one thing i noticed, during your block string you go for cr.lp -> cr.hk
should you do s.lp there? it gives at least 1 frame more advantage (don’t know if that does any difference though, beside it may whiff on smaller characters)

Imo you would have won those if you knew about DeeJay’s hitbox : looks like cr.mp>lk.tatsu will make the st.lk whiff afterward…that’s even worse than Blanka :shake:
Also this is recurrent to lots of old Sakura players(me included) : we still haven’t fully integrated U2 to our game. You missed lots of opportunies to throw lp.shouoken to U2 in corner after a combo, or just after a lp.shouo AA.

There was one international tournament and one national (the swedish championship).
I don’t think there are any vids of me in the national one.

I think against Louie (Deejay) when I was up close I should have just blocked more during my offense, because he was always tagging on c.mk at the end of his jabstring which is -5 = c.mk punishable.
He was also using lk sobat a lot to escape pressure which is punishable by st.lp, c.mk x hp sho or just a naked c.mk x hp sho.
It’s probably better to use mk shunpu to jump the fireballs because then you’ll have a higher chance of landing it on block while still being at a safe range.
I think the best option as okizeme might be meaty c.lp and confirm if it got blocked or not, there is nothing Deejay can do to beat that meaty c.lp out since sobat has too much startup and upkicks whiff.
It could also be possible for Sakura to stuff aa st.hp with j.hp och j.hk if you time them right, but then they’ll lose to c.hk, but you’re still a lot closer to Deejay, and if deejay doesn’t have u2 then aa c.hk isn’t as dangerous.
Guessing a fireball against Deejay is probably worth it since he prefers to walk backwards to create space for random mk sobats, which means he won’t be able to punish random jumps with ex upkicks.

I’m glad people like the vids, I think I played well in most of them, I missed too many things in the one against Melubas (failed punishment), Louie (confirms, punishment and okizmee) and Yagami (failed tkcs), but otherwise I think I made a solid performance. I’m going to get those promised VRyu vids up tonight or tomorrow!

They didn’t put me on blast afaik, but I might be wrong, I really hate how I failed to punish Claw c.hk so many times though -_-
And the failed cl.hp after blocking his ultra that came out as taunt, not exactly what I needed.

I don’t believe in taunting during tournaments, show the respect towards your opponent that you’d expect him to show you.
Even if he taunted me before I’m not going to taunt back, that’s just not the kind of person I am.

don’t use random ultra (bad habit)
i suggest not jumping (attacking) on gouken (bait his counter with empty jumps though)
also pressure him with Shunpu especially on wake up he is free for lk shunpu pressure.
you can hit him with cr.mk xx hp shou if he us AA Hado if you are near enough to punish the extended hitbox during recovery

Lol if i remember correctly from a vid, didn’t you taunt a Vega after blocking his ultra XD. That was an awesome match, I barely do resets now thanks to you, I’ve still gotta work on hit confirming with Mk to hp shou though hate when I fail and eat a big combo after…

Only the last match of the set, this was probably the closest I got to beating him. At first he was beating me 3 rounds to zip, but every match I did better and better until this one where I was just 1 round from winning. I think I tried too hard to prove I could block/tech his stupid cross up to knockdown combo. The whole thing started as an endless set against one of my gf’s online friends who is just starting out with sakura when this DJ came in. our friend was losing with 3 perfects in a row because he didn’t know how to block crossups at all. Very sad/boring to watch 3 rounds in a row of nothing but crossup j.mk, jab jab sweep. So yea, I was probably trying a little bit too hard to block those shenanigans as if to prove that I could, rather than AA’ing him. I kept whiffing c.lk, i think i should have been going with c.mk after that thing he kept doing… and I kept jumping onto his wakeup upkick too :frowning: might help if I knew the names of what he was doing…

Lots of random ultras in there. I am ashamed of each one. I have no excuse, I was frustrated and pissed and sloppy. Once I botched the input and got a hp shouoken that won a round tho. I don’t mind that so much. c.lk, s.lp, c.lk xx ex shunpu? I have no idea why the hell i was doing that. Can we just pretend I was doing c.hp instead of that c.lk? ugh. I should have just given up. Or set it to 2 rounds, then I’d have won :rofl:

Please review/comment/chastise whatever. I’m at a point where I need to move forward. Also need to learn the Makoto matchup since I, quite obviously, don’t know it. :sad:

Ohhhh damn sorry I never saw that for some reason.

I havent given much advise and i have yet to face much good makoto’s but i hope some of this helps.

Good games overall but you can tell the makoto had more control during the matches. I think since she doesn’t jump as much, more st. roundhouses and cr. mk would help calm her down. Once at an advantage sakura can easily stay back and frustrate makotos with fireballs and zoning.

Makoto’s wake up game is poor so you can crossup or jump roundhouse all day, and stick to meaty combos and mixups rather than lights. Even when you close in and she blocks, keep using lk. shunpu, st.mk, lk. shunpu, cr.hp (for example) and she cannot do anything till its over. If you corner her also, you can use early overheads from a distance or fireball fadc -> overhead get close, carry on the lk. shunpu stuff, when you get a bit of distance, carry on with overheads or roundhouses. From 2:20 in the first video, keep that up :slight_smile:

During her command grabs mash ex. shou ^^ if she messes up, she pays.

Your neutral jump roundhouses and lk punishes are good so keep them up but i think its best to save meter for mix up rather than hp. shou fadc combos (which you missed a bit) agaisnt mak. Hope some of this helped.

These are the only matches he posted (I should get a camera lol) but I hit him with a couple shou fadcs and kept trying them. I wanna get that down; it really helps get in on some people. Plus, I kind of feel dependent on mixups. I’ll keep your tips in mind. Thanks a lot.
