SFV has started to bore me to tears and the reasons are similar to why I hate watching Melee competitively. SFV, like competitive Melee, tried to put everyone on an even playing field by removing a lot of what makes the title fun. Ultra for all of its flaws was great to watch because anything could happen and characters had way more tools at their disposal. SFV fixed the major problems with Ultra (FADC, Ultras, vortexes) but in the process didn’t do anything to make it as exciting. I’d honestly rather have 3S or ST back as the main event.
Melee without items and random stages, falls into the same category: boring.

I have a few friends who refuse to play Smash with me unless it’s by tournament rules. Even when we play with 4 players they want the items off.

Mostly because items are bullshit and a lot of people dont like the bullshit they bring. I’ve played with casuals who don’t like items. They can be fun in small doses but god damn sometimes they’re complete bullshit

Meh, I’m fine with all items but I will hear cases on Bomb-ombs, Stars, and Mallets.
Everything else is cool. Just set it to low so every 3 seconds a new item doesn’t appear.
We’ve actually tried it. I’m not going to go into much detail but you basically start removing items until it’s down to fire flower and mr. Saturn and then you ask, why bother with these at all. It’s too subjective to determine what items can stay on and what you turn off so we just keep them off
