That’s quite interesting. May have to use Balrog again against my friend’s Sim.
Hmm, what about Abel? My guess is fierce wheel kick or roundhouse Marseille roll to mix up…
Thanks for this post, playing good Dhalsims is always a fun challenge!
I wonder if Gouken can punish these “Yoga Snipers,” HP Palm perhaps? Do these techniques also work on Seth, or is it Dhalsim only because of his floaty jumps?
Some solid ideas here, but a max range Yoga Sniper is a tough nut to crack. Here’s some feedback from our testing.
VS MAX RANGE YOGA SNIPER, MIDSCREEN:
Bison - No version of Psycho Crusher works
Bison - Slide does not work
Rose - Super / dash up Super does not work
Rose - Ultra / dash up Ultra does not work
Rose - No version of soul throw / dash up soul throw works
C.Viper - EX Knuckle may or may not work. I personally have had zero success with it. If anyone could actually show it working that would be great.
Blanka - Fierce Vertical Ball totally works. Go Blanka.
Gouken - No version of Palm works
Abel - No version of Wheel Kick works
If anyone can demonstrate that any of the above do work at max range midscreen, please do.
Some of these do work if the Sim player does his Yoga Sniper too close to the corner or not at max range though. Experiment to find the best results.
As you guys are testing punishes for your characters at various ranges make sure you’re actually having Sim do his proper instant overhead Yoga Sniper too. That is to say, jump back and immediately hit neutral fierce once he’s airborne then hold down back for the remainder of the 10 seconds to ensure proper blocking has been recorded. Change it up as need be to have Sim block high for overhead testing, jump for grab testing, etc.
Also, to answer the question about whether or not the punishes that work on Sim will work on Seth, well, unfortunately most of them will not. Some will at certain ranges, but most that we know about won’t because of the differences in their jumps and the properties of their fierces.
Apparently Seth doesn’t know shit about proper Yoga.
Thanks for the testing, guess I’ll just have to toss a LP GoHadoken, and get some chip damage hopefully. Also, curse you Seth!
Don’t give up, bud. Play around with the range on Yoga Sniper to see where Palm does work. Maybe even experiment with Gouken’s instant air tatsu. Maybe the ex or rh one has the range and speed to catch Sim. Give it a shot and let us know how it works out.
I’m new to this whole forum stuff, but got another Dhalsim question (it actually applies to Seth too). Which way do you block when Sim throws a fireball and then teleports behind you?? I feel like I’ve tried blocking both ways, but I still seem to get hit. Please help a brutha out. By the way, my XBL name is AIRRAY in case any of you guys have faced me.
Will do, didn’t think about Air Tatsu.
@hooray23: I guess it depends on if he re-appears in front or behind you. If you really want to play it safe, just jab him out of the air on reaction. There’s nothing he can do about it but take the hit (at worst, it trades but at least he doesn’t get the combo). Do that a few times and he’ll have to rethink his strategy.

seth punish if you have no meter
Those are some neat combos bud, but the idea behind Yoga Sniper is for Sim to jump backwards so that he’s out of range of most reversals. Every character can punish Sim if he does it jumping forward.
ah… i see. most sims i play dont do stretchy arms on the way up anyways, be it jumping forward or backward. I just thought that it was cool that you could link j.mp after a j.d+mk. theres probably better ways to punish anyways. good find none the less, xaaz and javitz.
Gouken’s unable to punish jumpback fierce at max range with Gouhadouken, HK/EX Demon Flip Sweep, IAT and EX IAT from midscreen. EX Demon Flip Throw can be escaped by a jump or teleport on landing.
Can punish with dash > Ultra if Dhalsim’s horizontal jump movement is stopped by the corner in any way.
