Sick ass vids.mov got them dragonboy footsies.and great reaction with jumpback rh.but tokido just or should I say akuma just out classed ken/mov,but very entertaining sets.mov was workin the ryu tho
MOV is amazing with Ken, I won’t lie, I thought that Alioune was gonna beat him pretty handily, but he surprised me, and the set vs Hart was very impressive.
One more thing though, that was ALL Tokido doing the outclassing, don’t try to put that on the character!
(seriously though, Tokido is so advanced with all of those setups, he’s left all other Akuma players in the dust)
I like how MOV focused, cr.hp xx hp.SRK punished Tokido’s sweeps, that’s so dirty. I would say Tokido outclassed MOV. I believe Momochi has beaten Tokido more in tournaments than the other way around, so I don’t think Akuma outclasses Ken in general.
Against Alioune, MOV does AA hp.SRK (1 hit), FADC mp.SRK (meaty), EX SRK midscreen. That was pretty awesome. Also, Tokido doing cr.mp, cl.st.hp link in matches. Max damage/stun combos, mad respect!
Agreed, you don’t see many Akumas beasting like that.
I think there are some things that we need to take from those matches:
- Great use of FADC to U2. I honestly think this is something that every Ken needs to master.
- Excellent use of jp.mk, cr.lp, cr.hp. Very quick hit confirming into max damage linked cr.hp. Very nice.
- Really good use of Ken’s far.st.mk. I’ve just started using this more myself. It allows Ken to avoid crouch techs because he picks his front foot up and out of the way. Unfortunately I believe it’s only +1 on hit.
- More and more people picking up on Ken’s True Thunder Kick and FTK mix-ups. If only he’d thrown in a few FTK’s because Tokido and Ali started to block high on wake-up!!
I really enjoyed watching those matches. Nice to see a slightly different playstyle. His overuse of cr.lk into kara throw is very like myself!!!
Peace,
G.
I’m not going to disagree that Tokido is far a better player than MOV… in SFIV… but Akuma is also definitely a better character in Super than Ken is. AE not really… but Super definitely. Anyway I hope they meet up @ Shadowloo Showdown 2k11 in AE…
Does anyone have a video of any AE Ken’s using the aa lp srk xx ex fireball buff? I haven’t found any Ken vids where anyone has used it yet.
I’m curious to see at what kind of distance it works at. With Ryu you can hit a falling opponent that’s really quite far away, but I’m guessing it’ll only work with Ken on someone that’s falling nearer as his ex fireball is slower right?
Also, it’s good seeing people incorporating the sweep in combos off of jabs. Am I right in thinking that since Ken’s sweep is faster in AE than the 8 frames of start up in Super, it’s possible to combo far standing strong to sweep without counterhit? And does anyone have any videos of a Ken using that combo?
It’s noted in the first post of http://shoryuken.com/f259/ssf4-ae-ken-improvement-thread-mod-comment-box-210528/ but yes.
Thanks. I meant to ask if anyone had a vid with that in use. I’ll edit to make that clear.
A few of my Ken matches I have compiled yesterday vs Guy,Balrog,Guile,Guile and Cody:

Tell me what I did wrong in this match. Also did she have enough time to block when I did hado FACD to u2 while she did her fireball

Negating her fireball and fadc-ing into the ultra was really nice man. I’ve never tried that myself. From how small the distance was between you, it didn’t look as if she would have had time to block. Her arms were still raised from her kikoken animation as your ultra hit her, but I’m no expert.
Personally I find Chun quite a tricky match up. I liked that you played the first round quite aggressively, and it paid off. One thing I’d note is that you didn’t get many knockdowns. Maybe you could have worked the kara throw to give yourself opportunity for ambiguous jumps/safe jump a wake up ex sbk and punish? You got a knockdown after the nice dp combo at 0.45 and one off the air tatsu to sweep at 1.30 and perhaps didn’t use their offensive potential to your full advantage.
Also, when I’m up against it I have a tendency to use air tatsus to try and get in quickly instead of concentrating on good footsies and I think you might have done that a couple of times as well. You used one at 2.15 and hadn’t gauged your distance quite right and then the one that she ultra’d you off came shortly after.
Too much respect imo, not enough kara throws to make them guess your ground game. Once you got them to your pace on kara throws you go for counter hit setups. He woke up and never did ANYTHING, good chance to just throw him or get a block string started.

Was looking through AE videos I’d watched from a couple months ago and noticed at 8.10 the use of the new target combo against a crouching Guy in his block string. Looks solid. Apologies if this is OFN.
