Honduras, El Salvador, and Jamaica are impoverished, third-world countries and as such would have higher crime (and murder) rates. When you include underdeveloped countries with similar social and economic problems, that 28th ranking looks pretty good. When you compare it other developed nations, it doesn’t look so good.
Even though Piers Morgan was off in the total number of gun-related homicides, it’s not egregious. The difference between 35 and 59 as compared to 8,000 is still in the same ballpark. England does have a higher rate of violent crime than the US, but other countries like Australia, Japan, and Germany have lower violent crime rates than the US. As a matter of fact, after banning guns, Australia’s crime rate is the lowest it’s ever been. But, as I said before, I really don’t think the crime rate in and of itself is proper to use in an argument for or against stricter gun control because there are other factors involved.
There’s also the murder rate which many people seem to neglect. The US has a higher murder rate than nearly every developed country that either has stricter gun control laws or has banned guns outright. Again, the US looks pretty nice when you include all of the underdeveloped, poverty-stricken nations with unstable governments, but when you compare it to the other developed nations that are on the same social and economic footing, it doesn’t look so hot anymore.
They (not only hillbillies) hate the federal government, but they *adore *their state’s rights, which is just another way of saying that they love big, oppressive government when it lets them brutalize black people.
I don’t know if that’s true or not, but I do know that the NRA’s current vision of gun rights is fairly new and was originally developed by the Black Panthers of all people.
I mean seriously how many times do we have to see another report that states game violence does not equate “real life” violence. One thing I have noticed is that a bunch of old and angry white men being the loudest with “we need moar guns” while the other side has “we need moar background checks”.
I dont know, I never paid attn to politics until after 911. And i dont think the patriot act was even on my radar at the time. 911 changed alot of things for me including how I think about the role of govt, US history, etc…Im sure it is the same for alot of other people on both sides of the isle; the country undergoing a deep philosophical look at itself. and I think thats perfectly allowed. So I think your premise, that consistency over time is more relevant than present philosophical constency (or in other words being wrong in the past is more important than being correct now), is flawed and dumb.
Sure alot of brutal things have been done in the name of states rights (many unconstitutional-which always supercedes any state mandate), but I dont really think you honestly mean that. Are you just another of the many ignorant voices calling all conservatives racist?
For all I diskike about the OG black panthers philosophical doctrines, their actions regarding gun rights was on some hero patriot ish. Unfortunately, it was indeed probably racism/fear from republicans/NRA towards them that begat antigun legislation. They were on the wrong side of things then.
Illinois has a massive amount of gun control. And it has the hightest murder rate in the country!
California does to, but I don’t think I’ll be taking any strolls through Compton or Oakland anytime soon as a result of it. People who want gun control are simply out of touch with reality. Again, you really visit the hood for about a month, and see if you still think gun control works.
Well if they weaken the gun control then you can walk around with your piece in compton and they’ll leave you alone. I mean shit that is the goal right?
Nope my point is gun control doesn’t stop gun violence. Because drug dealers and gang members could care less if they obtain a gun legally.

Congress may have a little trouble doing that, with … I don’t know, … the Supreme Court granting video games 1st Amendment Status, but other than that, it should be pretty easy:
I never said all conservatives were racist. When I say Massachusetts is Democrat, does anyone think I mean every voter is as well? There happens to be a strong correlation between extreme pro-gun views (like those of the original “hillbillies” under discussion) and things like hatred of the federal government, racism, homophobia, human caused climate change and evolution denial, anti-education and anti-birth control, and all sorts of other views. You can’t pinpoint an individual’s views from the one data point “is very pro-gun because thinks government is planning a takeover”, but you can say a lot about the group as a whole with pretty good accuracy. You did it yourself by supplying the word “conservative”. I didn’t use it.
