It appears to me that the pay out structure @ Play is not fair to the players (us). Here is why I say that. If they charge $15 per person to play and the turn out is 15 people, like yesterday, then the pot is equal to $225 total. Now with that $225, Play allocates only the top 3 players with prizes of gift cards and Play credits. Oh, and those gift cards are small compared to how much the house is raking in off the top. IIRC 1st is a $50 gift card, 2nd is a $20, and 3rd is a $10 + Play credits respectively.
Regular tournament payout structure dictates that payouts are close to 70%/20%/10%. But I know this is not a regular tournament since Play is being nice enough to host it for us at the mall. Just the same, what Play is taking off the top (the money they are keeping vs what the players win), is not logical or fair at all.
Even if Play took 50% of the original pot ($225), and then structured the tournament in a 70%/20%/10% cash pay out fashion, I could see that being a lot more logical and un-rape like to the players then what they do now.
In conclusion, if Play wants to charge us $15 a person and take that much off the top then I will no longer be going to tournaments there. Play isn’t the only place to play video games let alone hold a tournament in SSFIV. They need to readjust their business aspirations when it comes to future SSFIV tournaments and any video game “tournaments” in general.
The people who work at Play are very nice and cool but I’m just sayin’ homie.

No offense to PLAY, but after hearing this, I will not be attending. The pay out isn’t nearly close enough to perpetuate me to drop $20 in gas round trip, and $15 entry ($35) just to have a shot at winning $30 (-$5 even if I got 1st place) on a gift card that I can only use at PLAY.
Pretty much forcing me to use it immediately or it would go to waste my $35. I win more money by not attending/entering.
I hope this is all information you can take in without it being seen as destructive, but rather as constructive.
Yea, I agree with superjoe about Play. When I first talked to the manager about getting ssf4 tournament going, he was cool bout listening and I tried to tell him the best way to run it, so he said he would run it by his boss and call me back. Well he never called me back and basically said he would run tournaments like he runs the cod:mw2 tournaments. They pretty much bout all business plus they charge a big fee just to play per hour. So yea $30 gift card for 1st place is pretty low to me especially since u pay $15 cash to get in.
Yeah, I paid $5 for a half hour before the tournament just to test the lag on the tvs (I could barely notice the lag btw, nice tvs,) $15 to enter, I was a little disappointed with breaking even. If I wouldn’t have paid for the half hour, I still only would have come up $5 for a tourney I paid $15 to enter, pretty bad. I feel sorry for the dude who third and didn’t even make his entry back, that is shameful.
It was a pretty venue, the people working there were cool and I do appreciate them running the event, but I won’t go back till they fix the payout structure, and I recommend no one else go either, because this shit is robbery.

My Olympia buddies were telling me about this place & i was like $15? That’s not worth it…They mention next tournament you win a gaming chair…No love for HDR either…
They did mention free pizza/drinks though…If its all you can eat it might be worth it…

I didn’t mean to imply that. I got there well before the tourney started and wanted to try out the setup to see if it was even worth staying, which it was. About a half hour or so before the tourney they had the shit on free play or whatever, if I had known that I would have just waited. Whatever though, I’m not tripping about that because that’s the regular rate, and like I said I thought the venue was pretty nice and I liked the people there, but the payout structure is hella crooked. That’s the only problem, really.
My brother and I r still thinking about it, but it would be nice if it was $5 off because we all know $15 is a lot.
