Yeah Makoto is pretty hard for Q. She’s got way better moves upclose, and her command grab really is a bitch for Q. The one saving grace for Q is his jab Rush. The bad thing about is it that it can be command grabbed in the middle. Overall, against a competent Makoto that you know has good execution, I would stick to doing random pokes and jab Rushes and not get knocked down. Jumping around like a fool isn’t a bad idea.
Yeah, I guess now that I think about it, Makoto can be a pretty tough match. Her command grab just fucks him up. but if you can get it off, jump in short, s. jab to buffered in medium command grab works well and gives the opportunity to do 2 taunts easily. If they parry it won’t work, but it will eat through any blocks, so it is recommended highly. for lighter characters, you can get away witht he short command grab and still be able to do jab rush punch. Whatever suits your fancy

Q is Urien in disguise. Just think about it…
Q owns Hugo IMO. Um, that’s all I really have to add.
Cheers.
Heh, after visiting Austin and got to challenge teh l33t karathrow.com author, Streak!!! Most of the time I used Q against him (I sucked but didn’t suck a lot!! Right, Streak? Right?
), and some of his friends. Here is my insight on more matches! :o
Q vs Oro
Q got to try to keep Oro away from Q. Strong and twd+Strong are good ones to anti-air Oro. Poke a lot, and try your damnest to avoid Oro’s close strong. Oro’s close strong on Q = ggpo Q. Also try to avoid eating Oro’s roundhouses and forwards poke, they do LOTS of stun damage, even for Q. It’s sorta tricky to land C&DB on Oro, since Oro is very good at close combat so he would make you eat too much stuff, so be cautious.
Supers for Q? Hmm, if you are super psychic and can predict Oro’s pokes 100% (which I doubt :bluu: ) go for SA2. Otherwise, SA1. Oh by the way, make sure to use FORWARD C&DB on Oro, since Q cannot connect EX Rush Punch after RH C&DB.
Q vs Ken
Oh dear god. :depress:
Ken’s j.Forward crossup will royally fuck up Q so use back+Strong as soon as it happens. That’s all I can think of
Arghghhh that j.Forward cross up grrr
Super: SA1 for EX usage.
Q vs twins
Those dudes will be all over Q, but with careful execution Q can easily throw them out. Also use Forward C&DB instead of RH one to follow up with EX Rush Punch. Poke a lot. You could try to psychic Fierce Slappy Hands but not as often though.
Super: Dunno, SA1 or SA2, up to you.
Q vs Makoto
oh cmon, u guys complain u get owned by makoto but she sux and i can mop her ez
Super: j.Fierce, close Forward xx Strong Dash Punch xx SA1 yes!
And that’s pretty much it. The other matches aren’t significant enough for me to experience the match up fully or whatever. So yeah. Also please keep in mind that those Super choices are my own preference. Q ROCKS!!!111oneone \m/
Hah.
Anyway, I always pick SA2 against the smaller characters like the twins and Oro. Yes, I usually psychic land it, because youc an usually tell when oro is gonna do a roundhouse. On the twins, just wait for the dive kick, parry, super. 50% Damage. A good way to play keepaway from oro is to do a fierce rush punch underneath him when he jumps at you. That’s what SlimX always did when I played him.
So I’m having some problems fighting against Yun and Yang with Q. I’m used to fighting against Kens and Makotos and Chun Lis, but I’ve only fought against a few Yuns and Yangs. I find their speed and comboing ability to be pretty hard to fight against. Does anyone have any more good tips for fighting against these two?
Small characters in general are a hard matchup for Q. This is espcially true against the twins and ibuki. While normally you would want to pick SA1 against most characters, I’d go with SA2 against the smaller characters, if they screw up, SA2 is fast enough to punish almost anything. The main thing you want to focus on is getting your taunts in early. I’ve been completely schooled by yang for an entire round, but i still won the round because of the taunts. Throw a lot, most of your damage will probably come from throws.

Haha I’m like reading posts from 3 years ago. Goddamn.
Anyway, vs. Necro dunno, that’s a matchup I can honestly say I have little experience with. I would guess you don’t wanna do anything stupid and get parried into Electric 'Nake (yes, Nake. Don’t ask.).
Q vs. Necro seems like a pretty even matchup, I say poke, CDB mind games, taunts, usual deal. I don’t think you need a special strategy to take down Necro, just bring textbook Q.
-Question: Does Q get eaten up by Necro’s MP and b.MP?? He might give Q problems on the ground dunno…
Necro gives Q problems, yeah. That said, Q also gives Necro problems, so the matchup isn’t too bad. I would put it in Necro’s favor, mainly because he’s better at pushing opponents into the corner and just as good as (or better than) Q at bringing the pain when his opponent is in the corner. This matchup depends hugely on who can corner whom first. Don’t just walk back into the corner, that is a recipe for poopzaster here. Put up a freakin fight, you can do it. Poke a little, preemptive antiair a little, rush a little, you know, a freakin fight, man.
The matchup with Necro should be about even (and according to the Arcadia matchups, it’s 5-5), but for some reason I’ve always had big problems with it. Necro’s high/low/throw corner game is just too awesome for me. If you can keep yourself out of the corner, you’ll do fine, but if Necro pushes you in there, well… a penis in your mouth, my friend. A penis in your very MOUTH.
I’m playin in Japan now for half a year, only using Q (and I’m not a bad player). Imo my match up list is like this
bad: Ken, Chun, Makoto, Remy
not so good: Yun, Yang, Ibuki, Urien, Gouki, Oro
OK: Ryu, Dudley, Hugo, Elena, Necro, Alex
good: Twelve, Sean
Ken shut you down with his double shoryu and the short recovery time.
Chun and Makoto’s priority of their pokes are to strong
Remy can give you, with his charge partition moves, a headache

As an Elena player who has a friend who uses Q, I do not fear Q much at all. It is nearly imossible for Q to have any control over the pace of the match, and it is tough for Q to get any taunts in if she plays aggressively(especially if elena has meter).
Ive been using Q seriously for a few weeks now and I havent had the chance to play against very many characters. mostly ken, chun, ryu and urien. the one I have the most trouble with is ryu, kens not that bad (but Ive only played a few REALLY good kens). ryu is strong as hell and this guy is pretty good and its giving me a lot of trouble. any tips for stuffing ryus attacks? or should I just apply the same strategy as I would against ken.
sorry to sound scrubby but ryu is a real pain in the ass for me.
I’m assuming that this is a denjin ryu we are talking about here.
Tauntx3 as early as possible (duh)
use SA1 to stuff his denjin setups.
Kara throw!
I don’t know exactly what leads into any of these moves yet, but here’s Ryu’s Denjin Setups:
Anything leading into FP SRK xx SA3 setup
Anything leading into LP SRK xx SA3 (on 1/4 - 1/3 stunned character, release if SRK hits)
Anything into LK / MK Tatsumaki, SA3 setup (preferable over HK)
Any air-to-air where you land first (FP Hadouken xx SA3)
Any instance where you anti-air a guy from the ground (LP Hadouken xx SA3)
crossup MK, c.LK, s.MP, LP Hadouken xx SA3 (better vs Akuma)
c.LK, c.LP, c.LK, LP Hadouken xx SA3 (better vs Akuma)
Also, the LP hadouken can be used as a mind trick to set you up for Denjin. Beware LP hadoukens. jump past it, and if he’s close enough while you’re jumping, rape him with j. HP.
Unless he throws the Denjin in block stun, IE where you are forced to red parry it (which isn’t as hard as you would think), you can blow through all the Denjin setups with SAI.
IMO a smart Ryu doesn’t use SAIII on Q.

I would love some advice on Makoto. It seems that as soon I get knocked down its very hard to guess what she can do. Even though i find kara throwing very useful i still dont win very much against good makotos. I know makoto is a very bad match up for Q, so im wondering if I might get some input
I say the best thing to do is to turn the power off on the PS2 and play another game.
BTW I got my PS2 all modded up with the original case so that shit looks legit now. I’ll be over your house tomorrow to play some games. I’ll be bringing Japanese 3rd Strike as well.
