Power Bands For Balance: The Ultimate Placebo Effect

this party is happenin, its no mirage

Well 40% of doctors give placebo medicine on a regular basis and 75% has prescribed it at least once in their career.
90% of statistics are made up on the spot

60% of all people know that.

CA - Power Balance

On their own website it states the shit is bullshit, that is all you need to know.

"In our advertising we stated that Power Balance wristbands improved your strength, balance and flexibility.

We admit that there is no credible scientific evidence that supports our claims and therefore we engaged in misleading conduct in breach of s52 of the Trade Practices Act 1974."

Show your friends that.

Tell me more. I did this with co-workers last night. No one said green hammer but most did say hammer so there must be something to this. I choose green wrench for some reason. One of my bosses chose red drill.

They are already millions of dollars rich, and I bet most people are too lazy to send it back in to get a refund. And if they do send it in for a refund they’ll be waiting for a year to get a damn $30 check

It’s old psych test think that someone taught me ages ago.

You say, “Think of a tool… now think of a color”

“Is it a green hammer?”

8/9 times out of 10 people will say green hammer or maybe wrench. They rarely deviate unless they know it’s a trick and think about it hard enough.

I have no idea why.

That infomercial is stupid. If you look at it again, the tester pulls the fools arm towards him without the band (causing the fool to lose balance). The 2nd take, the tester pushes down on the fools arm towards his center of gravity which of course with a lil help of resistance doesn’t cause the fool to lose balance.

TLDW- doesnt work

but now the dabate of, is it a ripoff? Hard to say.

For the people that believed it worked, it actually worked. So is that worth 30$ TO THEM. Probably so. By this logic, the more expensive it is, the better the placebo effect. LOL But anyway…Should you crush their hopes and feelings by proveing to them that it doesnt work? I dunno i say let them have their fun.

Pretty much my stance on religion too. If some people can use Religion to really and honestly make themselves feel better, then good for them. The power of prayer has been shown to be a great placebo in helping sick people.

It’s so stupid, Sports Science won’t even fuck with it. LOL!!!

I remember a study where Tv dinnners from wal-mart were cooked at a 5-star resturant and given to rich people, most of which didn’t know the difference. Regarding how the meat was perfectly cooked, seasoned well, etc.

The placebo effect here is because they paid a LOT more for something, the EXPECTATION that it be of much higher quality(and better tasting), took priority over their natural senses.

Same here. Customers are fooled by the infomercial and packaging with all the claims on the bands, the price tag probably helps out too, again if we’re willing to pay a decent price for something, we want to BELIEVE its going to turn out worth a damn. They are then hooked by the effect.

That’s my stance on many things as well, as long as it works/benefits you, great. I start having a problem when those people try to force/push their mumbo-jumbo onto me. That gets irritating.

So its ok if someone cooks up a B.S product along with a good number of B.S claims, charges $30 for it, and then makes millions off of fools? Nothing but a big fat placebo?

Companies have been doing it for hundreds of years but still… should be laws behind FALSE product claims.

You just described religion. Also, I bolded the most important part of your post.

There are laws, and companies do get fined/reprimanded/etc. When it comes to unconventional products such as this though, consumers should approach it with a healthy dose of skepticism and do some research/homework before purchasing.

I’ll admit, I bought one… but mainly because of the fact that I’ve been wearing Baller ID bands since my early years in high school and now they are going for 20 bucks on Ebay and are harder to replace.

So, I move on to the next silicone band, but only because I feel naked with out a rubber bracelet on…

So what do people buy these for? I don’t go around saying, “fuck, I’m always falling over, I wish there was some way to keep my balance better”

Your most made me Lol…

Best quote ever.

i thought red drill when i read it on the last page also, no bullshit…

PowerBalance Admits Their Wristbands Are a Scam

Even the company says it’s fake now. Time to show the mall stand this.

Where’s Apoc and Madden9Xwhatever to argue in favor of these bracelets?

Dr. B’s copper bracelets don’t so much restore your balance as they rotate the Earth to compensate for your imbalance.
