Poporu (Garou/98/other SNK games with no lag)

haha yeahhhh.

If it was tournament, I think if at all possible everyone should try and plug directly into their modems to try and reduce the number of random router problems if at all possible.

I wish we could do this. Please lets try!

I"m in for LB2 tourney XD

haha yeah I’d play too especially if I could get my lee in shape. Though juzoh is always were it’s at.

Kagami, Lee, Kaede, Shigen for me. It’s nice to be able to hit links most of the time online for a change. Hit me up so we can play

It could actually be the EASIEST way. Everybody gets Poporu before the tournament (naturally), before the tournament starts (half an hour or so works), everybody restocks on coins and does a quick game of anything to make their coin number to 3/4 (or manage to get 3/4 coins some other way), everybody meets at the same room, tournament organizer tells the matchups one match at a time (written on paper), double elimination means that everybody NEEDS to lose twice to run out of coins.

For the finals, the last two players lose games on purpose(sp?) quickly to run out of coins and to warmup before the finals, and they both get 5 coins again, and they follow a normal 3 round/2 set finals. Last person with coins win. Anybody that runs out of coins before the finals can leave at any time if they want, but if they want to rejoin to watch, they’ll have to get back in by their own (no asking to wait for them to return).

The plus:

-Set room/lobby where everybody is makes meeting easy
-Matches can be supervised and spectated
-Better quality than Kaillera
-No need for IRC

The not-so-plus:

-Relatively slower (albeit shouldn’t be much)
-Rounds can only be 1 or 3 matches long
-Not being able to do anything other than watch other matches on their PC before they are out
-Needs to get Poporu in advance to enter (not so much a problem though)

What problems?

Actually that’s the reason it wouldn’t work. I guarantee you’d have the hardest time in the world finding people willing to use Poporu. You can’t even get people to log onto IRC (a staple of chatting since the dawn of the Internet) to meet for a match, how are you gonna get someone to download Poporu?

Um, tell them to get it and meet the players at a certain place? There’s a fucking guide for god’s sake! Why the hell would it be hard?

Because people are retarded.
Besides, you need to forge a KSSN to use Poporu, and most people are gonna have a hell of a time doing it on their own.

Oh, yeah. I keep forgetting that ><

And for the KSSN, IIRC Dandy could just post how to get one or, if he can’t, people could just PM him for one.

I heard that the tournament function is somewhat wonky, one on one in KoF, one match fights all the way through. I don’t know for sure, but it’s what I’ve heard.

QFT! It explains a lot.

Anyone here from aust? I’d love to try it out.

If someone really wants to get on and has no idea how to, just PM me, AIM me, MSN me, or get on the IRC channel.

Also you’ll definitely not want to use Poporu’s ACTUAL tournament mode, since it’s balls, but yeah using it for a double-elim tourney shouldn’t be hard.

Also if you have less than 5 coins, you can just start a 1p game -> quit match until you’re out, then refill.

Some people with wireless routers have unplayable matches with other specific people.

I’m having problems playing against everyone on my school connection. Any help?

how does your school connection work? do you use a modem of sorts?

Also video’s idea is perfect! Does anyone know when they would want to do that?

I have no clue how my school connection works. All I know is I connect to the wall >_>.

well then it could be any number of things like packet shaping on the port poporu uses or all sorts of other crazy stuff…

First of all, I want to thank Dandy J for hooking me up with this shit. I can’t believe 90% of the time I play a Korean, that I get less lag than I have with anyone on the west coast on any other online fighter I’ve tried, on anything?! Korea is like 2 timezones farther away than the west coast… Someone needs to steal this netcode and give it to gametap, or create something similar stateside.

Now, I am pretty much a scrub at all games on here, but god damn if I’m not gonna learn at least a couple of them since I finally have VERY playable matches. Right now learning Samurai Showdown IV, as I played II pretty seriously back in the day. Hated III and IV, and actually played V on Kailera for awhile. IV is my only option here, and most of the pokes and baits still work with the characters I know, but the extra stuff will take some time. I kill the Korean scrubs on it easy, the ones that know the newer system wipe the floor with me, FUCK YOU Sogetsu has been a problem, lol. I have the patience to be beaten to learn.

Now as far as KOF games, wich one will you play most, I’m thinking 98 or 2000. Last Blade and Garou I’ve always liked, but never played much at all. Want to learn them, at least until I can get some old school Capcom love at this playability. My name on Poporu is b33r, I have weird hours on, so mostly play Koreans. I will be considered scrub level on all games except for SSIV, for wich I am am low tier. Will raise my ranks on some said games as I learn them.

For now Poporu netcode is GOD tier, and I know some of these games are balanced well. I can’t ask for anything more, as this is the best I’ve ever gotten out here. So new games for an old fart to learn, I did play KOF98 in the arcade a bit, in 98. Happy to have almost lag free most of the time anything at this point.

You guys can beat on me now, but I WILL LEARN, I have the power.

Thank you again Dandy J, (Gametap/Kailera fuck you for not working better for me) I will be around, the scrub that one day will learn the games better and be some comp. Until then, just happy to have games that are playable.

Hey, I just got this. I’d be happy to just play some random games with people. I’m MrDVD on poporu. Warning: I’m extremely scrubby.

Just to remind everyone, if you’re looking for a match, your best bet is to idle in the IRC channel (#poporu on EFnet). Also for anyone new, usually we play in the dark blue tab, 2nd lobby. Look for a room with a funny English title and that’s probably one of us. Though I can’t really promise people are going to be there if you just go on randomly.
