My point has always been, how can you be okay with a pot split and want them to act as though there is not one? THAT is a “staged” grand finals!
jesus christ…we dont care about pot splitting. after u win, the money is urs to do with as u wish. EVEN IF WE WANTED TO, we couldnt stop it unless we follow the top 2 players around everywhere and somehow restrain them from splitting. FIXED MATCHES are what we are against. they kill hype, show disrespect to every single person who supported the event, and gives the finger to the community that helped make the tournament possible in the first place

No one cares if Flocker agrees with you. Players are not above ANYTHING in the community, even if they are top players. Like CaptainGinyu said, top players are easily replaceable. If they leave, another hungry player will step up and take their place, although hopefully this time they wont be an ignorant piece of garbage.

its so sad that we have to actually put it in the rules that you cant fix matches…the majority of the community expects players to at least have a basic sense of decency and drive to play their best, no matter what match…i guess thats just too unreasonable and too much to expect…

Common problem in the FGC is that it’s okay to be a fucking dickhead so long as you’ve “earned it” somehow. At least that’s what some people think and it’s a pretty big problem, evident by some people in this thread.
Oh those poor brothers having their prize money robbed from them! How dare ShinSyn not want to have his tournament made a mockery of!
They were in no way entitled to that pot bonus. The pot bonus comes from the wallets of other players who came to the tournament to compete. How insulting would it be to be beaten by one of these guys at some point at the tournament only for them to clown around at the Grand Finals? I would not want the money I paid to get in the tournament going into either of their colluding ass pockets.
Reading through this pile of shit makes me completely unexcited for American fgc events.
Call me when people play for real in the grand finals, maybe I tune into the stream and watch some advertisement from the sponsors, who are largely responsible for the event happening at all.
The mentality of “I push buttons better than you. So I’m above basic human decency, thinking of others, the scene and all that ish.” is toxic.

What I wanted to say with my earlier post is if top players keep being so fucking obvious about pot splitting and shit, they gonna hurt their fanbase who won’t watch their games/streams anymore, their sponsorship money is gonna go down, since sponsors want to show their product to a wide audience and gonna take away money or retreat completely from events if the viewer/attendant numbers go back and shit.

I don’t know about anyone else, but it just seems like laziness to not play the match at that point. How hard is it to finish your plate? You’re playing a game that’s over in like 3 minutes per match, 3 matches total, typically. It’s not like you’re finishing up graveyard shift.
But hey, can’t really make players want to play, I guess.

Top players are what generates hype in the first place or this WOULD NOT BE A CONVERSATION. Do you think effing stream monsters do anything for the scene??? I find it very INTERESTING that so many of the people who are actually likely to be in the situation have no problem with it. You’re a complete fool if you don’t think the opinions of the people who actually face these situations and make these decisions should matter more than the opinions of people who don’t.

“Faking the match” would be pretending that they were playing it out as though something were on the line - easy for you to demand, but honestly, think about what you are saying.
The money is a motive, obv, that’s why they split. “Goofing off” in grand finals IS usually a direct result of an agreement to split the pot. The fact that you can’t understand “wtf is with faking the match” should clue you in to the fact that there’s something you’re missing, namely the perspective of the individuals actually doing it!
I guess you could say that, but it’d be no different from the world of sports, with similar rules in place in that regard. shrug

Simple solution.
Character locked tourneys. No one has to worry about mains or alts or secondaries or whatever. You register a character and you stick with it the entire tournament.
