Preferred iteration of fighting game characters?

AE’11 Fei Long
AE’12 Ibuki
3S Ryu

also wanted to say that I think 3s is where they really got Ken right. that’s how he should play in every SF game. every other Ken design, in so much as it differs, is a less optimal Ken.

I prefer CvS2 Ken to 3S Ken any day. Especially in C groove.

ST Ken is the best, hands down (N.Ken minus the Crazy motions). Ever since then he’s been nerfed slowly and consistently down in every game (Alphas, III, EX, IV, etc). The only thing I like about 3S Ken is the Strong-Fierce chain and Shippu Super.

His Knee Bash mixups and Air Tatsu setups are superior to any other tactics/new moves he’s been given in any games since ST. Not to mention Fierce Shoryu hitting on 1st frame which prevents safejumps.

UMvC3 Morrigan
MvC2 Sent

Come to think about it, Morrigan may be the closest thing UMvC3 has to MvC2 Sent.

MvC2 Storm
MSH Blackheart
MSH Thanos
MSHvSF Wolverine

I really enjoy SF3 Ibuki more than SF4 Ibuki.

Maybe not his best iteration, but (vanilla) SFXT Ryu was one of the strongest and most fun versions of him to play.

CvS2 Blanka

3S Ibuki, Makoto, Chun Li (Not joking)
KOF98 Iori, Ralf, EX Mai, Daimon, Terry
KOF02UM: Kyo, King, Kasumi, Yuri, Yamazaki, Mai, Chris
ST Vega
T3 Xiaoyu (WS2 was pretty stupid)
TTT Anna, Yoshimitsu
CVS2 Sakura, Geese, Sagat, Blanka, Kim, Guile, Mai, Rugal, Bison, E.Honda, Iori, and Kyo
T4 Jin
T5/DR Nina, Christie, Devil Jin
T6/BR Lee, Julia, Jin, Heihachi, Armor King
KOF03 Duo Lon (I really miss his rekka mix ups… and his infinites)
KOFXI Gato, Geese, Kula, Adel, EX Kyo
KOFXIII Iori (both versions)

Alpha 1.

You can name any SF character thats in A1, and that version will destroy any other “normal” (Non VS game) version. Chains, they all hit hard, DP doesnt get stuffed as bad, and sweep into hadoken, ect, normal grabs. I mean, j.mk, into ground chain of c.lp, c.lk, c.mk, s.hk is like 40+% no specials. replace the s.hk with any special you’re looking at half damage, Shoryureppa > GGPO. 3S Ken cant even approach that kind of damage with a super art. This is something to consider when you imagine a crossover. If A1 Ken was fighting 3S Ken, the only advantage would be EX air Tatsu VS any forward jump, but even then in A1 j.L attacks stay out, meaning it could possibly stuff the tatsu.

Then A2 braindead CC. GGPO.

Others…

T4 Jin. LOL.

How can you possibly perfer 3S Ibuki when that’s possibly the weakest incarnation of her?

VP Ver 1.03 Lilith, gimme my reflector loop back sugeno! 40% and hard knockdown off 6B or 623B was totally fair

VP Ver 1.05 Natalia, Come and worship at the church of 6A

SFA2 Sakura

Her crossup J.Mk hits both left and right depending on when you time it, it’s literally an ambiguous 50/50. Follow up combo does 10% and Leads to a knockdown so you can set up the crossup again. She also dizzies almost the entire cast in two combos. The only way to escape the crossup is tech when you hit the floor, but she has a lot of ways to punish fast stand.

Her normals are really good. Her fireball is okay. Her anti-air custom combo does 50%.

Do you like playing footsies? Do you like flipping coins? Do you like dead games?

Play A2. Sakura is beast.

I’m salty just thinking about that…

I just liked her in that game for some reason. Simple as that.
I AM fond of AE2012 Ibuki as I used to main her, but I no longer play SSFIV seriously.

Speaking of SF, If I were to mention A3, characters like A-ism Dhalsim and V-ism Akuma come to mind. I do miss Karin as well…

KOF 2003 Robert Garcia

Too awesome to last. IMO the outfit, stance and moveset outclass all other versions. Projectiles with slow start-up but Art of Fighting-like breakneck travel speed are fun. crouching B, f/b+B, special/DM is good. The Haoh Shoko Ken pose and LDM are fittingly stylish.

The only downsides are that his command throw is slow and (IIRC) has poor range, and that his LDM does abysmal damage in combos (despite it being a single-hit move that is comparatively tricky to combo into!). Oh, and I would prefer for his Ryuu Zanshou (“flash kick”) animation to be changed to an upwards-aiming Hien Shippuu Kyaku of sorts.

Tekken 3 Jin is probably my favorite Tekken character and certainly the most efficient Mishima character I’ve ever played.

If only CH WGF didn’t blast your opponent to the other side of the stage. Shouldn’t I be rewarded for scoring a counter hit?

Tekken 4 Jin.

MK9 Kabal, Jax, and Kung Lao

CVS2 Guile is the most fun version of guile there is.
I haven’t been able to pick Guile ever since because no other version is as fun as this one.
