Project GT-C. Let's talk about circular JLF restrictors

Dont get me wrong, I believe you. It’s just keep scratching my head at the joystick stuff (this and the spark) where 0.1mm is the difference between awesome and ‘just doesn’t feel right’

So, I had the chance to use these GT-C again.
The Session was using only Medium and Small, because Large is too crazy for me.

With Small, I could not do Diagonal easy.
I don’t know how you guys able to.

But I couldn’t Block Low without having to fiddle around.
Or Jump Forward and Jump Back.

His GT-C put a hex on his opponents, though… I think you’re making voodoo circles, Toodles.

I got in a new batch of restrictors today, sized exactly midway between the medium and small sizes. I through it into a stick with a microswitch board, and marked where the diagonals stopps and started. Even using the the ‘disengage’ distances, the diagonals still were quite less than the goal 45 degrees. I’m going to play around with this and get some opinions, but so far I’m leaning towards the medium size being the one to get made.

If you want to try one out, feel free to get ahold of me.

I’m currently using the small gate that I hand sanded out just a bit to match the feel of my home made gate.

I also added a little electric tape to the base of the actuator (the part that touches the switches) and it is working much better now. The Diagonals are not an issue at all anymore and my game has much improved. I think the ultimate option would be to have a square actuator much like the Happ or Korean design but the Electric tape seems to do the trick for me right now.

I’m looking forward to testing out the new design and I’ll get and actual measure of the amount of tape that works best if anyone wants to try it out. I think right now I warped it 1 1/2 times, I started with 3 and backed off until it felt right.

hey Toodles, u taking international orders for these restrictors? I’d like to have one of each size.
Thanks in advance! Looking forward to see these items on big retailers

Just sent you a PM and a payment Toodles thank you

Toodles - I got the new gate this weekend and played plenty of games on it.

My verdict is that it is perfect!

The throw distance is exactly as I want it. I played it both with and without the electric tape on the actuator and I definitely prefer it with the tape. The diagonals are no longer an issue once the size of the actuator is increased.

I measured it out and it is exactly 2 wraps around the largest part of the actuator, you will need to cut off the rest depending on the width of the tpe . (Be sure not to get any on the slim shaft part or it will interfere with the throw distance.)

This is the best round gate I’ve played with to date! Thanks Toodles

I’m tapped out of the prototypes, but the order for a production run has already been placed. I should have GT-Cs coming out of my ears when the order is complete, but that’s looking to be around 2 months. Stay tuned.

(small perk that I think is cool: the production GT-C’s will be a blue tinted clear acrylic. I think it’ll look pretty sweet.)

I’m glad you like it, but the production ones are in the medium size. The medium size was the smallest one that had enough of a spread for the diagonals to be reachable with the stock actuator. Will there be an attempt to make custom actuators? Maybe, it depends on how well the GT-C’s themselves sell. I’m seriously looking at about 2 years before the production run of GT-C’s pay for themselves.

So when they’re out, please hype them up

NIce, I’ll definitely be grabbing a few of the production ones when they come out.

I hate circle gates; a lot, but I love your products. So I’ll buy a few of the production run just to have them.

Cant wait! Im loving the proto ive got!

And now for a taste of things to come…

Omg do want!!! When can we order?

20 sample pieces like the ones pictured are on their way to me. I have to wait for them to arrive, test them, bless then, and then the production run will be made. As soon as they arrive, a hojillion of them are headed to LizardLick. I just sent an email to get an idea of how long that will be from the time the samples are approved.

cool i really want one.

Sweet!

Ha, this is interesting. You know I bought one of these JLF knock off back in China last year just for the circular gate:

??? ?? ??? ??? ???-???

The knock off stick came with a square gate and a circular one and both of them can be used on real JLF. I use the circular one to play old street fighter games, which feels more natural for me.

It is great to see that your are making circular gate here now, sir.

That’s pretty sweet, I would have loved to have seen one before now.

Oh man these are SWEET! The manufacturer made a couple of tweaks to the large outer ring so it sits on the restrictor plate cleaner that it did with the prototypes. The inner ring that actually does the restricting is the barest, smallest hair smaller than the medium prototypes; I think because the prototypes were lightly sanded to remove burrs from the support framework that was printed with the piece itself; the size is no where near a small prototype size, but just a smidge tighter than the medium protos that went out. No problems hitting any corners and not quite as wide a throw, but that may just be in my head. Not to mention they just look frickin’ cool.

I’m going to send some of these samples to Chad at LizardLick to make sure he wants to carry them, and get the production order started after I send them a ridiculous amount of money tomorrow.
