I must thank you guys for your help in this subforum. In a month I went from this, a Rose newbie with no idea what he’s doing

To this… someone at least capable of beating shotos and making them sweat, and at worst splitting wins with the twins. :lol:

Still not where I want to be, obvious mistakes and worst ST reads ever. :lol: But I’m glad there’s much room for improvement. She has proven to be a very nice secondary to Chun-Li.
@zangief/apeshit
I think the Chun played kinda tentatively too. Anyway, not reflecting the kikos in R2 and the missed U1 there were the main things I saw… threat of Chun U1? She could have also Ultra punished the reflect at 1:07 imo, but didn’t.
I’m thinking perhaps not much moving around too (spirals and slides… but then again the Chun seemed content to be slow and not moving a lot too)? Quite a few HSU tags from the Chun. When you see close s. hk (the knee) or s. mp as blocked, usually, prepare to block high. Most players definitely follow that up with an HSU.
Really really lucky end to R3. I had no idea why floaty jump Chun would upback, might have forgotten the ST in your arsenal. :lol:
Hi there, I’m sangara a C+ rank Rose coming here for critiques. I’ve been lurking these forums for a while but with the release of AE I decided to start taking this game seriously. I’ve started to record matches in hopes that you guys can help me out some. [S]Also if someone could let me know how to embed a youtube video that would be awesome![/S]
Thanks to 4neqs for all the advice. I’m really trying to not jump in my matches now, I actually feel like I improved just from those critiques. Anyway here’s a match vs a Sagat player. Currently this is my worst match up, I have no idea how to handle those fireballs.
Slide under high Tiger Shots, reflect low Tiger Shots if you’re close enough to force him to block it, absorb them if he’s too far away. EX Tiger Shots are way too fast to reflect online so don’t bother - it’s not worth the risk nor the meter. Also don’t bother throwing out Soul Spark in this matchup because his fireballs outclass Rose’s by far in both speed and recovery. He can punish LP Spark for free after a quick rise with U2 as well. Speaking of that, I noticed you kept throwing out LP Spark after a knockdown even if he didn’t quick rise. You need to adjust. You’re having a tough time probably because you’re not capitalizing on your mixup opportunities. I didn’t see you try to mix Sagat up even once - no frame traps, crossups, throws, nothing. You got all your damage off pokes. That’s not going to work out.
I recommend you get the life lead as early as possible and turtle it out. Let Sagat come to you. This matchup is hell when Rose is trying to get in on Sagat but it quickly turns to her favor when he needs to go on the offensive. Sagat has terrible mobility whereas Rose’s is incredible. Your pokes outrange and outprioritize his and he doesn’t have a jump-in that will beat a properly timed cr. HP. The only thing you have to worry about is his Tiger Knee which is easily punishable if mispaced. His fireball game becomes a lot less threatening when you’re in the lead since Rose has so many ways to deal with them. EX Tiger Shot can shift the momentum in his favor with one knockdown though so be on your toes. Your own EX Spark is slightly more useful on the defense as it can push him back a bit and maybe even net some damage if you’re lucky.
Don’t let yourself get cornered and fight for every inch of space. Be on point with your pokes, your anti-airs, and your anti-fireball game because those are the things that will determine your success in this matchup. Capitalize on every mixup opportunity you get.
I feel that I’m certainly better than the time when I was just starting out:

My first time battling a T Hawk in vs mode. Hi, my untrue strings! Bye, my lifebar! :sad:

Anyway, I guess I just need more time to digest things, and stop getting hit by the stupid stuff. Hopefully I’ve put the fear of U1 in the other guy too.
I’m from the Phils too… big SF4/MvC3/MK9 meet on Saturday!
That being said, only a few malls have AE. Most still have the old game. (I do mostly play AE now, but I do make do whenever I make trips, if I really have to.) Vanilla SF4 (really the 360 or PC ver placed in a cab) + this arcade chain’s refusal to set the timer to 99 secs = me getting trolled.
