Just wanted to add that you can add pokemon to the selection in GTS even if you have never encountered them by going to the cafes in different towns (NOT IN LUMIOSE, rather in the cafe places that you have to pay to get in to). The people you talk to there will show you a picture of a pokemon, and they will more often than not show you a pokemon that you don’t have in your pokedex. Seeing these pokemon in this way adds them as entries into the GTS so you can select them as an option.
