Power of Who? - The new Nova Team Building Thread

And his incoming is ass

“EYE OF AGAMOTTO”

Storm airdashes away to safety. Every single time, smh

Nemo’s conversions/combos with a better neutral game/thought process, like Combo’s or Infrit’s, that’s what I would like to see from that team at high-level, sadly there are some impediments, namely Combo’s not-playing anymore, or Infrit’s odd character-crisis-ish thingy he’s going through.

I’m a Moons fanboy, so my cheering for him was assumed. Everyone likes him, I think. All his characters move better on the ground than pretty much anyone else.

Mooooooooooooons

LMAO, I’ll never get over this. Whoever made this up should have a medal

Wow guys, really, so easy bitching about those players who play at absolutely highest level of the game.
I mean really, how can you say about someone he doesn’t play the character right if he is winning so convincingly with it?

If you all know so much better how to use Nova, why he (the bs target) play with the top, and you just ranting around in the forums?

Sorry, that is a good point, Gefen. And Nemo’s really on point in his sets with Justin and Rog that are rather recent.

And I do think finding an opening, random SoV with Strange, and turning that into a momentum shift is a really viable strategy, I make comebacks a lot with it, albeit on random online players who may not know the matchup.

I guess people just like complaining about something, myself included. Though my main lament is just that Combofiend is unable to play, he would be unfathomably good at this point if he was playing Nemo team all this time.

It comes down to this.
Nova/Spencer is boring and sub-optimal. Nemo’s winning with it because he’s a strong player. Doesn’t make it less boring to watch or less weak in theory. The highest-placing Nova players used 2-assist Nova teams.
There are ways to get into FOF loops that don’t require Spencer assist.
Nemo’s team would be awesome if he had an assist that helps him mix up on incoming and help in neutral, namely Vajra or Cold Star.

Also lol@ “convincing,” wonder if you saw Nemo vs. Mike Ross.

Shout outs to Marvelo making it so far this year, chatted with him a bit after Evo and I’m loving the Nova advice I got from him and some of his Nova tech I haven’t seen before, good shit Marvelo.

That’s because you don’t understand why he does it or why it’s working. Same with Nemo. They’re crazy people because they play footsie nova and the general mentality regarding nova is rush down. It’s part of the reason Marvelo gets so much praise too (no offense meant Marv).

Lol. My bad for having my own opinion. Didn’t know someone “playing at a high level” automatically had to equal respect. I’ll keep it in mind next time.

In all seriousness, it takes more than just winning to impress me and to be honest, I would rather watch a player like Moons, Insaynne, or Marvelo lose while playing the way they do than watch Nemo win. Not bitching, not hating…just having my own opinion and my opinion is Nemo is just a nut with combos.

LOL
Well, turns out Nemo beat FChamp and Chris G in a FT20
Time to eat my words lol

EVO THOUGHTS

Thanks for all the encouragement everyone! I played a lot with Fchamp and I knew I could beat him, but I ended up just throwing every game away. Tiny mistakes that ended up costing me the match.

Match 1 - I got an accidental x-factor. It shouldn’t of even gotten to the position where Champ could of made a comeback.
Match 2 - I x-factored Phoenix before I built 3 bars.
Match 3 - I didn’t realize overdrive can hit that far. FML.

Darryn is very good. Unfortunately, his team doesn’t allow Nova to go as ham as he can due to the speed of hawkeye arrows. As far as Marvel footsies are concerned, are you saying I have none because I rushdown? I play Marvel. Take my match with Champ. In the 3rd Game, when it was Nova vs Doom, I tried to stay in midrange to bait a butter gun. Once I saw it I responded with the proper counter. I try to figure out what’s optimal for the matchup. IE: Look at my match with GOA. I never rushed her down. You shouldn’t ever rush Trish down with Nova but with proper spacing you can play the matchup safely.

Nemo is a nut. Pretty much. His style of play is pretty ridiculous and Chris/Champ couldn’t adapt fast enough. He always neutral techs and mashes st.L. Never stops going in. Hence why he lost to a Haggar and almost lost to Mike Ross.

That being said he’s very good. Bolts allow you to go completely fucking crazy offensive. Chris and Champ weren’t ready for his style of Nova. Wait till you see the matches.

I’m thinking if it’s possible to throw after an overdrive

a lot of people pushblocked it so i wasn’t too sure

Phoenix TK overdrive L is -1. Her M version is + and the H version isn’t. Meaning it can be thrown. At the moment of the match, it’s hard to say which was which. So I just avoided hitting buttons to not get frame trapped.

I agree with the assessment of Darryn’s skill. That team is not good, but he is. But mainly his Hawkeye is just absurd, top 3 in the country for sure.

I will try to explain my thoughts about it, it might not be too accurate to the situation but I hope you will get my point at least

let’s say i play rock/paper/scissor with a friend of mine. Now let’s agree (more or less) that if i know the other player playing good, his is perfectly randomizing his hand. So the reaction should be the same.

Now my friend is the annoying kind, he claims that the chances of winning are 33% anyway, so he might as well just do rock all the time and get the same results. Now, I can fight him with beautiful RPS game by perfectly randomizing my hand, calculate stuff etc, but of course it will be silly. All I should do is the ‘Stupid’ strategy of going only paper and have 100% winning rate (until I notice adaptation i.e scissors).

People looking at my plays log only will say I’m bad player (just as my friend actually) using only single simple option. But that just because in my environment this what will get me the best results.

Does this clarify my point any better?

I’ve got no issues with Nemo’s play. If someone plays a character “wrong” but wins orders of magnitude more than those who would declare it as “wrong,” then the questionable factor becomes the declaration, not the play. Saying “Nemo just wins because of his skill” doesn’t support the argument that he plays Nova incorrectly, it destroys it.

I love Eita’s play too, and encountered videos of him long ago as I studied Nova. It cracked me up when Ski said something to the effect of, “Eita isn’t ready for a player of JRosa’s caliber” or something. Silly silly uninformed Ski. That was the most tempted I’ve ever been to gamble on a fighting game. JRosa is leaving breathing proof that MorriDoom is NOT a game-breaking problem. (though in his defense, almost every MorriDoom besides Chris G is too)

Marvelo and Moons are my co-Nova heroes. Both play him “correctly,” so to speak, both have exciting styles, both innovate their own tech and deep team synergies. And of course both have given me chapters worth of sick nova tips on and off the forum. I told a friend that the majority of EVO’s top 16 could just as well win an EVO on a given day, and I’m happy to include Marv and Moons in that club.

/ass kiss

primary mode doesn’t mean it’s one’s exclusive approach. Nor that it’d be matchup insensitive. Heck I was impressed that you took the approach of putting up pulses the last time you played pr rog (ceo I believe it was). A bit stronger on the post pulse follow up game and I think you would have had him.

Looking to team Nova/Zero… the ender should probably be some sort of beam character i presume. Doom probably makes the most sense. How do you guys fell about nova being 2nd? is HST a “safe” dhc or how easy is it to punish?

You can probably play the team in any order. Doom would make most sense as an anchor with Plasma Beam.

Yeah i was afraid of that haha. I’ll mess around with it. as well as task and strange. I despise doom but looks like i should just concede to his ultimate glue status.
