The difficulty is hard even on easy. And it’s hard to run with the gamecube controllers.
It still ticks me off to this very day that Sega and AM2 were basically primed and ready to give this game an eventual Sega Saturn port, but for some reason that was never made explicitly clear (VF3 development?), they balked at the last minute. The one truly good Sonic title of the 32/64bit age, and Sega couldn’t deliver.
Worse yet, I could have seen the game actually going places, had they bothered to at least give it an update, if not a full-fledged sequel. Sonic’s not that popular in Japan, so when they DO get into a game, it’s usually wise to capitalize on it. But again, they dropped the ball on several different levels when it came to this game. And all we get left with now is the likes of “Sonic Battle” for the GBA, which isn’t a bad game, but isn’t all THAT good either…
Yeah Sega really dropped in on this one. I feel it may have had to do with Sega of America not wanting to hurt Sonic’s image. Since Sonic games main sales come from the US, I feel that if SoA didn’t want the game on consoles that Sega of Japan wouldn’t have released it on consoles anywhere. It is really sad because it truly was the only good sonic game throughout the whole 32/64bit era.
Took them 9 years to release on a console and still they didn’t even update. They didn’t relieve the game of its main problem (the catch up system), nor did they add any kind of training mode. I still have trouble learning how to do certain lands in this game because I really have no really efficient way of practicing them. Putting barriers on 10, match on 5 with infinite time just doesn’t make that good of a training mode.
The game plays so vastly different from the game is often compared to. In reviews, people often say its like a watered down virtua fighter with Sonic character. However as much as I play the game I cannot seem to find many game play similarities to virtua fighter (or even fighting vipers for that matter).
I would really love to see a sequel to it obviously. Main changes that need to be made are;
Larger Character Roster: 8 is pretty damn small.
Get rid of the catch up system
Replace some of the universal attacks
I would also sort of like them to add different kinds of hyper mode instead of just the speed boost thing but it doesn’t matter too much.
Its hard to run? I can do runs of the whole arcade mode with Knuckles in around 3 minutes… seriously. The CPUs are freaking retarded, however they do avoid grabs almost perfectly.
Which still doesn’t make much sense, if true.
I mean, it didn’t take a rocket scientist to comprehend that places where Sonic actually sells well (US and PAL), were friggin’ STARVING for a good Sonic title at that point. Sonic 3D Blast sucked, Sonic R stank highway to heaven and the fabled “Sonic Extreme” became a pipe dream that burst on itself. So outside of Sonic Jam (which was just the first Sonic game compilation), Sonic never had a solid title on the Saturn. I think THAT did more to hurt his image than any, rather silly fighting game could have stood to have done, so if this really WAS the reason why Sonic the Fighters never got a Saturn port, Sega was on some stronger crack than I gave them credit for. And yet, they wonder why Sonic is in such a position that he doesn’t get any respect…such bad decisions…
Same. But of course, I don’t think we can’t expect but so much from current day Sega. If they haven’t given us a new Virtual ON by now to make up for that bad taste that MARZ left in our mouths, I really doubt that they’ll commission AM to come back and try again with a Sonic-oriented fighter. Because, of COURSE, that would be too much like right…
Part of the reason why a lot of my hopes for the franchise are riding on BioWare’s Sonic RPG. If THEY can’t make Sonic “cool” and respectable again, in a similar manner that they made Star Wars “cool” after KOTOR…then really, NOBODY can. It’s such an interesting, and sad state when the fate of a franchise’s pedigree relies on an awesome company, but it the IP holder themselves seems incompetent of doing such a thing…
…opens his mouth to say something but nothing comes out and he shuts it again…wow…i have a strong urging to reluctantly agree with it…:(…
Sega has recently stated that they wouldn’t be putting Sonic in another huge adventure game for awhile. After the sour taste Sonic Next Gen left, and the pain that Shadow the Hedgehog brought, and the frustratingly long and repetitive levels of Sonic Heroes… it finally seems like Sega is catching on to the fact that throwing rushing big sonic titles isn’t working. They have said they would be focusing on smaller Sonic games and it seems like they have been going for sequels first. So it is more possible now then ever that a Sonic fighter will be made… however it most likely won’t be anything like StF… fuck Sonic battle.
Sega was on total crack during the 32/64 bit age. They were trying to start other franchises and besided they should slow down on Sonic for a bit… so all we got were game gear games… and who the fuck had a game gear? They screwed themselves over and over again with random hardware releases too.
Many Sonic fans have been craving for a Sonic fighter again, it really seems like Battle didn’t cut it for the majority of us. Personally, I would just want a sequel (or even a remake) of Sonic the Fighters… if its anything else… I won’t be happy about it. Personally I just want the same gameplay properties again… even if it doesn’t have Sonic in it at all. Though I am sure that having it aSonic game would improve sales.
Heh… oh well.
huh…but I actually enjoyed Sonic Battle:confused:Shadow was the shit in that game…but your right about everything else
whats your view on that rpg thats suppose to come out next year?:wonder:
