Quick Akuma painting

Good stuff.

That is beautiful work … especially if it only took an hour

Very Nice!!

man that’s sick, I especially like your signature! lol

Nice, I agree about the head being too small.

You shouldn’t have skimped on the hands and feet though.

When you draw something, you detail the places that you want people to look at or that are important. So, for this sketch, Akuma’s hands and feet weren’t important. If he were throwing a fireball, then I’d agree about showing some detail in the hands.

So, here’s another. I forgot I had this and just found it while looking around in a folder.

I was testing out some Photoshop settings since I had just installed CS3 a few days before. I think that was back in April of '08.

:dp:

only thing i’d say is that the hair is waaaaaaaaay too bright. stands out a little too much ya know? i also think his right arm (our left) is a little short, mainly the forearm. the nose is a little hard to discern, but i wouldn’t have any idea how to change that so i’ll say that’s not that big of a deal. other than that great painting job man. diggin the motion blur on the ground.

edit: now that i think about it you could extend back leg farther back to give a greater sense of motion. the motion blur’s great, but the pose makes him look like he’s simply stepping forward instead of being on the quick kill. on the other hand the current pose would work well w/o the blur, making him look more powerful and a bigger threat. i guess it depends on what you want to go for.

Appreciate the comments.

You know why the hair is so bright? It’s because the environment is so dark. If it were a lighter environment, then I’d dull his hair down. Again, it’s the whole notion that I have the most detail(or in this case, color saturation) on where I want the viewer to focus. If you look at the ponytail portion, that part isn’t important, so it gets pushed into the background and it isn’t very distinguishable or saturated at all.

As far as the arm goes, if you saw it without the purplish glows, it doesn’t look as foreshortened. The other thing that makes it look shorter is that the glove extends up the forearm, so it cuts off where you think the arm should go down to the wrist and it’s not short at all.

yeah i saw where the glove started and that’s what threw me off but i thought about it again and realized it’s not actually that short. i figured you wanted the hair to stand out as a focal point. i just think the bright color could be turned down a bit and still stand out. even a deeper red would still catch your eye against the dark blue background. the glowing eyes also help shift focus in that area as it is so i’m just sayin you don’t have to put so much energy into that one part i guess? either way. still a great painting.

Very good stuff, weslouie. Ya think you could devote another hour or two to some fanart? :stuck_out_tongue:

I don’t think the head too small in the first piece. Just take a look at some of the Capcom’s art. There is disproportion everywhere. That’s what’s intriguing to me. I would say don’t change it. I think it’s a good piece. Eye flow is good. Values are good. And as for the comment on the red hair. Couldn’t help but laugh. The red hair is fine. It didn’t stand out or bother me.

Keep up the good work man. You got a lot of talent.

Oh yeah, the hair is really saturated for sure. I tried different values and saturations of red and I liked this one the best from what I remember. Just comes down to personal taste :wgrin:

Thanks again!

Not really right now. I’m on a pretty intensive project until the end of the year, but hopefully sometime in the future!

Well, thanks there, cgfelker. Much appreciated.

BTW: Checked out the website. Very impressive body of work.

Oh, thanks for taking a look.

A lot of that stuff on there is old work since for the past what…2-3 years I’ve worked on projects that are going to be released in the next few years.

Man I can’t wait to see your new works! You seem to be well rounded in your skill set.

I’m kind of in a crossroad with my art. I would love to figure out how to get some gigs in the entertainment industry but I just have no clue where to start. I work for a defense agency doing concept art and storyboarding for a in-house animation group. But I can’t show anyone because it’s all classified stuff. Very frustrating.

I look at your work as motivation to try to find greener pastures.

Any sound advice you can provide? No worries if you can’t I know these questions are kinda taboo with some people. But if you can it would be greatly appreciated! Take it easy man!

Thanks for the compliments.

Well, all the advice I’d have to give would be to make sure that you have a really, really solid portfolio. I’m not sure what part of the entertainment industry that you’d like to get into, but if it were say…games, there is a ton of competition out there for those jobs. Especially now with all of the layoffs that are happening at certain places. Most of the game companies that are hiring right now are in WA state, Texas and Mass. The top places are definitely much harder to get into, but if you have a really good portfolio, they’ll see that and maybe you’ll get an opportunity to work.

That’s about it!

wow really great stuff weslouie.

Excellent!!!
