If you go to smogon, look at the sets and the suggestions on why. Dont stay there long term because they do have elitist pricks like most games. Definitely use the sets to get started and learn the terminology and such. After that stay far away from poketubers like Verlisify and watch people like pokeaim chimpact and shofu.

Math is fun.
Testing that stuff didn’t drain me of any of the fun I had with Pokemon as a kid, if anything it enhanced it.
Then RNG came along and kicked my dog.
Honestly, i dont want to clog up this thread as saitsu will have a coniption, if you really want to learn competitive pokemon go to the other thread. Me, bious, and a few others have no problem teaching you. Just dont listen to po he’s a bad man
Shut the fuck up Mood, and go cry about Bayonetta winning some more Smash tournaments.
Don’t listen to me. Don’t listen to them. Definitely don’t listen to anyone on YouTube. Do your research and come to your own conclusions.
Competitive Pokemon is the greatest oxymoron, and it’s community is highly cancerous.
You really only have the luxury to do that if you truly understand the game and know how systems and mons interact, which isn’t really going to be the case for a new player, or an old player who wants to play competitive the way he plays the story mode (i.e. Po).
Po would be the type of guy who wants to put Magma Rager in his Hearthstone deck and then gets mad when he’s laughed out of the room.

…I wonder. Do any of the Pokemon specific Z items also give stat boosts?
'Cause Pikachu without a light ball and Eevee without anything aren’t very good. But if Eevee’s Z item gave it a speed boost on top of what the Z-move gives it, that’d be neat, since IIRC Baton Pass doesn’t have priority.
I dont think so, i think they’re just stupidly powerful attacks
Talonflame is going to be very fun to play against
Evoboost seems like it would be something more fit for Doubles, because unless it has some crazy priority or some other benefit, you’re never going to get Eevee to survive long enough to use the move in the first place. You’ve got to protect it with something like Follow Me.
This is why people should play Doubles.
That’s what I’d say about Singles nowadays.
The game is clearly being designed around Doubles. You know this, I know this, we all know this, so why keep fighting it?
Because a lot of people find singles more fun still amd everything is still based around singles. They really only do vgc as doubles. Most of the battles in game are singles, even gym leaders and elite 4 are singles.
Doubles is also much faster paced than singles and is more about setting up right off the bat (at least i feel that way, maybe not right) as compared to singles. Switching feels less important in doubles and as such, team synergy feels more important in singles to compete
I just prefer singles honestly

If Game Freak would man up and make the main Single Player game require Doubles too then maybe more people will be inclined to play doubles.

I like Rotations and Singles better than Doubles.

I’d argue that synergy matters much more in Doubles due to things like abilities and moves that affect your partner Pokemon, powerful moves like Earthquake and Surf needing to factor in that they hurt your team if you’re not prepared, and just in general needing a team composition such that mons can work well simultaneously in multiple configurations.
Switching isn’t really a great measure of synergy, but rather your ability to judge bad matchups and dodge them.

I wouldn’t mind. Colosseum and XD: Gale of Darkness did that and I loved both of 'em.

They’re different kind of synergies.
