You need to subtract the $1 not add it
your $1 is irrelevant. what completes the $98 to make the $100 are the dollar each you gave your parents already. pocketing the extra dollar doesn’t mean anything as at the end you will still pay back the same total amount of $$$.
like someone mentioned do 1.50 each and then you lose $3…not. That’s the part that you already payed back that makes up the total of $100

anyway, the extra dollar comes from you since you still owe each parent a dollar. you had the one that you kept for yourself, which you give to one parent. then you give the other parent another dollar. that’s all.
