Pinball Arcade Controllers. Plungers and Analog Hook up

This doesn’t really make any sense. The physical travel of each shouldn’t make any difference in any way that matters. The trigger has some sort of range of voltage it gives off, call it TrigMax through TrigMin. If your converting your plunger to an analog signal with a digitial potentiometer, then you should be able to easily control the output so the plunger is one of those when at rest, and the other with fully pulled. Without info on how its set up, I can’t be any more helpful than that tho.

Very cool dwilday. For my pinball stick, I am going to go with the pot slider. Just started ordering parts. For the left analog for tilt I am going to try using a PSP analog joystick off of ebay, and if all else fails, I always wanted a reason to order an LS-64. I was going to make a small area in the middle of the stick for the ball top and make the joystick have two parts so I could push the entire box around. Look forward to my prototype experiments to be coming over the course of the summer.
You playing Williams Pinball HOF?

Well after sitting incomplete in my garage since the end of summer, I finally got the time during this winter break to get this working. I updated the first post. I’m probably going to update the first post later with semi tutorials on hacking the plunger, or hooking up the PSP analog.

Pinball Controller

Hello! I was wondering if you make mods like this pinball controller for people and if I could possibly get one? I play Pinball Hall of Fame and Finball FX 2 and I would love one of these! Get back to me if you can/want. Thanks!

bookmarked…very nice sir

I second that.

Well… I’ve wanted to make a pinball controller for a while. What RTD did is amazing. I have one of his mini sticks. Its very good as well.

I wanted to mod one of my existing joystick to have buttons on the side similar to an arcade but then I would lose out on nudging and analog launcher control. The analog launcher isn’t as important to me as analog nudging.

I initially had an idea to take my xbox 360 HRAP joystick and mod it with side buttons. Then I would mount that gyroscope xbox controller mod. Then I would install slippery feet so it can slide on a table when nudged. Then hopefully if everything worked out it would sense lighter and harder nudges appropriately.

I don’t know if that motion sensor would work in this setup though.

What do you guys think?

Sorry guys I’m not doing this mod for anybody because it is a very difficult one. One of the things that concerns me is the shaky reliability of the Madcatz 4716. Some days I get random analog stick movements and then they go away. Also the slide pot is a very hard part to find.

Holy hell. This is the greatest thread I’ve somehow never seen. Could someone less technically inclined use the PSP stick for both the nudge and plunger? I know it’d take away from the overall authenticity.

Yeah if you get two psp sticks that will do ya.

I think I saw a slide pot on Spark fun, although there site is down for maintenance (PSN any one?) I can not provide a link to the exact item’s page.

Still it is a very difficult mod, most modders will not attempt this for a customer till they are confidant they can reproduce the mod with quality results. For Xbox 360 PCBs you choices are painfully limited when it comes to custom arcade sticks.
