Ps2 games on ps3...lag?

Nope. The lag happens even when the PS3 is run in 480i.

 • The PS3 runs 720p for virtually every game, even if the game will scale to 1080p. If you want to force the PS3 to 1080p, you literally have to uncheck every other resolution. But that causes a lot of other problems.

On cvs2 on PS3 (all settings), I very rarely can connect Rolento’s throw, dash, scouter jump crossup. I’m keeping my PS2.

Damn I wish I knew this earlier. I bought a PS1 game called off Ebay and received it yesterday. I swear I thought it was me the whole time that couldn’t get the timing right on the 4th beats. :shake:

(You see how the 4th beat always lands on the green space?)

(Frame Lag )

Playing a PS1 game on PS3: isn’t that using software emulation (i.e. perhaps even more lag)?

Now, for a related question: what about a PS1 game played on a PS2? Is it known whether it produces lag? Like above, I’m asking as a sanity check of my impressions.

Yea I always have gotten lag

Games systems do not create input lag. I own a launch 60GB PS3 Phat. Played 3’s on it on my friends Philips model #40pfl3705d/f7(avoid at all cost!) LCD 120hz HDTV and it was Laggy as hell so laggy I got beat by my friends girlfriend lol she was mashing but anyway the point is I know the system doesn’t create the input lag cause I play on an Acer LCD monitor at home and I have no problems. It’s the manufactures problem since they don’t bother looking into if the tv’s they produce will have any negative effects on game consoles. Thus my friend is returning his TV and getting a refund. Yet I wish TV manufactures would create a gaming console exclusive none input lag TV ect,. CRT’s are input lag free but are rare now a days and hard to find especially in HD or of good performance.

Um, you couldn’t be more horrribly wrong. PS2 games have been tested on a PS3 hooked up to a SDTV and even there it lagged. Just because you can’t notice the lag doesn’t mean it’s not there.

With everything else being equal (TV, PS2 game disc, video connection type), inputs are delayed on a PS3 (verified on 20, 60 and 80GB models with software BC) compared to a PS2. Concluding that PS3’s dont lag with BC titles because you lost on a laggy TV makes as much sense as concluding they don’t because you got beat by someone that was left handed.

I was testing out pro-pinball (PS1) a few months back and noticed a good deal of lag when my flippers wern’t as responsive. It made a difference when I turned ps scaling “off”, so I got my timing back. Double checked this with a few other games such as Strider and Tempest X, then ran to PS2 hardware just to confirm.

Used a crt via component. PS3 output at 480p. Hope some of this was useful.

Sorry to necropost, but voltz’ last post here has me curious.

Did you test this on an HDTV or a SDTV?

Is that from the PS3 or is that just because you’re using a raw interlaced signal and something else has to scale it, which results in lag? You could probably tell quite easily if there was a difference in the amount of lag created. A constant 3 frames of lag with both doesn’t necessarily confirm or deny anything on just one setup but the image always has to be scaled to be displayed on an H.D.T.V. If the composite cables have 2.5 or 4 frames, an external scaler’s definitely being used allowing the user to improve their setup by swapping in a better one into the chain with regular S.D. connections or just having an SD C.R.T. on the side, switching to HDMI when Prog scan is needed on the main screen.

Also some PS2 games are 480P compatible, which means the deinterlacing step of the upscaling process could be skipped, which I’ve read is timely, so it doesn’t make sense that it’d always be three frames of lag. Interlaced games should take longer to post-process than progressive scan games, right?

On a PS2 you have to do some nonsense like hold down X and Triangle at startup to enable it. I’ve heard that the PS3 doesn’t actually require this step if you’ve got the right boxes ticked but I’ve always done it anyway 'cause I’m paranoid 'bout misinformation… It’s a bit difficult to get the timing down for this and sometimes you have to “reset” the PS2 but eventually a confirmation should come up…

The PS3 has scalers in it and they’re rather mediocre. I think the idea was to actually improve the situation where an especially crummy HDTV might make most games unplayable or to allow standard definition content to be transmitted over H.D.M.I. on which the system only outputs 480p

I went through the trouble of getting the 60 GB version because it has the PS2 chip for backwards compatibility, and I can assure you that it STILL LAGS. Tried GGXXAC on an SDTV on both the PS2 and the PS3, and it definitely lags on PS3. Makes no sense, and it’s really a shame.

I don’t have a link to the tests, but it was found to lag (internally) on everything in BC mode, regardless of output method.

I’m wondering if actually turning off the PS3’s upscaler, as voltz’ post suggests, would help in that issue. Or is it turned off automatically when the PS3 renders in 480i?
