I typed your name in but it says “invalid gamertag” :frowning:

Edti: Nevermind! It was a typo I added you. If you’re on tonight I’d like to do a few sets :slight_smile:

Err, I dunno. Check the Juri Leaderboards. I think I’m in the 10-20s on XBL.

Okay found you! You gonna be on tonight?

No. About to pass out. Maybe tomorrow.

come to evo ^^;;

Ok, the Guile match is a tough one to get down, but doing so will make you a better player. First of all, stop jumping. You should not be jumping at a Guile who is just standing or crouching there as he has several ways to blow you up. HK Divekick is -4 at best so he can flat out flash kick you for that, this player just didn’t know. That one dive kick hit you get in is a measly 40 damage. Booms alone do 50 and Guile has slightly more life. Just not worth it. It’s also impossible to jump and hit him with dive kick in response to a normal sonic boom, you have to already be in the air before he throws it. You can reaction divekick to ex sonic booms from the right distances but that should not be your focus right now. Unless you already have Guile knocked down, stay out of the air.

Guile is one of the few chars who can win a fireball war with Juri, but you can certainly put up a fight. Go into training mode and practice fireball stores to absorb sonic booms of all speeds. Practice this for at least 30 minutes straight, longer if you can. You need to absorb some of his booms with the stores, absorb some with medium fireball releases, absorb some with focus, absorb some with backwards counter (NOT forward), avoid a few by jumping straight up, block some, and slip low fireballs in to hit him. You will probably be storing both LK and MK fireballs at the same time a lot, so get used to it. Also remember that counter backwards builds meter and you take no damage, not even grey damage. The two keys to a fireball fight, in my opinion, are meter management and staying unpredictable. If you can put up a decent fireball fight against Guile (even if you lose) then you can do much better against the rest of the cast.

The next part is going to be boring, but it’s probably the most important: learn your normals, all of them. It looked like you were not at all comfortable with Juri’s buttons. Using a focus attack is not a replacement for pokes. Crouch MK, far standing MK, far standing LK, far standing MP are all good ranged buttons for poking. Stand LP has a good horizontal hit box too, great for poking people out of their moves. After you fight your way in through the fireballs you need to be able to use your normals effectively. Luckily, most of Juri’s are good. In close, crouch LK, stand LK, stand MP are good moves. Practice with all of her normals in training mode until you know their ranges by heart. Practice counter poking the dummy as it does moves. Check out the hitboxes on eventhubs.com and get familiar with them. If you find a move that someone does that you’re having trouble with, set the dummy up to do it, and practice countering it. Over and over and over and over. Learn that specific punish so you can do it without thinking. I did this for Guy’s elbow drop because that thing seemed too good. Turns out Juri can deal with it just fine, it just takes timing.

Combos. Learn some basic combos besides crouch MK -> pinwheel. Preferrably ones that start off fast/safe moves. Crouch LK x3 -> MK pinwheel is a good one to start with, easy to confirm off of a crouch tech. Crouch LK, stand LP, crouch MP/MK -> HK pinwheel is nice and easy but whiffs on most chars if they are crouching. Crouch LK, stand LK, crouch MK -> HK pinwheel is universal but has a 1-frame link. And remember your best punishment without meter or a fireball store is crouch HP -> HK pinwheel. Go check the Juri Combos thread, it has lots of punishes depending on fireball stored/not and meter you’re willing to burn.

Another important point: your anti-airs were almost nonexistant. I saw one crouch MP in the last match. You’ve got to practice anti-airs so you can do them every single time, because Juri does not do well under pressure. Freezing up is not an option. Crouch HP is good for closer jumps and some specific matchups (like Gen), far standing MK is good against Yun/Yang/Rufus divekicks and other far jumpins, and HK fireball is good for those godlike jumpins like Seth’s divekick, Sakura’s jump HP, and Cammy’s canon strike. Against Guile you probably just need crouch MP or sometimes crouch HP for the extra damage. Cancel them into fireball stores and optionally release fireballs for Guile to fall on.

Some good points: you did seem to get better during that video, in fact the last match looked like you had some kind of epiphany. There were a couple decent FSE showings, you did LK pinwheel in response to focus, you jumped less, you faked him out with counter back, counter back, counter forward ex pinwheel.

I would recommend you take these parts one at a time. Focus on getting good at one specific thing before you move on to the next. Hours in training mode is what you need to do. I’m on XBL so if you want to play some games just let me know - although I don’t have much besides my mediocre Juri and a meh Vega.

Hey guys, I am willing to take on matches with you guys if getting better is something you are looking toward. Don’t get me wrong, I’m no guru or anything and am still learning myself, but I feel that experiencing the ways to which other play style of juri work is much more effective that simply telling. We can record our sets and then show them to others here so they can get a better understanding as well.There is always something one player knows that the other isn’t always aware of so sharing knowledge only makes us all better. My gt is xWAx Saixhinata on xbox live. If my FL is full just sent me a message so we can set up a session.

Hey Sai! I got your DM on xbox live. I don’t think your FL is full so add me. I just sent you a friend request I also have our 2 fights in the secnod video :slight_smile: I’m totally down to record some matches and post them if you guys want. I mean I’m doing that already, but recording expert Juri players would be an awesome idea.

Now on to the matches.

If you notice I get a bit agressive with Chun Li only because I’m not too familiar with her pokes and block strings. I know after a few of my previous matches to just stay out of the air when trying to beat chun li’s jumping normals. She’ll also air throw me and there’s no answer to that. I keep trying to punish with an armor break at the end of Chun li’s combo too. It’s such a nasty habit and it’s brought me success before. :frowning: In the second match i try to fireball exchange with her and i teleport into Chun’s fist. Is Juri’s counter in good for anything?? bagh… I seem to be doing good later on as I stay away from her and release when Chun walks forward or jumps in. A few times I make the mistake of neutral jumping chun and she does he bird kick wakeup. I guess the best way to fight her is just keep a distance.

Second video the matches are a bit better since i know how Juri plays. If this was me a week ago I probably would have eaten a lot of neutral jumps into a BnB and got anti aired like crazy. I still did a full screen pinwheel in the beginning and it made me cringe just watching it. Quitting smoking is easier to do than not doing full screen pinwheels to me. Saixhinata schooled me on feng shui engine in the last match. That was depressing lol

@Voidstar I got started on doing some fireball training and I’m already starting to see a bunch of options I could have done beside mindlessly throwing fireballs back. Storing low fireballs and throwing them out when he least expects it is a great idea! My problem, however, is my fear of Guile closing in on me during fireball exchanges. If I’m cornered too much he can chip away at me with sonic booms, if i try to jump out of the corner he can air throw me. I felt my only options to keep him away were dive kicks. Should I just let him close in? His sonic booms plus forward attacks close distance, and he can block my divekicks after those moves. I guess my best option is to just let him come in.

@PhoenixKnight Once he starts following booms in it can get tricky. You can technically crouch MK or crouch HK right under them, but it’s hard to do on purpose in that situation. Just let him walk in and block the fireball. Once he’s in the sweet spot just inside far standing MK range you can poke him out of fireball startup. Even on trade it’s in your favor. You don’t want him in your face, but not across the screen either. The thing about Juri is that she’s a zoner, but she’s an aggressive zoner. You want to move forward, get into a certain range (character dependent), and keep the opponent at that range while you push him into the corner where you can have your way with him. To start out, instead of moving forward while zoning, just pick a spot and defend it. Don’t walk backwards regardless of how close someone gets to you. Push them out and keep them right where you want them. This is much easier said than done and you will probably get counterhit a lot at first. Keep at it.

@Void, I didn’t know Juri had much of an advantage when Guile is close, but what you said definitely makes sense. I’m going to try that next Guile I fight. :slight_smile:

funny thing about chip damage is that people are so worried about chip and the pressure that follows it, but if you actually calculate the damage from chip, you realize its not that much. a hit is sooo much worse to take that you’re soo much better blocking projectiles if you dont have a surefire way to beat it.

@PhoenixKnight this one might interest you, a ranked guile match that I played

Cough Alioune … [details=Spoiler]i’m kiddin, it was UFC Juni, but I should try to play Mastik again[/details]

I took a long break from this game ( 18 months) and i just stared playing again this weekend. Rusty as hell and i dont even know what character changes were made in the last update but Juri match-up knowledge is slowly coming back to me. The one match up i ALWAYS had/have a problem with is Honda - Does anyone have a replays they can post vs a decent honda?

If you still live in Florida, come through, I’ll teach you the Honda matchup. We play at Flippers now BTW, we left ZP.

@eiSH

Is that Flippers in Hollywood?

CapcomFighters: We’ll be going live with Challenge Capcom an hour earlier today at 3PM PST! SF4 on XBLA.

Any Juri gonna play them?

How do you know of Flippers? o.O;

Missed it :\

EDIT: stupid SRK glitch
