I think he means people (real life people) not characters in the game. Since this tournament is 2v2 style and not single person. Meaning the partner of your 2 person team will be chosen at random.
You can choose any character you like… none are banned as far as I know.

Teams chosen randomly is an ultra bad idea, the same good players will reach the top but will have to carry their lower random teammates
Seriously, why? It’s a game of skill, why would a lower player deserve to win if they hit the lottery jackpot and get one of the top players there? Not to mention people who have practiced with their specific team mates have done so for little to no reason. Not to mention we all have mains going into this, what if my random teammate also wants to play the same character I do? One of us will be forced to change, which is awful
Worst of all what if an odd number of people show up?

Maybe some sort of compromise can be reached? Let the guys that already have a team keep their team and the guys that don’t have teams get randomly paired up? Just a thought.
I’m defintely if I don’t work. Will teams still be randomly chosen or do we have to have a partner already? Just want to be clear on that.
