Now that I’m level 50 this game’s actually a lot more fun because I don’t care about my score at the end of the match anymore. There’s so much opportunity for griefing in this game, it’s the most productive salt mine I’ve ever played. I’m just stealing kills to piss people off now, not even for points. Or just do the rope a dope against a dude for half a minute, and then when he goes for that obvious throw, throw him first and run away just to piss him off. Sniper rifles and the electric clamp mines are great too.

So just wondering, what are people’s general opinions on Max? Just unlocked him and want to give him a try. Just wondering how he compares to the rest so I know what I’m in for.

Short summary:

He’s the Akuma to Leo’s Ryu, if Akuma was slower and more of a tank-ish version of Ryu instead of faster and a glass cannon.

He’s like Leo but:

Other than that just about every aspect is the same except animations, they even have the same delayed string.

Thanks for the heads up. Just tried him out. That dash attack and his counter are pretty sweet. Definitely have a lot of fun using him. Got to say though he seem pretty light on the combos. I tried the juggles in Boodendorf’s combo vids and just couldn’t get them to work right. He somehow got a stun at the end of Max’s KWL string while every time I do it it knocks the guy away. Another juggle has him doing a rising attack into air weak ending with a J.KWH. I can’t figure out the timing. The dummy tech rolls out of the way every time I try it.

Yo the stun at the end is probably just an elemental effect. You need to be at Level 3 in order to do those. When you kill nigs you level up. You level up in the following modes: Tag Battle, Battle Royale, Team Death Match, Capture the flag, and 3 team Capture the flag.

Dummies can tech out of things humans cant, its a bug or something, no human can tech out of the rising H into J.KWH combos that just about every character has.

The basic Max combo, the one you need to know and the only one you actually ever need to do against randoms, you can be a little flexible with this is you want.

Does a lot of damage:

(insert whatever light string you were mashing out) delayed L, H, H, rising H, L, (delay a milisecond, or whatever, you’re going to have to get a feel for the timing of this) L, (you land here) foward + L(and another L if you’re at a wall, this sometimes doesn’t combo in open space, not consistent), KWL, KWL, KWL, KWL.

Though if you don’t want to depend on the delayed L string or you just want to punish whiffs or catch people from behind in a guaranteed combo i’d start off with H, rising H instead of the delayed string.

Better one:
(delayed weak, strong) / (lv1 counter) strong, AA, air weak, air weak, strong (then either one of those paths: ) => weak, lean attacj, weak, ground KWL*4
=> AA, (air weak if you want to do a true combo), air kwh

Damn I suck at this game. What am I supposed to do when people keep holding their own flags in CTF? Grab them?

They’re completely vulnerable when holding a flag but can still tech throw, so go with a kwh attack, one with animation if possible.

I tried to launch them but it wasn’t working. Was I lagging or do they have some kind of armor during flag swings?

First one I can do fine. I saw that second one in the Waters of Milvalen but I have a hell of a time pulling off the J.KWH. In practice against a tech rolling dummy I’ve only ended a combo that way maybe a handful of times and only off one strong launcher. I don’t know if it’s a timing thing or hitting the air weak at a certain point in the jump arc or what have you. All I know is what usually happens is the dummy rolls away just a hair before I hit the ground. Any tips?

CPU can roll out of combos that players cannot. The combo you’re trying to do will work on any player flawlessly.
