Hello guys;

I’ve been playing with cammy for a few in SSFIV and well my biggest problem online is them evil shotos… akuma i can do actually ok… but Ryus Kens and sagat are a huge pain in the ***.

Could you share some advice on how to deal with them ? To be honest even the lame shotos kick my ass just by spamming fireballs and shoryus…

Well not much really. I try to do what you typed but honestly if i cant get in their head its impossible for me to hurt them.

I guess i must be lacking patience aswell, since hadokens spammers usually take the round easily because i try to get close too fast and not safely at all … (Jumping is bad:nono:)

I try to make them whiff shoryus as much as i can but to be honest on anyone with their brain on its tough (at least more than once or twice)

Now to be more specific, how to get close on a shoto (when i say shoto i mostly mean Ryu / Ken / Sagat) when they spam fireballs from the other side of the screen and are ready to LP shoryu if you get close too much ?

I guess my main issue is that i play cammy very very (too much) aggressively. This usually ends up as me eating chain LP DPs … and after a few i usually end up turtling … and god knows how much it hurts once my tiny carapace is broken (Thong is hot but doesnt protect much :razzy:)

So then it sounds like shoto mashers are getting into your head? The two best virtues you can have as a rushdown character are patience and perseverance. You have to be patient before getting in, and you can’t let one or two unfortunate psychic (random) dp’s get to you. Always remember that a random dp is only 100 dmg and a reset of momentum, but a baited dp is 300+ dmg or free ultra, and more pressure opportunity.

That’s all I can really say for now. It seems right now, you just need to learn to play a basic, patient Cammy. Maybe submit a replay video or something?

Well. I like playing against good shotos. You know everything they can do, and yet they win. That means they’re just super solid. Proper spacing, proper execution, and ways to shut you out.

Do you use pokes at all? Standing HK, Standing MK, crouching MP, crouching MK are pretty good ones.

It also depends on their fireballs. It could look like they’re spamming it. But if they’re really good, they do it at the correct spacing so when you do jump over it, they recover in time to DP you should you try to attack them. Also, it is their test to see how you react to the fireballs.

You should also try to notice their pattern if they have any. But yeah. be patient. You just need one knockdown, and then try to take off as much damage as you can. Ryu’s overall Average, and his rushdown is not as deadly as Cammys. Ken’s better at rushdown, but Cammy’s is better.

If you ever fight a good Ryu/Ken, invite him/her(? lol) to friendly matches. Play multiple times and you’ll probably get better. They might be willing to play even if they pummel you 10-0.

Personally, I feel like playing Ryu or Ken is harder than playing Cammy.

I dont use pokes too much against shotos to be honest… i just never feel safe >.< usually i try to build some ultra or something and get close enough to use it on reaction.

I’ll agree with you, all i see are mostly shotos, of course they dont play the same … yet its a big issue to fight defensive ones.(At least the offensive ones i can make them whiff or just punish them sometimes unless they are way better than me)

I suppose my biggest issue is to punish them small shoryus or tatsus… THey are so SAFE FFS. Really i get smacked by that small 2nd shoryu so often i rarely try to punish it with something else than a throw…

You don’t use pokes? How do you expect to get in on a shoto then?

Tatsu = cr.HP (reset) , dash under , mixup/combo/bait/etc.

lp.dp is not safe. If you’re baiting it out or otherwise looking for it, you should be able to cr.HP , cr.MK xx MSA on reaction, or cr.MK xx MSA/HSA on reaction.

So online lag is getting to you. Temporary solution: only play players with yellow or green connections. Permanent solution: don’t take online so seriously and instead play offline.

Hehe how do i get in on a shoto ? … the hard way haha. Usually i try one of those 3:

  • Jumping in
  • ex hooligan
  • Quick spin knuckle.

I suppose i should start Cr.HP when they tatsu me, i usually Cspike it or SA it depending on distance.
Thanks for the input on LpDP, if you say its possible then i guess it is hehe, just got spanked so many times trying to land that Cr.HP cr.MK xx HSA that i stopped trying.
Any tip on when to start the cr.HP on the shoryu ? I mean too early i’ll get a dragonbite in the arm, and too late i’ll get the 2nd dragon ^^

About online lag. Well i cant lie sometimes its really awful on the PSN. Also the green/yellow doesnt mean much sometimes unfortunately. For instance, someone with an unstable connection that goes from green to yellow and back to green a lot will lag more than someone with a “clean” yellow.

I dont take online so seriously, hell i dont take the game that seriously :stuck_out_tongue: … I’d just like to manage to land those combo i can land 90% of the time in training mode in a real fight (the timing is so different online and offline its crazy …)

well. those three methods you list are really risky, but can work if the person is new to the game. I guess jumping in works sometimes because you can change the arc of your jump with Cstrikes…

But my approach is just walking forward to like a block away. If they jump, I can CSpike them (if jump neutral or forward). This prompts to a knockdown and proceed to flowchart cammy (unless its like a Deejay or guy, and i’m just clueless against deejay/guy).

Or if they’re being really turtly, you can just walk up throw. Or simply walk forward and then crouch block.

Anyhow, Spin Knuckle is pretty horrible. I use it sometimes and like 80% of the time it doesn’t work. I don’t know why I still use it.

Up your frame trap game and/or master delayed TKCS.

An easier solution vs jab spam = throw more.

gonna try to improve my delayed TKCS game. Throw doesnt work vs jab spammer and thats why it bothers me so much :slight_smile:

If they’re mashing jab, they’re not teching throws, so what’s the problem?

Yeah, I own shotos. I don’t find it hard to get in because of the fireballs. Focus attack through them (not too many or you might get caught). Grab after a focus attack and you’re in for play time. Mix that shit up with dive kicks and hella frame traps. If they don’t bite the frame traps then grab again. The next time they will mash something try to tech. If you notice they tech a lot, put on dive kick pressure.
As for avoiding fireballs. Like people have said. ex spiral arrow gets you in there, and my favorite is an ultra punish. Buffer it, but not too obviously. Remember, be aggressive. You have Cammy, they should be scared of your rushdown.

Yeah so if they are trying to tech just do an instant dive kick into whatever combo you want. It’s so free.

So yeah been working a few with my cammy lately. Its been better against shotos in general (more likely against fb/dragon spammers) but i’ve noticed where my weak spot is. DragonPunch.

When i fight vs someone with a dragon i just feel so “unsafe” or whatever not so sure how to explain it. I’m just so scared to apply any pressure … which is pretty pathetic for a cammy.

I’m just learning cammy and I can completely agree with how you feel kikoo. If you play on PSN hit me up (whenever the PSN is back up)and we can play some games together so we can learn together. One thing I’ve been doing a lot of with cammy to deal with fireball spammers is just sitting back to build that one meter. Even if it take you 20 seconds to build one meter its worth it. Smart players shouldn’t throw fireballs at you if they are smart enough to fear cammy’s rush down. They throw a FB you drill through it and you’re in for free to set up your mixups. However I have learned to come to fear the 3 frame Shoryu as well. But over time I’m starting to adjust to it. One thing I’ve started doing i throwing a Meaty c.HP on wakeup. It beats a mashout clean and if they get hit with c.HP, c.MK xx drill and they look at their health, they will definitely reconsider putting that shoryu out there.

You main goal is to instill fear. It really only takes ONE good move to do that. If you can force a player to not do ANYTHING, you win. But it starts with stopping them from pressing buttons. You only do that by punishing them for doing it. If they mashout and it works, they WILL try it again. First you take their mashout from them, then you take their crouch tech/grab from them…then you WIN THE INTERNET.

Or so thats How I’m starting to approach this matchup. Never fear the DP. If you do you will change your playstyle, which means you’ve lost half the battle. Of course I’m still new to this character…I’ve been sitting in practice mode for the past few days just drilling and drilling…running through typical scenarios trying to find out what I’m doing as opposed to what WORKS. I’ve probably levelled up my Cammy a ridiculous amount. My spacing and footsies are getting really solid and my Execution is moving above 70% with cammy’s higher level combos. I just need to work on my anti airs and I’ll be set. As I said, once the PSN is back up, we can practice and learn together.
