I always just go by the rule of figuring out why you lost so you can win later.

i used to play table tennis competitively and there was an older guy who played who was the biggest piece of shit you’ll ever meet. attitude, whiny, gets mad about losing. but he was very good. he is one of the top players in the country and would beat me with little effort.
attitude means nothing, its your skill that counts

if your attitude stops you from improving then it does it fact mean something. now I agree that a persons demeanor doesnt mean anything but thats not what kofiend meant. he’s talking about the mental approach to how a player handles losing and improving

personality and attitude are not the same thing. attitude about the game and attitude towards other players is also not the same thing.

basically exactly what hold dat said.

I’m bad so I only get to play Talk Strike right now. Its still a good game.

Tried to incorporate that 10 moves on wakeup to fight my way out of corners. UOH!

Remembered this topic again and back then thought the trip guard stuff was about air to air nonsense, juggles, anti air’ing with like Chun sweep, distances where a Super won’t fully hit, poor Alex SA2 last grapple after the entire arm elbow Boomerang Raid did hit. Parry stopping forward momentum air to air also something to behold, during divekicks all on your character, then you get no punish, or just the throw after you maybe could’ve if you blocked a very high placed one, now won’t hit - throw whiff = big problem, punished for not changing timings.

“It’s not increase but decrease! hack away at the unessential!”

Philosophy is a search for deeper meaning but in some ways it’s just a bunch of masturbatory language and ideas wrapped up in a fancy package that brings nothing in the ‘real world’. Some people are just simple, pragmatic folks and don’t require very much depth in their lives. Those people will never fully understand this game.

Kofiend has put together a valuable manifesto for a new generation with a lackluster attitude.

I remember coming across that piece quite a while ago and being inspired by it, as I am once again. He efficiently described some of the key ideas that I believe have helped me the most in my fighting game journey, gave me some fresh perspectives, and even emphasized a couple of things that I know are true and necessary to reach the highest level but that I struggle to consistently embrace for whatever reason.

I love thinking about stuff like this, in general and especially when it comes to Street Fighter, because this kind of depth and self-examination coming out of a game so seemingly simple is quite possibly what I love the most about fighting games. It’s all about the journey, maaaan, that quest to dig deeper and grow and learn.

What I think he’s trying to say here is, up close roundhouse doesn’t hit as quickly as max distance roundhouse would. Which was one thing I thought I noticed about this game that made me fall in love with it, gradual hit boxes instead of “PUNCH, MAKE BOX!”

also,

Throw away how you think the game should be played:
Just win. Nobody wants to play “Talk Strike”.

Develop your own “way” for how this game should be played. 3rd Strike is huge and if you want to enjoy it even more, try making your own game out of it. Which also means making your own map. Everyone needs a map, before they’ve learned the lay of the land.

Also, what if you could push an opponent’s sprite for a +1 frame advantage situation.

beautiful post, absolutely silky smooth delicious
