Chain throws absolutely rape some characters. Doesn’t work on a good number of people though. I can only get maybe two on ROB before her can fair me. What I’ve been doing instead is dthrow > fsmash at low percents. Not sure if it really combos, but it works on the ROB I play, and he seems to be pretty good at breaking out of my chain throws.

Not sure about Falco’s matchups, but I would say they depend a lot on whether he can chain throw the character. I haven’t done much with laser locking - it seems situational and difficult to plan for.

Also, his shine seems almost useless to me asides from reflecting projectiles. If you don’t hit at near max range, it seems as if your opponent will recover even faster than you do from the move. I really miss the jump cancellable one from melee but meh.

Falcos reflector is still good, I find that it actually causes a lot of people to trip. So yeah I like to throw out a shine or two, move in with dash + A and take if from there with either a Down + smash or some AAA combo jazz.

Shine is a really good poke, but that’s about all I’ve give to it. If he had Fox’s shine he would be too rape

Being a really good poke is good enough though, innit?

It is, the thing is the old one was better

And it’s not really good either, just alright

Man I was playing a Metaknight at a tournament today with Falco. My god. I just played keep away lazers and punished him with spotdodge to dsmash, dairs, and poked. He couldn’t get at me, felt good

Meh, the old one made him borken though, while this one is a useful keep-away move that can trip and is quite annoying to get around if used wisely.

Good to hear about the Meta though.

It’s ok, but if you do it anywhere but max range you’ll get punished for it. It trips but not often and your recovery from it won’t put you in any frame advantage. It’s ok, but nothing amazing, I think of it like Twelve’s s.HK from 3s material

SHDL when timed right is also amazing, high enough to hit Ganon while the second is low enough to get Kirby, essential skill

Just picking up Falco as a secondary to DK. Using him to cover DK’s weaker matches, namely DDD, Falco, Olimar. Any advice vs. those 3?

I’m liking his Nair, it’s a decent approach and sets up tilts well. Trying not to Shine so much seeing as it’s punishable. What’s Falco’s best approach?

Falco’s best approach is lazers (Nair can be punished pretty easily). You’ll either force them to shield, hit them, or they’ll air/spot dodge it, and you can get them pretty good after all of these. It’s the best way to set up low percent chain grabs which you can do to all three of those characters up into like 50% and then follow it with an usmash

Falco plays off the lazers stupid well, no lag, you can follow up with almost everything

Against Dedede you can lazer lock out of a fthrow at a really low percent, I forget what it is, Dedede can’t chaingrab you. Dedede can’t out projectile you so you can just let him approach. Stay out of his grab range and in the air, dairs and such

Olimar can out projectile you but you can gimp kill him really easy off of chaingrabs, bair’s, whatever you want

Falco is even, just be better at your lazer game

Kill moves are spotdodge to dsmash, usmash, fsmash, bair, uair, dair (spike). It takes a while for the guy to kill, just play a pressure and defensive lazer game

You’re really only giving his shine credit as a “good poke?”

You know it reflects stuff too right?

Obviously, but play a good T.Link and it won’t even matter, they’ll just keep the pressure on you hard and punish from the lag

It’s really not that good

I agree. If it hits anywhere besides max range, I think it’s punishable even on hit. The timing on reflecting things is pretty loose, though. It’ll pretty much reflect stuff throughout the entire move’s duration, which is nice.

Nope.:razzy:

Anyone who uses falco here get on irc so we can have some mirrors cuz it seems i’m the only one who uses him.

Falco is the hardest character to use online:sad:

Yeah, I could be wrong about that. The Wii I used to play on stopped reading discs recently, so I can’t really check. It did seem like the opponent recovered faster than Falco did, though.

This is what I want to know.

Falco seems to stomp the shit out of ROB, he just seems able to deal with everything ROB has (ROB being my main). I’ve used Mart with a fair degree of success against Falco, but honestly it seems like Marth just brings the fight to more even grounds.

Is there anywhere where Falco is straight disadvantaged?

Think Game & Watch and Zelda. Falco has a lot of matchups where he’s simply 50-50.

Also Metaknight, but that’s not really a surprise. He’s metaknight ffs.

i heard falco loses to GnW? how so? i heard it’s one of his worst matchups

a little thing i like to do is run towards them, short hop back and lazer. pisses people off. if they try to f-smash/throw you, they’ll miss because you jump back and you can grab them after the lazer hits. if they spot dodge, do it again and react accordingly

Falco is the most nerfed character online he is shit tier.

That being said I’ll play some gnw’s online from AIB when I get the chance and let yall know how it goes.

BTW for those that didn’t know you can cancel dash attack into usmash,

ALL of this is a must read

Falco is the fucking king of combos but is an extremely difficult character to use because of the technicality and timing he requires so it takes a while to use him effectively. The links in the link I provided will make you 100x better a falco player:tup:

he is one of the combo charaters in brawl, I give you that with some combos leading up to 50% damage, but don’t forget ZSS, who can combo off downsmash, fd-tilt up B, up tilt, neutral air, B, and running A. The first 2 I mentioned can be led into huge combos if timed right, and the third has stupid reach and will give you some nice dmg.

as far as playing with falco, so far most ppl have been saying to be a campy whore which does work, but its annoying and makes ppl look at you like this :< , other approch options other than the risky neutral air which is good, back air hits in front of falco a little is fast and has really high priority. a properly lined up forward air is a pretty good for an anti air approach too.

Btw great guide.

Looking back at the first post, I remember saying the same thing about falco, but after a few months of maing the whole roster LMAO, I fond him to be an awesome character. I still need some more work in developing some techniqs with him.
