play, even if you use 1/5th of your brain.

Also LOL @ VF5 having an excellent netcode.

Hey all, for what it’s worth we’ll be running Garou and KOF 2k2UM again at Final Round next year.
The difference from last year is that Japanese players like Tokido are actually coming this time around. I don’t know about you guys, but this is a chance to really level-up and have a big turnout at pretty much the only US Major that has ever shown respect for SNK.

That’s just the thing. That is what I interpreted from his post; that basically a KOF game getting good netcode/playing online will get it popularity and exposure with players, eventually resulting in a much larger [offline] scene. If I misinterpreted that, than my mistake. If not, than I still disagree strongly.

See, I didn’t say at all that playing online is “useless” or “scrubby” or can’t help your game/ contribute everything positive. I thought my post was pretty centered on my point being that simply playing online or having good netcode will seldom contribute to an offline scene or more tournaments.

And people not being ready for tournaments? Or being tournament level? Well isn’t that a loop in logic there? People are ready for tournaments by having tournaments. Despite the proliferation of people playing SSF4 online, I highly doubt many good players use endless match to train for tournaments.

At this point, where an offline scene doesn’t even exist, what does it matter where people play? By having people play the game and get better at the game and thus having better players how does that NOT contribute to an offline scene?

I hope you’re not implying that high level play only happens in tournaments since it’s extremely easy to get a bunch of mashers and call it a tournament (especially in this country).

Your post is generally correct. The genuine beefing that goes on is only between a vocal few, and I guarantee it’d melt away irl. The people who try to reason with them (on the boards) just get ignored or insulted. It’s off putting for sure, but talking more about it doesn’t help things…so I’ll shaddap.

I’ll be there again. I was there this past year as well.

Going off of what Desmond said earlier, it’s true that there are barely any USA players on GGPO. I can’t necessarily speak for the 98 rooms since I’m somewhat new to them (though it’s looking like the case is the same) but for 2002 what I’ve noticed over time is that the Americans you see on a regular basis in general are the SAME PEOPLE. There are barely ever any new faces amongst the crowd of mexicans/koreans/chinese/latin americans/whatever.

I agree with Anakron; people need to just shut up and play the game instead of arguing.

I like how the one guy who COMPLAINS about what people are doing FOR THE COMMUNITY. Is the same guy COMPLAINING ABOUT PEOPLE COMPLAINING…and telling us to play a game he doesn’t even try to build in his own local community or region. All that potential in the North East…SMGDH!!! :nono:

And then on top of all that…is the biggest egotistical, insulting, disrespectful, and two-faced…douche bag of all. And NO…I’m NOT talking about Syxx…this time…

“If it didn’t happen in #snkplaymore…it didn’t happen.”

  • The Douche Bag

GTFO that garbage.

It’s people like you that are the reason this community will never progress.

kof is old clunky and looks like a nintendo game

LMFAO The Douche Bag responded. Didn’t see that coming.

People like me?

Remind me to buy yo sorry ass a mirror for national “go fuck yourself” day. No…I’ll get you 6 mirrors. Noo…nooooo…a fucking lake. Nah…THE ATLANTIC FUCKING OCEAN!

So you can never say anything that got damn stupid ever again.

Complain more…lame.

I’ve never ever met someone so in need of a lobotomy.

LMFAO!!! U fuckin lame. I said what I needed to say. Away with you…

“waves hand”

Hey guys, I’m finna start playing on GGPO more often…maybe I’ll be allowed back into the…

UNITED STATES OF AMERICA DIVISION OF PROFESSIONALISM SNK/KOF CONGRESS…aka…#snkplaymore @ EFNET

D:

OK, how we all just to agree to STFU and play KOF whereever and whenever we can, and when the opportunity arises to hold offline tournaments, we agree to enter them whenever we can.

with that said close this thread please

Amen

I agree. Arguing and bickering is just wasting pure and precious game time.

I actually have a real rant. What’s up with American players that cry about a scene over here, yet they don’t even want to fucking play. About seven times now I have logged on to irc and sent out a request to play to no avail. I stayed logged on for hours at a time as well. Several times people just talked right over what I said like I don’t even exist or something. I think it’s funny how most of you are quick to tell people how they aren’t helping the community. You aren’t helping the community by not playing.

Dunno. Sparkster, Feez, and I play often on GGPO but usually against randoms or each other then go off to study/school. Can’t speak for much of others on IRC except for like SNK420, Rogueyoshi, and Emil when DFO is down. Then Mizuki and Apartheid occasionally play.
