PS360+ and Windows7 64-bit issues

This has nothing to do with the PS360+.

I think a usb hub just acts as sort of a repeater for the signal coming from the stick. From my experiences some pc’s have trouble getting a signal from a longer usb cable. And I think the hub just acts as a buffer between the two.

I’ve had mixed success on certain chipsets with my PS360+. It never seems to work right on USB 3.0 with the longer 15ft cord I have. A usb hub has fixed the problem both times.

Ok, so I was angry at the world and have read this thread more than 10 times… I finally learned to read all the words though, and said eff it, i’ll try a hub… wow.
it works… makes no sense, but it works.

thanks juice weasel.

Seriously, the Official FW update guide needs an update. If I use a hub, the lights flash as described in the PDF, but it’s impossible to even get the FW update going without the hub. I’ve spent the last hour trying to update to 1.66, but then remembered reading this thread months earlier.

Hello everyone,
please excuse my broken English.

I spent a lot of time trying to solve the problems I had with the PS360 +. (In the case of an arcade cabinet 2 players) and here is some information that might help those who still have problems with these devices.

I had contact with akishop who provided me firmware to force my PS360 + in HID mode, or xbox360. For those who have problems of random recognitions of controllers.
You will find links at the end of this post.

Even after forcing recognition of my 2 controllers for “xbox 360” one of the two appeared constantly as “unknown device”
(cables are about 1.5m long)

I tried all ports on the PC without result. Until I tried with a POWERED USB hub. And then finally it worked.
But I still do not understand that one of the two had no problem with the USB ports of the motherboard and the other never wants to connect properly.

Hope it can help some people.

download forced 360
download forced HID

ps: thx for the tip upper “how to upgrade the firmware” in my case it works when i connected the ps360+ on my logitech keyboard who had 1 usb port for the mouse.

i just had this same problem recently. new pc doesn’t recognize ps360+. i read about people using usb hubs so i went and bought one. problem solved. i don’t understand exactly why this works and why it’s a problem with some pc’s to begin with.

Because the inside of your computer is electromagnetic hell(laptops less so because the AC convertors are in the power brick rather than in your case. Still pretty EM noisy environment though). This is why audiophiles use heavily shielded soundcards or external devices.

Bologna.

The insides of a desk top PC isn’t nearly as bad as you describe it.
Having a external AC power brick does not mean there any more or less noise in the system.

Also according to Asus the EM interference that Audiophiles sweat about is highly exaggerated. - http://ixbtlabs.com/articles3/multimedia/asus-d2.html
Audiophiles worry about EM causing noise and not common sense issues like is the on-board audio on the mother board disabled or not.

The issue is with drivers (and what mode the PS360+ is on) and interference on the USB cable which is outside the case.
Also Laptop users also reports similar issues.

I didn’t say all the problems are one issue. I’ve done my time in tech support. People have problems and scream, but there’s no way of know which of the possible problems they have.

However, the inside of a computer IS as bad as I describe it. Esp if the front USB port cable is routed past a case fan or disk drive on it’s way to the motherboard. The audiophiles wish to reduce this and throw money at the problem needed or not.

Anyways, if it’s " interference on the USB cable which is outside the case." how does using an external powered hub fix that problem? You still have the same USB cable, which is still outside of the case, getting the same interference. Obviously it’s not JUST the cable. That cable plugs into a port, which has to follow wires/traces to get where it needs to go.

Though it may be an issue with power as well. Bus powered USB ports might not be giving the device enough juice. Phreakmods would probably be more qualified to judge that than me or you though.

Hey everyone,

Lately I’ve struggled a bit with this problem. Especially the other day when I went to a friend a my modded TE did not work at all on PC (we did not have an hub).

So I’ve come up with a solution that seems to work everytime.

Basically I’ve used a USB extension cable with repeater to provide the 15ft cable which is < 10$ https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_2?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=usb+repeater&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Ausb+repeater
This ensures that the signal sent to the PS360+ is loud and clear for the device to work in terms of power.

In my case, I have a small type A/B usb cable to the PS360 and I attach the extension after. You can find pictures of it in here http://imgur.com/a/7JXNt
This allows me to select the cable size I want and change it if needed.

I have yet to test this on consoles but I’m gessing everything should be alright as this is only a signal amplifier and not an intermediate device.

Note: If that helps, I found out that my friends usb power level is at 400mA and I’m at 500mA. In my case the PS3/PC mode worked perfectly but 360 mode did not work without an hub but worked with a shorter cable. Dont know if that’s linked or not.

my pcb is only $10

take a look let me know what do you think

Picked up a Fighting Edge today and to my surprise it had a ps360+ in it.

Same detection Issues when I plugged it into my PC. It was hooked up with a ~15 foot RJ-45 cable. Swapped it with a 5ft usb-b cable and windows detected it no problem.

For the sake of science I grabbed an arduino I had lying around and soldered up a 20 ft usb cable. Windows didn’t like that and gave me the same “unknown device” error. Totally anecdotal but interesting.

On paper, the USB specification limits the length of a cable between full speed devices just under 5 meters (approx 16 feet). For a low speed device the limit is 3 meters.

So your 20 foot cable would not work anyways. Your 15 foot is just at the limit and the PS360+ can be a little touchy. Keep in mind there can easily be about 12 to 15 inches of USB cable inside of your stick.
