do you mean anti-air? because up triangle has better range, better priority and does more damage for that job.
So I was lucky enough to play a 1v1 today. As far as 1v1 over more players, is that it is a bit more fun, because the camera zooms in on you and you are able to have a better grasp as far where you are in range of your character. It can most definitely be a technical game after playing 1v1, and even more so on a team level. I am not disappointed with the beta, it does get a little stale fighting all kratos’ or Sly’s (I use Sweet Tooth btw). But I am hopeful that the end product will have more substance.
I do agree the camera should be closer or the characters bigger.
Tried some Fat Princess, she’s pretty fun.
I saw a stock mode option at the iam8bit event yesterday, there was also option to play 1v1 but the devs forced us to play 4v4 ffa (which is super lame).
Got to try Ratchet, Jak, Sir Dan. It was pretty interesting but again it was ffa so it felt like a cluster fuck lol.
Haha, yeah. I got the character select glitch just a minute ago, and was forced to play FP. Ironically, might turn out to be my favorite character in the beta >_<
Hey, I might have gotten that too
At one point I was suddenly Kratos, the last character I’d try. I assumed I had messed up at character select.
Reading up on FP… I played without knowing she could charge or mash some moves. Loved the bomb assist (d.C) and the lvl 1 super though.
You don’t always want to send the enemy flying away. Radec can control the air above him fairly well, so you might just want to antiair with u.S in order to go for air pressure, which itself can involve u.T. I mean, you can do u.S, throw up a beam and combo off the beam after they fall into it.
I wish Radec had a groundslam move. I like playing the oki game in 2v2.
d.S is good too since it moves him backwards so you can catch certain tech rolls.
I love this move. You can use it as a tickthrow too. I also use a lot of n.T on wakeup games. You can catch anything they do afterwards with a good guess. Like, if they jump, do u.T. If they roll, throw them. If they block, do it again or mash super.
i’ve had that character select glitch at least ten times so far. i just quit the match lol.
other weird things that happen to me in this game include my opponent hitting me while i have him in hitstun, i sometimes spontaneously “teleport” from one spot in the arena to another, my attacks have really sucky priority while everyone else’s is godlike (i’d be really interested in seeing the hitbox data for this game), sometimes my character takes a long time to spawn, plus really strange things happen when the connection is bad. the game never lags, but it does some spooky things before it disconnects.
btw, fat princess’ charged neutral square is pretty good, but you can’t just throw it out there as scrubby as you want. it seems like it sometimes doesn’t have armor at all. i don’t really think it’s her “go to” move. plus it’s hard to use a neutral move when i’m always trying to face my opponent. “free for all” is especially annoying: radec and kratos own that mode with their ranged attacks.
maybe it’s just because i’ve only played the game for like two days. i used to play super smash bros on the nintendo 64 all the time when i was little, so i like to think i’d be good at this game. oh well. i’ll keep playing since the demo only lasts a week. i also agree about the camera thing.
Air down Triangle shotgun is really good, it’s like 3 frames and does a hard knockdown, great for tech chasing. I personally love just catching scrub rollers with air down Triangle all day. The mine is amazing as placement and as an attack. I usually use it as like a bomb drop attack, and if it happens to miss, it can save your ass. In FFAs, my metagame is to ALWAYS rack up for level 3 and afterwards, get as many level 1s as possible. Sweet Tooth’s level 3 might be the best in the beta, with the ability to rack up to nine kills per activation. Sweet Tooth’s level 2 is terrible, I never use it. In 2v2s, it’s best to focus on getting as many level 1s as possible since it’s not as effective as it is in FFA. My basic combo right now for a guaranteed level 1 is jump Square into level 1. Molotovs are amazing for controlling space, you get more AP when the opponent is getting hit by the flames on the ground. When the opponents are spawning, I charge molotovs and leave em all over the place. I don’t really like this neutral Triangle chainsaw spin, it has too much startup and you can get easily punished if you somebody from behind since the final hit won’t hit them. Oh yeah, his up Circle is great for comboing from pretty much anything, very versatile upward attack. His flamethrower is pretty much useless in FFA, but in 2v2s it’s AMAZING, especially if you’re teaming with a Radec who also has a flamethrower/machine gun for maximum AP infinites (until the IPS kicks in, that is). Shoulder tackle is great for situations where you’re both neutral (ex: stunned from the Hades earthquake). Oh, and for throws, I believe the most optimal throw combo atm is down throw, up Square (uppercut) and forward Triangle (shotgun blast).
Me and the homie just SHITTED on everybody in All-Stars just now. We won like 20 total, 10+ straight games win streak and only 1 loss. And we didn’t just win, we won by a mile. Niggas kept spamming Kratos lvl 3 and STILL couldn’t kill me, I was dodging all of Kratos attacks. I could almost taste the salt. lol
In summary, I LOVE this fuckin game. lol
Dodging is easy, it’s building meter that seems to be an issue for me
Okay, so in this beta, I’ve already determined possible tiers based off 30+ games, all in one night.
- Radec (spam into lvl 3, kill you all twice, twice per game)
- Kratos (combo from just about anywhere, lvl 3 1-shot projectile, attacks cover entire model)
- Sly Cooper (where am I? beating your face, that’s where I am!)
- Fat Princess (her setups are pretty good, and I’ve seen better players with her than with Sweettooth
- Sweettooth (i haz shotgunz, and minez, and FIYAHZ…wewt!!)
- PaRappa (To try and get in, I just gotta belie-dead)
As a PaRappa player, I am saddened by this. Out of ALL the games I played, I only saw one PaRappa victory. It wasn’t me of course (have only placed 2nd and 3rd), but he won by a fluke: I managed to finally land a combo on Kratos, but Radec blew us away, and Kratos got ate by the sea serpent. The other PaRappa preceded to pick up the meter drops, BARELY hit lvl 2, and killed both of them (not me) just before time ran out.
Focusing on only supers killing is what will kill this game, but in the meantime I see only one real issue: lvl 3s that are cinematic (particularly PaRappa’s) do not stop the clock. I can understand if they were to respawn for more kills, but PaRappa gets once good clear, and that’s it.
His lvl 3 is also one of the few reasons he’s so bad compared to the rest of the cast: the rest of the cast can get more than 3 kills off of theirs, but PaRappa CAN’T! Yes, he gets a complete wipe no matter what, but for the most part so do the rest. How many times does someone get a lvl 3 and not wipe? Not very often, and with the rest of the cast getting 4 or more is very possible and happens frequently. PaRappa’s lvl 1 has terrible range, and since supers cannot be done in the air, you can’t punish a jumping opponent with it. The fact that he is SO melee reliant and his range is the shortest of the current cast makes him so inferior to the rest that it’s silly.
Any tips would be nice, but I doubt it would put him on even terms with Radec or Kratos.
Radec has bad matchups, limited recovery options, and fairly bad close-range options when he doesn’t already have momentum.
Sly’s invisibility can still be seen.
Parappa can get in fairly easily, has great movement options, strong supers, combos into super, etc. He also builds more meter than anybody else in the beta.
Sweettooth is good. Combos into super, decent meter gain, decent space control, etc. Nothing fantastic, but not bad.
Kratos is easily the best character in the beta. He can do everything.
Princess is meh.
If you’re getting blown up by Radec, you aren’t thinking. Or blocking. Or moving. Or dodging. Or hitting him. Or doing anything.
I think Radec and Kratos are on the same level as far as quality.
After playing some more the game is pretty fun but weird. The fact that your level 1’s can get stuffed bothers me a bit.
I don’t really like the lvl 3 supers. I think four different lvl 1 supers (could have been like… R2, u.R2, d.R2, f.R2) would have been more interesting.
Like, remove the boring lvl 3 entirely, nerf lvl 2, add 2 more supers.
From the small amount of time I played - Lvl 1s are good but only if you can combo into them effectively, if you have problems then really you should try and use yoru lvl2 because most of those are good for multi kills in Free for all or a couple of kills (pretty much 2 I think) in 1v1. In some cases people have better lvl 2s then lvl1s in other cases i think the lvl1 is better (like fat princess)
LVL3s seem really good early game because people aren’t good at stopping people from leveling up, but will be come less good later on.
Radec seems really strong until people learn to dodge, or at least thats what people I know that play the game more have told me.
I play Radec, and even tho I’ve kicked a lot of ass with him, he’s nowhere near as difficult to beat as people make him out to be. I’ve been beaten a couple times playing as Radec. Most people who complain about Radec generally suck at the game. Dodge him from long range and get in close, he’s weak in close range combat.
Geez people, he doesn’t need any nerfs or buffs, it’s common sense to defeat Radec
Some of the Radec’s i’ve seen online all they do is spam from long range til they build the meter they wish. The worst part about it is that some people are too retarded to even realize it >:( . That’s why I ocassionally try to get in on him til they decide to fight up close unless I feel someone else has the lead.
Oh and Kratos is a dick. That is all.
