PROPOSAL: USA and Japanese speed standards in Super Turbo should be unified

I am seriously hoping ST:HD get all of this correct.

It’s that attitude that makes me angry and say that some of you are being closed-minded and ignorant. I have seen the line several times here now- “Who cares? Nobody in the US (that you know)”

It simply isn’t true. That is what you call egocentric thinking, along with groupthink. Thinking that everyone holds the same opinion as you, then playing with the people who hold the same opinions only leads to more closed-minded thinking.

Zass has a GREAT idea here, and that is to unify speeds. Not necessarily bending over for Japan, but making a compromise between the speeds in switching to something that can be practiced by all, not something that can ONLY BE PRACTICED ON ONE GAME AND CONSOLE.

Nobody asked you to bend over for Japan. The idea is to not just say “fuck everyone else, they need to go buy a PS2 and CCC2,” and practice on a speed that everyone can practice on. If you just like it fast, you might as well play Turbo 5 or 6 on the DC.

First of all, that is a poor reference. DC MVC2 is the most used version. Almost every tournament in the country is run on the DC, because it is almost arcade-perfect. It is slightly faster, but the same speed of inputs result in the same results, because there is input memory in the game. In ST, muscle memory needs to be trained for links. Not being able to link moves properly because you are still adjusting to a different speed will lose you matches. Simple as that. Just moving from Free select 3 on CCC2 to the highest speed on the Japanese cab at Zass’ gathering screwed up my j.rh v cr.forward>cr.strong with claw. Not being able to do that link for extra damage opens me up for a tick throw or reversal, and makes me work that much harder to hit him again to make up for the damage lost.

As power333 said, Japan must have a big issue with fragmentation, especially since their speed isn’t even unified within a single tournament! Japanese players aren’t going to come over here and complain about speeds because that would rude. It is a cultural matter to be polite to your hosts, which applies to their own tournaments, as well. As long as nobody speaks out on the matter, no progress will be made. I believe that this fragmentation is a symptom of nobody speaking out sooner, and is easily reparable.

Your yet to show how this is a problem for anyone besides you and your two friends. Give some examples of top u.s. players or foreigner’s who are refusing to enter evo. Give out names of people youve heard complaining about ccc2 during tournament play(if youve even gone to any). Provide some vids of these glitches that occur in ccc2(should be easy since they no doubt happen all the time:confused:) There are vids from evo east and west available=point out the impossible things that occur in these ccc2 matches that dont happen in arcade.

arcade is done, let it go, ccc2 doesnt have to be exactly like arcade because arcade’s are irrelevant due to the fact that they dont exist.

japanese came to evo when they used ps1 st. which had far more differences than a little speed.

fact is only way things will be unified is if you buy a japanese arcade cabinet for everyone that has ccc2 and trade them. I would love my own cab so I hope you can pull this off. STHD will be used next yr anyway. close thread

Glitches?

Please read the posts before typing. I know I’m being rude here, but you deserve this one.

@Kuenai

yeah glitches, my post wasnt directed entirely at you but also your two friends who are also stretching really hard to give your argument some validity. But of course everything is about you. just how we should all change speeds because someone named Kuenai has trouble completing combos. thanks for the neg rep, i can see how that would be eaier for you to do than to try and counter my points. cool

Less time consuming. Not easier. Your points require no counter, as they have little value in this discussion. There’s a difference between stretching points and examining underlying influences on the symptoms of today’s US Super Turbo scene.

Things like that have happened in the arcade. It’s just less common. Like Boxer’s tick throw against Claw. If you time it right, you can throw Claw during the slide on CCC2 and DC versions exclusively. What keith mentioned regarding the Chun vs Chun has happened to my Cammy vs Dictator, as well. 4 hit combo that did 2 hit damage (which is a one-third health difference, so it was VERY noticeable). j.rh>cr.strong>cr.forward>rh. cannon drill

The reason I say they are worthless is because you didn’t address a single issue at hand. You simply added to the groupthink mentality by imposing questions that can’t be answered and saying things that we have repeatedly dismissed.

First of all, do you talk to any foreign players regularly? Do you ask them if they’re coming to Evo? How can one know who refuses to come if they don’t show up? Good question, isn’t it? If nearly 200 people showed up for X-Mania while barely 5 entrants arrived from JP for Evo ST, does that say something? We play at a crackhead speed. Maybe they don’t bother. Second, that friday night was full of people noting the differences when going back and forth between the cab and CCC2.

The point we were making is that we can unify speeds still with CCC2, not getting cabs. Once again, read before posting.

who have you spoken to sir? but i guess you wouldnt get a real answer out of the japanese anyway because they are so poilite, to use your made up logic.

I can only look at current stats, amount japanese that come for st are consistent with the amount that come for other games as well, if you had 30 3s players and only 3 st players come over then you have legs to stand on. they have also come and played shittier more messed up versions of st in previous years. I’ve also heard no complaints about this in numerous tournaments this yr. 200 people for x-mania and 5 for evo says to me that plane tickets are hella expensive to the states and vice versa. Why havent you entered x-mania sir? Im sure its the speed differences that are stopping you and not money/time off work etc.

I dont need to prove your point wrong, you are the one that is attacking the current system and need to prove yours correct, you havent shown that this is actually a problem in any way. just that there is differences. please provide actual hard facts that this is a problem for anyone besides those that attended that magical friday night.

We set the standard for tournaments in the US. We have no intention of changing speed settings because of some country on a different continent.

We dont get special treatment when we go to SBO, so they should not expect the same when going to any Evo event.

Doubt it. It’s been how long and how many versions and they still can’t get it right:rofl:

aaaaand…wait for it…OWNED!

I think that everyone deserves to play on a speed that can at least be achieved by an arcade machine.

We don’t have to switch to Japanese speed, but why can’t we use the standard that has been used in the US since forever?

Evo is a console tournament.
