PC Arena's $1,000 monthly series

We’re moving to Hollywood Park Casino for WNF, but I’m confident we’ll play here on other days.

Stay tuned!

GGs Mexiwont, hope you had a good time!

Keep playing Fuerte… you probably annoy a lot of people, but at the same time you’re teaching all of us how to play against him. I can’t remember the last time a good Fuerte came to an event I was at, lol.

Edit: I just wanted to let some of the WNF regulars know, that I’m willing to carpool up to 3 people down to Inglewood next week for WNF, considering I know it’s a long ass drive for some people… I live in La Mirada, and it’s only about 30 minutes from my place. If the driving distance is too much for you, and you need a ride, send me a PM and we’ll talk! The more the merrier, and even if you can only make it next week I definitely think this is the week to go… sounds like something pretty awesome, and we should try and support as much as we can yeah? Let me know and hopefully see you there!

Thanks for the games. I don’t have much fighting game experience, so it was great to get some idea of all the areas I need the most improvement in. Won’t be able to make next week, but I look forward to playing you guys again and leveling up my game.

mexiwont, thanks for showing your Fuerte off, it was good to see how you handled match ups.
bambooboy, your cammy is amazing, I had thought that was a good match up for fuerte.
that alex valle kid seems to have potential too.

Haha, thanks for that but from my matches with Mexiwont, it felt like it was in Cammy’s favor. My reactions just suck = P

Alex: Yeah man, I had a good time playing you guys. It was nice to finally meet you and some of the socal scene, definitely chill dudes.

ETR: A lot of people tend to get annoyed because they’ll have their mind set on a certain way to contain some of Fuerte’s stuff but get caught by some of his other setups/tricks. Sometimes I’ll beat someone who doesn’t respect the character, never took the time to learn the match up and thinks they shouldn’t lose to such a gimmick character, that’s when some REAL saltiness comes out. All of that however only encourages me to continue playing him.

sinix, Masataka: I don’t know, it used to be in Cammy’s favor but the tweaks made to her upper open up more windows on Cammy’s wake-up for Fuerte and it seems less useful altogether. That along with U2 make a pretty big difference. I definitely don’t fear that match up anymore but I’d say it’s either 5/5 or 5.5/4.5 in Cammy’s favor, IA dive-kicks (which can be killer against a lot of Fuerte’s options) and her ability to punish from distance, apply pressure and hit hard still makes this match up rough.

GGs, I had to get you back in that FT5. I usually deal with that match up decently… i got frustrated in the round robin because it was so close… but the FT5 let me cool off and focus on that match better.

hmm, well I checked twice 'n asked both of my employees 'n here’s the breakdown as of the point totals from July:

I’m gone the whole day, but every time I show up late night I always ask my employees if you guys showed up 'n it’s always the same report.

I know you guys have options on where to gather up 'n play SSF4, and I’d like for my shop to be one of 'em… which is why I added a big incentive to reward attendance, however aside from Valle’s WNF event, I got ~4 hits the whole month of July.

Don’t get me wrong, I have no problem runnin’ this tournament for my local customers seeing as they’re the reason why I’m in business. (they pay my rent) However they’re not the reason why this tournament exists in the first place.

So there’s obviously something wrong as to why nobody shows up. If it’s just based on personal preference, then I commend the dedication behind it seeing as that’s worth more than $1k apparently.

Either way I find it very odd that none of you SRK guys made the cut to enter this tournament.

8 points - 4 WNF events = 4

so to recap July… with WNF aside, 4 additional days would make the cut… which nobody was able to meet. shrugs

Was the concept something you guys just didn’t like? Or was there something else?
Either way I’m pretty confused.

so do u need more than 4 points to enter the tournament?

For me personally it’s because im currently unemployed and cannot afford to commute over and spend 5 bucks. (im that poor right now). Also a lot of competitive players kinda take it easy during the weeks that follow evo. Like i mentioned before, i’ll be going to csuf in the fall, so expect me there a couple times a week once that starts up. especially because i won’t be able to go to WNF in the fall.

im glad you’re getting lots of local peeps to show up!

Will, from a business standpoint i think you could get a really similar affect using the same system and dropping the pot to 500. Maybe push it back to 1k if you start getting more traffic from top players and stuff. From a business standpoint 1k is just too much. I really appreciate what you’re doing for the community; i just don’t want to see you lose the lan center lol. Thank you for your effort. Honestly your venue is by far one of my favorites.

Also I’m learning blazblue, so if you have a copy there i’ll probably be playing that mostly when i stop by after class =]

edit: ya andy only top 32 are eligible, and there are over 32 people with 8 or more points

What if these top 32 don’t show up? I don’t know, every time I tried to post in this thread, and get some people to come by I had 2-3 people come maximum. I know you’re trying to help the community, but it’s been hard finding support man… it really has.

With all these people who show up all the time… did they attend WNF? Didn’t they not qualify if they didn’t? I thought that was how it worked.

Idk, I can’t believe 6 points wasn’t enough for an entire month, especially all of us with full time jobs, and full time school… that’s what makes it difficult. I feel like I’m at a bit of a disadvantage because I don’t have as much free time as the young kids that show up all the time. =/

the only thing i find odd is that this many people would session this often at lan center and NOT attend WNF. I don’t think i’ve met any of the players that qualified lol, or heard of any of them for that matter.

My thoughts exactly.

“4) You must attend Wednesday Night Fights to be eligible.”

I think this still applies, at least for this month right? Shouldn’t that mean the top 32 of the blue list quality for the tournament?

i didn’t notice that.

@will - what do you think about allowing wnf players with 4 or 5+ points enter, since one of the stipulations to qualifying was to attend WNF?

That’s what I was thinking! I know I’m a bit biased, but anyone with 4+ has at least been to WNF once (If not for the entire month) and/or they made an effort to be there on an off day and help out the community.

at this rate… no ones qualified… or those who are qualified arent even going to enter
I only have 2 points even though i went to 3 WNF at pc arena… so am i even qualified to enter or do i have to wait for every1 thats qualified to showup and see if theres any room for me

First of all, let me take the time to thank you for trying to promote the idea in such a unique and generous manner.

As for the attendance, I think a lot of it was unfortunately Evo burn-out. There were a bunch of people who showed up for the birthday event, but sides that, I don’t think anyone really had to energy to organize a meeting at the venue. Without a guranteed gathering, I think many of us are being passive, and waiting til someone takes the initiative to organize something. That is our fault as a community, but I think the location is less then ideal for a few more of our energetic members, who would organize these things. If you could get any of your regular SF players to post here that they’re showing up on a day, I think you’d get a few people to show up to play against some new blood.

Also, how’s it for SF on non WFN days? I know the one time I showed up on Friday, there was a Vega player, but I’ve never seen a non srk person show up to a session sides then. It’d have been cool to meet some of your regular street fighter players on Wednesday. Actually, thinking about it, I played a Ken player once, but after a round, he gave up and refused to play again.

I agree with Warahk on the fact that you can make the pot smaller and be just as attractive. It’s more a matter of getting a small group to come that hopefully attracts larger crowd if a “known” player is in.

Finally, though this doesn’t really matter, I think you missed me for the last wed fight night as I’ve gone 5 times (1 birthday and 4 WNF, one as “bambooboy”).

For will, first off, I would like to start with my understanding that my say has no grounds in how tomorrow’s tourney is to be handled, as I am one who has not been able to contribute to the growning community at pc lan center for the entire month. However, if any of this insight is helpful, please use it.

None of the srk community is eligible for entry tomorrow abiding by rule 3 stating that ‘At the end of the month 32 people with the highest point totals will get in the tournament.’

However, most or all those who are able to enter by that rule are also ineligible by rule 4, ‘You must attend Wednesday Night Fights to be eligible.’

You are definitely in a paradox of what this list of tourney players will look like(Which I think might be necessary for all if you made that player list available the day before tournament). Warahk makes a valid solution that the top point attaining players who were WNF attendees should be eligible. You, too agree that this tournament was directly geared towards such people.

Those such players must be a part of the tournament if your intended goal for the community is to be a success. And I believe we as the community want to keep that success growing. You had stated,

And I hope you are able to find a good resolution. You have support, and again, it isn’t about the money–your following tornaments need not be $1000–but the audience you are directly hoping to cater to must have your delivery. All my best.

Your way with words is inspiring, George.

IMPORTANT READ PLEASE, WIL

Ok first off… there were two-three times where I asked if I needed to state my name down for the list and they told me “no, you don’t need to”… I’m already missing 2 points… I made 5 WNFs and organized a gathering together with Robb for a birthday for someone. So YOU NEED TO CREATE A BETTER SYSTEM… It’s so unorganized… and you are almost NEVER there when people show up for WNF… you waltz in at 11PMish where most people have already left.

Second off, you clearly stated that “YOU MUST ATTEND WNF TO BE ELIGIBLE” and I have never seen any of your local customers show up to WNF… EVER… not once (95% of them). So right now, all of them are ineligible according to YOUR OWN RULES.

Now I understand, yes, you must run a business, yes, what you’re doing for the community is good and your local customers help “pay the rent” yet as a business man, you need to stick to what you say because that is what creates credibility in the community. You need to keep the integrity of your business by sticking by your words. If you say that none of the WNF players were eligible yet the rule states the person must attend at least once to a WNF event to eligible… you will lose every bit of credibility you had to begin with and more. I’m going to call you out on this… as a person and a business owner. If you want to lose credibility amongst the SRK community by going against your OWN words… then I’ll be damned if you think any more SRK members will ever stop at your LAN Center. I, for I, will never come back if this is the case and I know many more who won’t ever come back if you were to lose your credibility. I don’t even care that the pot is $1,000. It’s the principle, its your word, and its the integrity.

This really frustrates me because someone who said that his tournament and point system was going to run like this but then at the end of the month, he omits is OPENING POST and STATED RULES. Think about if you were one of us, and the owner flip the script on us last minute. That’s just plain messed up and I’m outraged that NONE of the WNF players were eligible. If no one is going to speak out because they are afraid, then I will. I stand as a figure in the community as a tournament/gathering organizer because when I organize things and set certain rules, I stick to them because I know that is what creates credibility, integrity, and respect. I’ve talked to everyone that posted in this thread since your last post Wil and all of them are really disappointed on the way you are doing things right now.

If you really want to be fair and compromise and still look good in this community, I suggest you do AT LEAST this: top 16 point totals from WNF attendees (Players who have 3 points or more), and top 16 point totals from your local customers which would equal the 32 eligible tournament entrants. That is actually my best suggestion and the best solution to all of this. *PLUS, you need to update your point totals… because its all wrong, I know who shows up to these events and I know who’s missing points as a Tournament Organizer and someone who reaches out to the people in the community at every event. I notice each person who is there and know their handles. *

To be honest with you, if you were to clearly state… “just attending makes you eligible” then there would be no arguments here… but Rule 4, i repeat, clearly states ‘You must attend Wednesday Night Fights to be eligible.’ and this is where the problem lies. If you go back on your word, I have to say, I will lose all respect for you and others I guarantee will feel the same, you will lose credibility, and you will have slim to none SRK members ever coming out to this again. I speak strongly about this because I feel strongly and I really really hate it when people go back on their word and definitely on an important rule such as you stated since opening post. Even if you made the pot pay out $5 to 1st place… I will still be arguing this.

So Wil, honestly, I hope you figure this out so everything seems fair. I didn’t try to make it out 7 times and attend 6 WNFs just to be shot down. I don’t even care about the prize money. I wanted competition and the reason why most of us only attend WNF is FOR THE COMPETITION and the TRAINING. I really hope and I’m asking you to please make the right decision both in the financial aspect and credibility standpoint and see that my compromise is the most fair in every aspect.

*Btw, you NEED to update your point totals because those are the same totals from two-three weeks ago… I kept up with most of the WNF attendees points and you can trust me… I KEPT UP. Just ask Wakasashe or anyone who knows me… I’m good on my word.

If there were 7 WNF sessions at PC Arena, and I went there twice on my own time (Dan can confirm this) I technically have 9. I’ve been to every WNF since the second week at D&B… Just saying.
