Rayzyrbyrn, you just described few of the things that makes PTX powerful. He DOES have decent high/low mixup for pressure in addition to an unblockable missile. But the thing is he only has one missile to shoot (unless he is doing his super) and he has a VERY low chance of getting another missile after he uses it, so he has to make sure it counts. By the way, if you play Zero then you already know your health is gonna be gone fast if you open yourself up, ESPECIALLY against a giant. It just means you have to be more careful or counter pick. If you feel so strongly about tagging straight into an unblockable missile which leads to a lvl 3, I would like to see how you react to tagging straight into Casshan’s unblockable punch followed by a Variable Hyper Combo. Maybe Casshan should be banned as well.

It’s not possible to agree with something but not care that it isn’t practiced? I’ll counter with an equally ridiculous civil rights argument that is leagues away from anything we’re talking about. That’s like saying you don’t hate homosexuals but you, yourself, aren’t one. So all straight people are homophobic? Not quite. If a ban was enacted I wouldn’t bat an eye. I can see the logic behind it. A ban hasn’t been enacted, though I don’t really care that it hasn’t. I’m not going out of my way to create one.

But please forgive me for misinterpreting your thesis. Since you were providing rationale in favor of a softban, I assumed you actually were going out of your way to justify the proposed ban. Sorry about the misunderstanding.

And I’m glad to know that you don’t care about the outcome of the matter. But I do. I don’t want to discourage people from choosing unorthodox characters. I don’t want to stop people from choosing, in my opinion, the ‘underdog’ characters. I would much rather see people tap into their character’s true potential and show me something amazing.

Vader, Kurasa show me and I mean show he did it lol. Unblockable denku isn’t unblockable he slap me out of with chun 5a. XD So its very situational it would work on characters that have 5a that hit low but standing 5a slap cash like a bitch.

This argument is the reason that I’ve exited the TvC community and have no intention to ever return. It simply comes down to 2 camps.

Camp A - I play a giant or main a giant counterpick.
Camp B - My main team is incredibly bad against the giants.

On top of this, the argument has degenerated to the point of arguing over semantics and abstract concepts.

Case in point: I’ve seen many times the “cant be comboed” argument countered by a short list of moves that a few characters have disprove this. PEOPLE…THAT IS NOT A DISPROOF! Make a list of EVERY character in the game and list all of there moves that can be used to combo Ryu and then make a similar list with all of their moves that combo PTX. You’ll see a huge disparity.

Point 2 - The Giants can’t be grabbed argument. Again, make the lists and compare.

Point 3 - The giants invalidate teams. I don’t fear the giants because I play Saki, but why should I have to learn her? I should be able to play who ever I want and stand a reasonable chance at winning because of my skill as a player. This is not the case with the giants because the key to beating them is not outplaying your opponent, but rather countering his character choice.

I’ve been told by a few people that Doronjo is already good against the Gs, but my idea of a good matchup is not sj xx Rock - taunt - dj - taunt - Rock. We are playing TvC, not Kingdom Hearts.

But whatever. Fuck this community. It makes me feel like I’m playing Barney’s Dino Safari instead of a fighting game with grown ass men. No one is going to convince the other side that they’re right so just Fuck ya’ll.

Lastly, RyRy should’ve top 8ed, but this game is decided at the character select screen instead of in the match. Thanks guys. You’ve done a lot to help this game grow, but you’ve done even more to assure its early death. Fuck you and enjoy your giant robot. I’ll be waiting at in a GOOD community.

Yo if you think that you can beat giants at the select screen, do it and stop being a bitch about it. This is America, we counterpick dat shit.

Saying this is some kind of horrible flaw in the game is what’s hurting it because it makes scrubs feel justified in just giving up instead of learning something new. If you want to learn to counterpick them, it’s easy if you care, or alternatively you can learn how to win the matchup with a majority of characters, even if it’s not exciting enough for you adrenaline junkies out there.

I main Ken/Joe, I lost to ptx at evo, and I say man up.

Fuck this notation that we should embrace the counterpick. When I used to play xsf at Saturn tourneys in NY, apocalypse was banned because he broke too many of the fundamental rules of the game.

So do the giants.

You can sit back and be content with your losses to PTX. I played 3 different PTXs in my pool @ Evo and beat them all. I don’t have an issue with winning the matchup…but I still realize the absurdity of it.

I make a true observation on the TvC community as a whole (Camp A v Camp B), make a legitimate request for solid information as opposed to baseless percentages (list of moves…), and call Keits out for being a scumbag towards a mutual friend instead of asking for a double blind and you call my arguments childish? I suck balls at this game and I still have a better grasp on it, its mechanics, and its matchups than you ever will. Why don’t you level up some and actually learn the game beyond “mash A” before we continue this discussion.

Look people, all of you who are talking about a soft ban or ban in general need to think about what high level play is. It is the abality to adapt. If you do not want to adapt to something then stop playing in cash tourneys, but if you are trying to tell a whole community to not adapt then you ARE FUCKING STUPID!! Two of my three top teams have a hard time with giants but hey my top two teams are made up of 3 people. If there was only like 14 players plus 2 giants then I might be able to see a ban/soft ban. But way too many REALLY GOOD TEAMS beat out the giants. Hands down the best team in the game is still Ken/Tekka and they rape giants. If this game is alive in 3 years and Ken/Tekka is your Santrax or Matrix (top teams from marvel) then who is going to be bitching about it.

We just have no scene and no one to follow or set trends so scrub ass people like ^ up there say sideways shit and people get confused. Again, people this is a vs game and there will be at least 4 top teams if the game continues to grow. The giants will help make in stone who those top 4 teams are. Look at it like this, if Marn was using Var like Kay beast was then his team would look a whole lot more deadly. He could eaisly put 25-33 bil on anyone with one bar. While Kay Beast is doing 30-33 bill off two bars. Which sounds better??

Marns excuition is on point so for now he does not have to. Kay beast and Phampy would be some of the people who help him get to that level because yes marn does decent damage but he does not really have any reason to maximize his damage because most of the people he plays against are not going to block low. LOL.

Let the game grow and hopefully we will see the importance of being able to play more than one team at high levels. Ask any top player in any game if they do not have a back up? Not just some one they use to rape small scenes but something like Ricky’s Chun. While I am not saying that Ricky plays chun as his sole back up, but he did show in great form how good it is to be able to adapt and get over your main.

Giants don’t belong in tournament setting because the giant hussle fucks up the 2 out of 3 tournament format.

Beyond that, they consistently drive away new players more than anything else I have seen and I am convinced they are damaging to the community above all else. People Boo’d TvC when a giant was on stage at EVO. The benefit we get from keeping giants around does not outweigh the benefit we get from removing them from tournament play.

No matter what you do SF4 Sagat’s not going away, CvS2 Bison is not going away, MvC2 Magneto is not going away, and TvC Giants are not going anywhere, no matter how terribly, terribly dull and not up to your vision they are. TL;DR alert!!

I am not gone from the game, I?m simply distancing myself from this ?community.? The community is pretty much divided on this stupid Giant issue and rather than there actually being dialogue it simply devolves to Camp A yelling at Camp B. I?ll just say this, Psychochronic and Marn got booed at Evo for fighting their match CORRECTLY and people were heckling Niitsuma saying shit like ?you are ruining marvel? during his address. This is why I?m distancing myself.

This isn?t the issue. We have all adapted to PTX, but that still doesn?t change the negative effect that he has on the game. I know how to beat the Giants with almost every character in the game. I?ve put in the work and I know the matchups. I?ve waded through the boards and sat through countless hours of IRC arguments with PTX aficionados yelling at character X proponents and vice versa. I?ve adapted and so have the other players. The argument is not about adaptation?it?s about the effect that the giants have on the game.

That?s great that two of your top teams are good vs. the giants. My two best teams are good against the giants too?but that doesn?t change my stance on the giants. It seems to me like you are viewing this entire argument in light of your character choice instead of despite it. I take issue with that.

What!!! KBeast uses VAR because his team actually benefits from that mechanic. If he VARs into Batsu, he can take you to the corner for a loop (BIG DAMAGE). If he VARs into Yatter, he can ground you into OTG Fire Dog or go for a relaunch combo (BIG DAMAGE). Those are both BIG DAMAGE options. If Marn VARs into Alex or Zero, the combo is over 5 ? 12 hits later. Why would he waste a meter for the extra 8k when could just continue his ground string and get the same damage?

WOW!!! Marn does maximize his damage. Alex gets his damage from red life (NOT VAR) and Zero gets his from constant pressure, numerous frame traps, gross meter advantage, and the occasional left/right mixup. Your analysis of their play and this game as a whole is not only incorrect, it is downright laughable.

Counterpicking someone is NOT the same thing as adapting. It?s playing the numbers. At Ricky?s skill level, he could easily beat the average player with anyone in the game. Ricky picked Chun in the top-8 because he felt that Chun gave him a better chance at winning the match since it?s in her favor. That?s called playing the numbers. I could confidently walk into just about any TvC event and play random select the entire day because I?m good enough with everyone to beat the average player with anyone. That?s not me adapting to the game, it?s me being better at it than you. On the same token, I could just wait for you to pick your team and then pick my team based on the matchups and feel even more confident in my decision. That?s not me adapting, it?s me playing the numbers. I could also just stroll into an event and pick either Doronjo/Chun or Saki/Chun and crush everyone that I face regardless of their character choice. Now, that is adapting. I?ve done that, but I still feel that the giants should be banned.
