Just chiming into say that I unfortunately have to agree that Samurott’s design is nothing but wasted potential down to its looks, movepool, and abilities, and Water-only typing. Still, it’s not the worst starter ever at least: that title unfortunately still goes to Meganium’s bland and even more useless ass. Not sure how you fuck up a dinosaur so bad really–even Tropius is more interesting.

I can’t say that like the other two starters that aren’t Rowlet this generation though. Not horrible, but Water/Fairy seal looks far too feminine to me for something that should be supposedly unisex–then again, both Gardevoir and Lopunny had this issue for examples–while Fire/Dark cat’s look just doesn’t really appeal to me since I haven’t been interested in wrestling since I was in elementary school. At least Fire/Dark typing could be interesting if done on the physical side since Houndoom already covers the special side.

Provided that it is Rock/Electric, that still doesn’t seem that great of a typing unless it maybe gets Magnet Rise and the speed to actually use it:

Rock/Electric [Golem-Alola?]
Weak: Water, Grass, Fighting, Ground (x4)
Resist: Normal, Fire, Electric, Poison, Flying (x1/4)
Immune: Paralyze status, Sandstorm damage

I guess that’s not too bad, actually, though stopping Talonflame will be at less of a premium with all of the priority hate that Generation 7 is throwing at us.

…Team Skull might end up being my favorite villain team after all. No “take over/destroy the world” gimmicks* and back to the good 'ol “we’re just bad guys” bit that Team Rocket started. Simple and right to the point.

Plus there’s something about just how goofy/corny the grunts are that’s just awesome

Only thing I’m not really feeling is their themes, but they are catchy and it fits them well…I’ll probably warm up to it when I play through the full game.

*Despite this, Team Plasma was my favorite team for a while since their plot was pretty interesting and woven better into the overall story than the other teams.

The new pokemon center theme doesn’t bode with with me. The basic wild pokemon battle theme is ok. The trainer battle theme sucks.

What happened to the music from gen 1-5? Gen 4 and 5 had incredible soundtracks IMO. In gen 6 they replaced the punchy, crisp sounds with this shitty midi quality synth, and gen 7 seems to be following suit.

I find all the datamined pokemons to be incredibly underwhelming. I didn’t think I could dislike a gen more than gen 6. I appreciate alola forms and the amount of content this game has to offer by by god are these new pokemons fucking UGLY.

They’ll look better in motion. Still model rips never do polygonal characters justice.

This is the first gen where they’ve actually designed the mons with 3D models in mind first and foremost. The designs being strange and alien is an intentional choice due to the tropical setting and the sub-plot with the invading Ultra Beasts.

I agree that the battle themes are little… ehhhh this go around, but everything else musically has been stellar. That said, Gladion’s Theme is fucking awesome.
