Persona 4: The Ultimate in Mayonaka Arena

I’m picking him cause he’s a boxer and I’m a boxer.
Put two and two together and you have mecha-hiko!!

AN UNSTOPPABLE ANIME MACHINE!!

Yukiko 'cause waifu.

Just kidding, I like zoning, lockdown, and unblockables. Seems like an obvious fit. Will also toy around with Slab 'cause I love those giants.

I also realize I really hate all this nonsense gimmicky shit everyone has, like status effects or whatever.

Not looking forward to that.

They probably threw in those specific status alignments to try to stay true to the rpg roots (such as the “all out rushes” and " 1 more") as close as possible while at the same time trying to create some synergy to make it work in a fighter. Some characters (such as Yosuke or Kanji)rely on giving negative status alignments to turn the tide to their favor.

although to be fair I don’t think Yu has any gimmicks since he is the “jack of all trades” character

I think Skullgirls used some of this recently with Valentine poison needles that does certain negative alignments

Personally, I thought it added more depth in the game.

My only suggestion for this game would be to add an “EX alternative”. Different move set / super (I believe GG did this, it was fun)
It made each character more in-depth.

She seems like she might be too technical for my play style, but I’m still planning on maining Naoto.

I might sub Elizabeth sometimes though, since she has Thanatos.

Most P4:A status effects have been present in fighting games for ~15 years (Poison and Confusion being rather common). The only ones unique (?) to this game are Rage (which reminds me of playing Upper grade in Samurai Shodown III) and Fear (which indeed seems quite fearsome, as it raises the risk factor of both offense and defense on part of the recipient).
Personally, I love buffs and debuffs - just look at some of my most played characters: Johnny, Boyd, Kamui, Zenia, Weiss, Hakan, Tsubaki, Valentine and probably Sasara, Akihiko and Labrys.

It’s fine when it’s part of one character’s gameplay, forcing it on everyone else is rather annoying.

Not everyone has every status effect. A decent amount specialize in one. Hell, some characters don’t use any.

For example, Akihiko and Kanji focus on Paralysis.

Elizabeth somewhat focuses on a lot of them but her case is special.

Long story short, you’re overreacting.

I don’t see how it’s forcing it on everyone when they’ve always been made with it in mind and it sticks to the characters roots.

why worry about status alignments?

just simply open chests or do this before your fights and your good :nunchuck:

They need their cross-dressing costumes for dlc since we getting glasses

waifu…?

dunno man, i feel that its not forced at all, plus as others have said, it adds depth, not to mention that help to broad the differences on gamplay and strategy between the characters

it wouldnt be chibi otherwise :stuck_out_tongue:

Thank you.

Whoops, I’m late

I don’t think it’s really “forced” upon anyone. For some characters it’s more vital than others, and most of the time it’s in places where it makes sense.
I really like Teddie’s for example. They create a lot of interesting scenarios.

I’d rather choose the status I want my character to have instead of being stuck with it.

I mean if some of the characters don’t even use them what’s the point of them being there?

you want something akin to arcana dont you?,

the thing here is that they are trying to stay close to the source material, where every character has some kind of elemental magic that they can use, kanji uses lighting, yukiko uses fire, etc.
so they try to implement those magic abilities on their gameplay, and imo they did a good job, because right now it adds to their game and complements it

lol, you know how it works man, some tools are more used than others when the game evolves, this is not the first game where you see that some of the tools of a character are underused and it wouldnt be the last; plus its better that they arent so dependant from them because otherwise the characters could be ending very unidimensional, gameplan speaking

Because it’s part of their playstyle and part of their character. If you did Marin Karin and they got paralysed, it wouldn’t make sense. However, with Kanji being a grappler with an electric based persona, it makes sense that he can do moves that induce paralysis where they are not able to jump.

What you’re essentially asking is ‘why can’t i choose what special moves i want?’. It just doesn’t work like that and the game certainly isn’t balanced around that fact.
