When picking a main, do tiers play a role? Be honest.
1 and 2 sound the same ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
I just don’t go low tier. Other than that I choose characters by their strengths.
First you look at the characters that you like.
Then you pick the one that is the highest in tier out of those.
(if only I could do this)
low tier hero…heh its a curse.
If lose: "well it’s bc I use low tier"
If win: “haha I beat you with low tier”
It’s a win-win situation for your ego!
Picking low tiers just so you have an alibi for losing is weak, picking high tiers just to be more powerful is also weak. Imagine how much more character variety there would be if everyone just picked who they enjoy playing as, regardless of tiers?
imagine theres no tier lists…
its easy if you try…
no tier whores to beat us…
you can finally win with mai…
If I really like a game I eventually gravitate to a character that’s a lot of fun. Sometimes they’re high tier, sometimes they’re not.
For games I play casually or just don’t like that much, I pick a top tier.
Take it away Sanford.

I’ve said it a few times around these parts; if there’s a character I really like that much, I usually end up playing them to get the most enjoyment out of their respective games. Unfortunately for me, many of them tend to me mid or low tier, but I don’t really care. Being able to make Nemesis stomp Wolverine’s teeth in the year 2013 makes me happy.
People that use tiers to judge who to play are dummies. You have to play who YOU think is the most cheap in your heart
I tend to just naturally pick high tiers.
I like effective high offense and those characters are rarely low tier.
while i must admit i done that in my earlier days, A lost is still lost to me. The player is responsible for how they use their tools even if its inferior to your opponent. For example rush punch is one of Balrog best tools, but what does Barog do when rush punch is exploited? That player will more likely adapt.
Once a player picks their character they assume any responsibility that comes with that battle field. When I lose in this scenario i simply take it that i don’t know the match up yet.
Like i said on other threads like this, i pick the characters that i find fun to play regardless their tier position, sometimes they end being top, sometimes they are low.
The thing is that when there is money on the line, you want to maximize your chances of winning, unless you are comfortable with your skills that you are confident that even when you are in theorical disadvantage you can still overcome the odds, picking a weaker character is not ideal.
Also, depending of the game, tier have more impact on how the matchups are played.
There are games where the difference of the Top and the bottom tier characters is really negligible, where others the difference is really abysmal, is not coincidence that you see more character variety on games like VS or GG for example.
This is true, if you are really putting tons of hours in regularly, training against top competition, studying frame data, and think you have a legitimate shot at placing in a tournament…then picking a top tier is the way to go. I don’t think anyone can fault someone for doing this.
Just one of the reasons why those games rock.
Feel the samey way.
I kind of wonder if this poll really had a specific game in mind.
Not my fault that, usually, when a character has dat “ONE TRUE MOVE,” they end up being top tier.
one true move
I have a really big problem when it comes to fighters. I usually go for the heroes that feel and look awesome get into them majorly and start doing well with them, then start looking on the internet to see tier lists for the games I’m playing.
I then starting judging myself for the choices I’ve made. Like for example, I know I’m late to the party, but I’ve picked up SF4:AE like 3 weeks ago as part of the steam sale. I picked up Juri because I’ve always liked the look of her and how she fought. I then started to look round to see where she tiered in the lists. Found out she’s a little below average and actually dropped her for a new character. Since I go full retarded and my mind set from that moment becomes “Well, I’m losing because I’m bad no doubt, but I’m also losing due to her tierlisting”.
I then started to look round for a new fighter to play and found Cammy. Enjoyed her a bit, Looked at her tiering and then found out she’s regarded as cheap, broken and top tier. So I went, “Well Fuck that, I don’t want to become THAT guy. The guy who can’t play so he uses the easiest and cheapest fighter in the game to get easy wins”.
So ONCE again, I looked round for a new fighter to play. This time I’ve settled on Rose and enjoying her. I’ve ONCED AGAIN looked at her tiering and found it’s worse then Juris. I was tempted to ONCE AGAIN move to a new fighter but I just stopped myself, since if I keep doing this, I’m just going to go through the whole roster, have a really shitty time and then quit…
Now I’ve not given a fuck about how she matches, I feel that I’m actually starting to get better as Rose and it feels like it something that I can develop and learn…
So yeah, Tier listing and peoples opinions stupidly effect my choices in fighters a lot more then they should but it’s a mind set I feel hard to break because I feel like I need every leg up I can get because fighting games is my worse genre for games…
