Perhaps master Master Chibi was referring to a community other than SRK, however i haven’t a clue what ‘other place’ that might be.
He was not specific either so i just assumed he was speaking of SRK at the time.

Well, in terms of domestic releases I think PS2 is outclassed by both the DC and Xbox. Oh and fuck Sony, fuck them for turning videogames into the bullshit circus it has become in the last 5-10 years - end hate.
I’d say DC>PS2 for CVS2, A3, Guilty Gear X, MVC2, and KOF. 3S for the DC sucks. Everything else just came out on the PS2
A3 for the DC is crap.
PS2 has great conversions like all the Guilty Gear games, KOF XI, KOF NW, NGBC, MB:AC, HNK…
But for older games, PS2 suck. Like KOF 2k2/2k3 and all that old collections (94, 95, 96, 97,99,2k,2k1) made by SNKP. Hope that KOF 98: Ultimate Match worth a shit.
Dreamcast versions of older KOF’s and other games (LB2, Garou etc.) isnt that arcade perfect but are better than the PS2 ones.
I think in this way:
PS2 for new games: It has great conversion quality, some games you cant notice any difference between the arcade and the home version. Games like Guilty Gear (all of them, except for Isuka), KOF XI, KOF NW, NGBC, SST, MB:AC are supreme arcade conversions.
Dreamcast for Capcom games: MvC2, CvS2, I would say 3s, but most ppl (and most tourneys) plays the PS2 version, even knowing thats a outdated version (anyone corrects me if I’m wrong). It has nice game variations also, like KOF 99 Evolution and KOF Dream Match 1999 (KOF 98). Too bad they arent arcade perfect.
Neo Geo AES for old SNK games: You can’t find any console version that has perfect arcade conversion of games like Garou, LB2, KOF 2k2, KOF 98, KOF 97 (the Saturn one was good) or KOF 2k. I know the console and the games are too expensive, but in that case we have an alternate solution: a modded xbox.
I dunno about the SF Alpha series, but the DC one was good, Saturn one also. Is the PS2 version good?
So I think a true fighting game entusiast must own that 3 consoles, DC, PS2 and NeoGeoAES/Xbox. I have a PS2 and a Modded Xbox. I had 3 DCs in the past and a NeoGeoCD. But they are broken today hehe. I’ll buy another Dreamcast soon (learning Marvel 2 hehehe).
DC for SNK titles and exclusive wares. Near perfect 00,01,02 KoFs. Agetec/Neo Geo America revision are not the way to go for these. Capcom is debatable if you like and SF III:Double Impact enough to ignore some odd game troubles. 3rd Strike is noted to be a glitched copy…however Cabinet City Arcade blogs stated that 3rd Strike only has the Japanese version to look forward to when it comes to a sufficing, non-glitched version. Still, mainstream wise, PS2 does the work for Capcom’s games(A1,A2,A3), Super Turbo, CVS 2, and Third Strike. Coverage and collection factors, the PS2 is questionable compared to Saturn, DreamCast, and even the PSX, and I’m just going on known JAP/US imports games here.
I’m pretty sure AES is still damn expensive and would feel like a step backwards when it comes down to price and power.
What’s her name? or his? HOMO NO SUPREMO
…that went well?
PS2 SFAA > DC Alpha
A3 especially, since A3 on the DC was just Upper and nobody played Upper.
Considering this is my second marriage, my first(Daniela Christie) died on me after a few months. Now I’m on my second(Donna Crystal).
Amen took the words right out my mouth..'DA BOX.
heh, I thought just I had names for my dc’s.
The one I found in the trash in the rain that had leaves and worms in it, I cleaned it up and it worked better than my other DC.
I wrote in red letters on the lid “ZOMBIE”
the other one is “Windy” since it sounds like a hurricane when it’s playing
on topic…
PS2, for the uninformed masses, is the best console for fighters.
For the competitive group, it comes down to what is the best port, console does not matter.
A-men
real talk, mvc2 is the only “bad” port for ps2. cvs2 is arcade perfect. ps2 3s > DC 3s… same with alpha. GGXX, #reload, slash, and later AC >>>> GGX for DC… plus ps2 got all the “current” fighters… melty blood, kofxi, etc… ps2 is too good for fighters. plus ps2 got the naruto games, which has it’s own scene as well
Yeah, in overall, PS2 is the best system for F-games nowadays.
A3?..You dont know jackshit mister
I would say the Japanese PS2 is the best for 2-D. They are so much more serious about their 2D fighters, that they make sure they are top-notch perfect. You have to import it all, but who cares, with Play-Asia and the internet it’s so easy now. Your forgetting one more thing about the PS2 being the ultimate 2D fighting console: CONTROLLERS. My god, you have an endless amount of compatible joysticks and pads to choose from. You can get a joystick with a Sanwa already installed right out of the box, or a MAS stick, custom sticks, make your own, it’s freaking endless. Everything uses a Dualshock controller PCB as a standard. And if you have other systems you want to use, the Dualshock board has a compatible converter with almost anything you would ever play.
That’s a pretty good point. But, the DC did have the Agetec Green Goblin(which could be modded easily) AND the ASCII CvS1 pads(which were akin to the Saturn pad). And of course, the Saturn had it’s own six button pad right out of the box. So, it kinda goes both ways in terms of controllers.
Question for those in the know: Does HORI have an exclusive contract with Sony? Just wondering because I’ve never seen them make ANYTHING in terms of sticks for the other consoles back then.
…isn’t that not playable for tourneys?(DC)
Good work. Divorce with a DC is inexcusable… I nearly did it for 300, but I wised up quicktimes. As for my Cassandra: she’s quite a catch. Brand new and we’ve been together for the good times(Grandia II) and the bad(Time Stalkers) over the years. Even when people try to separate us. She records our moments with that VMU condom.
…that went well.
Were there any differences between the Japanese KOF 02’ (stand-alone) release and the US KOF 02’/03’? Or were both terrible conversions?
Oh lord…they both are the same game…nowhere close to arcade perfect…
KOF2002 needs the ST treatment in the US…re-release it arcade perfect…
The US and JAP PS2 KOF2002 are atrocious ports…
Play it and youll see why Americans dont like it…controls make the game nigh-unplayable…and its sad…because the Arcade version is wayyyy superior…hell even the DC version is fun as hell…just not accurate with the graphics…
Just about. Capcom is to blame for that one.
Why is SCEA so hesitant with 2D fighters? I heard SNK submitted the latest SS release to SCEA 3 times and they wouldn’t approve it, yet later this month the US gets the Art Of Fighting Collection…while the KOF, FF, Real Bout and KOFXI get nothing. Doesn’t make any sense
