PowerUp Podcast: Midwest FGC and Beyond

PowerUp Podcast Episode #73 is here!

Twintail Fox (Marc Larson) is back after another year of growth and change for the Northern Michigan fighting game community. Last time Marc was on the show he spoke to me about Northern Fights 2011, and I am glad to say that this year he is talking with me about Northern Fights 2012. From what I see I believe Marc is making the right moves to improve not only his tournament series but the Northern Michigan scene as a whole. This is another great example of what good someone can do when they answer the call to establish a local community.

PowerUp Podcast Episode #74 is here!

TFA is back! Well, sort of. It just so happens that not only is AaronS a member of The Fighter’s Alliance but also a prominent member of the Michigan community itself. I wanted to get an update about the Michigan Ranbat series and Michigan Masters tournament series and knew that AaronS would be the man to give me the inside scoop.

Hey, just popping in to say that I’m Aaron Rickle (my tag now is actually addMitt, heh). I’ve been holding the Michigan streams at http://www.twitch.tv/addmitt

Just streamed our ranbats a couple of days ago and it went pretty well  TFA|RZR WeaponsLeft took the win in AE over BananaKen and Alucard, it was pretty hype.

I’m also on Twitter, tweeting whenever I put up new streams or any Michigan news in general, @addMitt

@Aaron: Nice to see you posting in here after the Michigan podcast with AaronS! Keep on going strong.

SOPA and PIPA – Stay Informed and Make a Choice
The worldwide internet strike against SOPA and PIPA has come to a close, but it is important not to let the cause of striking down this legislation fade away. PowerUp did not participate in the Internet blackout of January 18th, but more for lack of time invested than lack of interest. Now I have the time to modify the website and in doing so I have rerouted the main banner image link toGoogle’s information page about the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and PROTECT IP Act (PIPA) bills that are currently under debate in the U.S. Congress.

Obviously myself, Nathan Shields, and the website that I run, PowerUp, are opposed to SOPA and PIPA. However, I will never be bold enough to tell others what to do without first making sure they are informed about a situation or policy. So my message is not to take a stand, not immediately. My message to everyone is to become informed, and then make a choice about the best course of action to take.

For information about the January 18th Internet blackout, please go to: http://sopastrike.com/

It was a very impressive endeavor that should not be forgotten.

It’s never a bad thing to spread the Mortal Kombat love, and that is exactly what will happen over PowerUp 2012 weekend. Flawless Victory, out of Fairfax, Virginia, is coming April 14th.
PowerUp Podcast Episode #76 is here!

Wait, isn’t PU2012 the same weekend? Well yes it is, but no worries because although the timing is unfortunate both events will be working together to manage MK viewership. Enjoy this podcast dedicated to the Mid-Atlantic Kombat group and what they have been doing to grow and improve their community.

The FGC needs a consistent ruleset for Street Fighter x Tekken. CEO Alex Jebailey has taken the initiative to ask the community directly with a poll on the CEO website. Check it out and let your opinion be known!

I think it’s still too early to tell how important Gems are in the whole scheme of things, so I see no problem with either keeping the default gems or not using them at all (which also eliminates all posssibilites of Auto-Block/Auto-Tech/Easy Input abuse). Hopefully the Tournament Patch offers a quick, working alternative that brings Gem Technology into the spotlight.

Gems aren’t too bad as far as I can tell. Ive been trying to break the game with them since launch and haven’t found anything too abusable yet. Autoblock on grapplers is apparently good according to ultradavid but I personally hate it.

There was some talk about easy input gems making grapplers better but I tried that out a good bit and it does make grapplers better if you suck ass at doing SPD motions, otherwise its a fraction of a second difference in inputs.

Does anyone go to the game pazzo events in woodridge IL? I think they’re on fridays, I want to go but kinda weirded out about going they’re not knowing anyone ( i know ).
