when you posted pics of her a few years back I thought she was mixed, lol.
Black people also complained when she married her first husband who was also biracial. People back then were upset at both of them for choosing biracial (lighter skinned) partners because they thought they were too good for black people, lol. You can never please everyone.
Garcell bauvais (spelling?) is the same age as Halle but I doubt she would ever say that.
she’s also haitian, tho, born to parents that were a lawyer and a nurse (meaning that they had some sort of wealth…especially to come over here)
vs halle being born to a mom that was a nurse and a dad that was a bus driver…in cleveland.
exactly.
I always had trouble with AA, because I’m Canadian. I felt dumb calling them African-Canadian, and I felt racist calling them black
You should’ve seen the hate Garcelle Beauvais got when it was discovered that her affluent white husband had been cheating on her for years. When it comes to race, bigots will always hunt for reasoning to support their backward claims, even though it’s indiscretions every group does.
why would Bauvais being richer mean anything?
her background and her economic status mean everything when it comes to this topic.
to be more clear, it shapes ones views, plays a part in their experiences in life, etc.
I know a lot of people were happy because they thought she was flaunting her white husbands and mixed race kids at every given opportunity to get at black men, lol. I dont know why people would be angry at her, she didnt know her husband was cheating for all those years.
because of history.
ppl feel like when some ppl make it they “forget where they came from.”
and don’t remember it until some bullshit happens…like this halle thing or tiger or oj or _______.
it doesn’t make it right but it is what it is.
as a Kid… I didnt understand why Sinbad or mariah carrey were black…
lol… they jus really light
sucks when stereotypes are applied… especially by your own peeps
When applying to school or to a job, the first thing they see is your application/name. The last thing I want is for my kid to possibly lose an oppurtunity because they couldn’t get passed that step. When someone sees my kid, they will think he’s black, and its fine, because seeing someone as black - does not mean your not open to a true first impression. It means you instantly get visions in your head of what to expect, but upon contact that can instantly be broken (thats where times have changed). I want Nathan to get thru the application process without any hiccups by any possible prejudices and let him sell himself in person. I know it can sound kinda weird how I wrote because I srota type faster than I think on SRK, but that should spell it out a bit better my point on that.
The last part was tacked on completley seperate and worded poorly (hey I admit my errors). My point was that its not really limited to blacks. There are ‘typically’ two/three flavors of hispanics - Native American, ‘stereo typical’, and ‘white featured’. The first two, no matter what they are mixed with, if they ‘look’ like that, then they get stereotyped the same way, but the latter ‘grouping’ is not subject to the same issues/prejudices (off looks, here is where name can put it back in - say the name Jesus or Sanchez).
How da fuck can you (in good sense) stereotypically name your child (subconscious choice or not). The parents would have to be fucking idiots e.g. white couple - billy joe bob or black couple - shaniqua, shinanae, shaaquanda or some shit. I guess its all down to the parents prerogative. Im not sure how it is over in the US but over here we have pretty normal/boring/based on biblical names.
People are sending out petitions over that commercial, I’m like yeah it’s fucked up, but they have been making commercials like that for years, why so angry now?
It actually took me a second after she hit her to get why it there was a commotion about this. It’s funny how I need to learn racism just to be a part of the status quo. :bluu:
Man the Goobacks may not have jobs, but at least they don’t have to deal with this BS.
Chee-kun Sandweexch!
The ones I know don’t like to be called african american or even black. They like to be identified by where they are from.
What about that State Farm commercial where the black chick is super duper bitchy?
Is that one racist too?
It’s racist in the fact that it stereotypes black women as all being mean and emasculating . But again it’s been going on for so long I sadly don’t see it changing, it’s bull but they, media; always stereotype races in commercials and movies.
I’m not understanding what’s going on here. Does the kid’s race have something to do with the custody battle or something?
