No. But they just give them a short “time out” then they go back in. Takes a lot more than a thrown punch to get ejected from a game in hockey…(unlike basketball, football, etc)
No not really, but it’s so ingrained in Hockey that it’s expected, and it’s not penalized by much. Once they are done scuffling, they go to the box for anywhere between 3-10 minutes I believe, then they are let out to do whatever again.
I went to one Hockey game up in Dallas when I was around 8, mother fucker picked a dude up and THREW him through the glass panel in front of us, shattering it. They had to shut the game down for 30 minutes to repair it.
That was when I loved the sport, it’s like figure skating meets boxing, but points are involved for some reason.
Hockey fights are more entertaining than boxing matches because fighting in hockey is so raw and they swing for the fences everytime!
It’s not a dumb question. Fighting is a five minute penalty for both players.
Fighting in hockey can be considered a way to internally police the game when the other team does something that is physically dangerous or disrespectful.
In a league I play in, an asshole on the other team nearly took a buddy’s eye out with his blade and was talking shit about it so I challenged him. The refs didn’t even call the high-sticking penalty until after I fought the offending player. The other guy got suspended for a few games for trying to sucker punch me with his stick still in his fist before I got my team’s revenge. Justice was served.
This was in a non-contact league, by the way. I enjoy fighting in hockey like most fans but in the long run it should probably be phased out of the game, despite it’s awesomeness.
The one time I went to a hockey game it felt like the crowd got twice as excited for the fights than anything else in the game which I found to be pretty fun. Haven’t gone since though
This is how I feel about F1, I just watch the start and maybe a couple of laps to see if anything crazy happens then tune in again later for the final laps
